TeamRetro is one of my best examples of good software!
- It is easy to learn and easy to use. Even the least IT-savvy participants can handle the tool very well right from the beginning due to its intuitive and smooth interface. Also, the sign-on (if required) is a simple one-two clicks procedure.
- As a result, the "tool" does not dominate the conversation and does what it supposed to do: TeamRetro supports our participants in focusing on their ideas, thoughts, improvement actions.
- The well-defined flow structure (brainstorming, grouping, voting, etc.) might be originally seen as a limiting factor. Practically, however, it covers most of the discussion needs, especially taking into consideration multiple configuration parameters available to the moderator in each phase. One can also jump back and forth, so the structure is in fact quite flexible. You can get a very good impression of the tool by trying the "bot" demo on their site.
- Health Checks (surveys) supplement the Retrospectives (boards) and help to collect quantitative feedback from the teams. For example, it helped us to implement the regular Happiness Index (originally done with Excel) and also to enrich the formats of retrospectives.
- The TeamRetro team is very supportive and eager to help, be it a technical or organizational request. I am quite amazed by the frequent deployment of new "tasty" features that constantly enhance the functionality of the tool. The user voice forum is a great place to provide feedback and help co-improving TeamRetro. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not really a "dislike" but rather a wish to extend the toolbox with further types of phases. For example, a whiteboard-like canvas where cards or columns can be custom arranged (e.g., in quadrants); or the phase where the cards are rotated among participants (e.g., brainwriting).
It would also be nice to highlight/filter the cards based on criteria like the author or color etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have now been using TeamRetro for three years and have recommended it to multiple colleagues and clients. Comparing to other retrospective tools I've used, TeamRetro has many advantages.
TeamRetro is designed with a remote-first mindset i.e. it is built with asynchronous communication in mind. However it perfectly supports real-time communication and is very enjoyable to use as it shows the movements, additions, and interactions in real time.
I love that TeamRetro does not unnecessarily integrate with video conferencing tools and that there is no need to screen share in order to use this tool. This is a remote-first design that most other tools have completely overlooked and therefore either integrate with video tools or require someone to share their screen in order for collaboration to take place.
The design of the workflow and settings are intuitive and simple. The timer has a large range allowing for hours or days to be allocated to each step (perfect for teams that are in different timezones). The discussion and action taking functions are brilliant in terms of design and implementation and in particular allowing anyone to take notes and add actions.
And let's not forget some of the important factors that most other tools have overlooked:
- Team Health Check as part of the retrospective tool.
- TeamRetro is serious about protecting users' privacy.
- TeamRetro recognizes that retrospectives are not only for development teams and therefore does not require work email for account creation and has templates that can be used in any team (marketing, sales, nurses, bank clerks, volunteer group, etc)
- TeamRetro provides the option to host all data of a client on servers in the EU which is a unique plus point.
Overall, I'm very impressed with TeamRetro and so are all my team members and my clients to whom I have recommended this tool. TeamRetro is the best retrospective tool I've used for remote teams.
And to add to that, the communication with various people in the company has always been humane, caring and very attentive to nurturing relationships with customers and partners. The way TeamRetro is built as a tool is most definitely a reflection of how it is run as a business: ethically and human-centric. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
This tool has satisfied the needs of every team I've used it with. It provides a great experience for the facilitator and the participant. What's to dislike? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy to use templates that our remote team can just click on and start on our retrospectives. The UX and UI of TeamRetro makes remote teams able to focus on the discussion rather than the systems or processes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Looking forward to more templates to be released so that we can use more and more to run even more fun and effective retrospectives. We believe this is coming before the end of the year! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I was blown away by TeamRetro the first time i used it. It was super user friendly and intuitive that by the end of our first meeting, I felt like an expert user. TeamRetro takes all the hassle out of preparing for and conducting the retrospective. I no longer need to worry about the administrative or logistics things like setting up projectors, having stick tapes handy, appointing a scribe to document discussion and action. I can pay full attention on my facilitation and it had worked wonders. Our team has never worked better together and ideation and productivity has increased beyond all expecations Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Seriously there is nothing to dislike. Its best among all retrospective tools I have tried so far. Perhaps if they give better discounts for larger team licences, that would be a greater inducement for more people to use the tool Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
That the cards are hidden if you want to. Our team members like it not to be influenced by reading the cards of others.
The trainings TeamRetro others are great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes the UX is not intuitive. Especially in the discussion phase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's genuinely enjoyable to use. Retros flow smoothly, interactivity is shown in real time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I can't think of anything really. It would be nice if it included some simple icebreaker games. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
TeamRetro is great for facilitating and participating in brainstorms with my teammates, especially if everyone is working remotely. We're able to throw all of our ideas under different topics, comment/expand on each others' thoughts, then vote on our favorites. The ability for multiple topics was a helpful way to put up guardrails and guide the discussion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It would be nice if every idea each person submitted was automatically grouped or sorted so that it would be easier to follow along while someone is presenting/discussing their ideas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that everyone even remotely can fill it out. They have a lot of different retro options depending on your team. We use the "what went well / what could have gone better / focuses" method and there's a bit of editing you have to do on the columns, but it's pretty easy. Plus you create a new retrospective each time, so each retrospective is saved if you ever want to go back to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish there was a better process to automatically sort responses based on the content. It's a little hard to do at the moment, especially if there's a lot of feedback. Also, some of the edit features aren't as intuitive as I would like. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Super east to collaborate in team meetings. We've used post-its, Asana, and others to conduct retrospectives and brainstorms. TeamRetro is especially helpful with a remote team who can't all be in the same room. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish the tool could run in the same window as Zoom, or include a video conferencing tool as well to help avoid needing to bounce between the two windows. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My team was doing a retro with pens and post-it notes for a long time, which made it difficult for anybody calling in to participate (it was also kind of wasteful, honestly.) Since we've been using this tool, it's become very easy for everybody to participate easily, and we're killing fewer post-it trees. Plus, it's really intuitive and easy to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It would be cool if the tool automatically grouped similar answers together, but it's not a deal-breaker. This has really changed how we do best/worst as a team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My favorite thing about TeamRetro is that you can do it anonymously. People can share how they truly feel about how things went without having to be public. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't like that when it's anonymous you don't get to choose the animal you are. I ended up being Anon Owl today and it would have been fun to be able to pick your animal Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
TeamRetro allows for our team to gather all of our opinions on business processes in between our 'sprints'. This allows for everyone to bring feedback to what our focuses could/should be. I really like how you can customize what the fields are for the team to go off of, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If you are just a user, you at times can not see who specifically has that feedback/retrospective on business decisions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
