Users connect a data source (Airtable, Google Sheets, a SQL database, a CSV file, or the REST API) and bind it to a template built in Google Docs or Google Slides. The platform populates the template and outputs Google Docs, Google Slides, or PDF files, preserving the original design. The platform supports repeating tables and line items, conditional logic, dynamic image placeholders, and filtered data subsets. Documents can be generated on demand, on a schedule, or via API and webhook, enabling integration with workflow tools such as n8n, Make, and Zapier. Output can be delivered by webhook on completion. SourceToDocs is used for recurring document workflows including client reports, proposals, quotes, certificates, investor updates, and event programs. Adding a new document template is very intuitive, especially since it builds on our existing templates (Docs and Slides). I also appreciate that the API is available even on the low-priced package. We use it a lot in our automations, and it’s extremely convenient. Overall, it basically just works. **What do you dislike about SourceToDocs?** Right now there's no docx support. So we had to move some of the templates to Google Docs. Not a big deal for us since we're mostly using Google products, but for MS teams might be worth knowing. **What problems is SourceToDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** Document automation is one of the most common requests we get from our clients - proposals, invoices, complex documents like event programs. We use SourceToDocs for all of that. I haven't found another tool that supports both - Slides and Docs. Its either one or another, and we needed both for different clients. ### 2. I built the template in Google Slides the way I’d normally build it, dropped in the merge fields, pointed it at our data, and it just came out looking right. That’s the part I care about. We tried a couple of other tools and either the branding got mangled or we ended up with something that looked like a generic export. The API is the reason we stuck with it. Most of our client reporting runs through n8n. We trigger the workflow, S2D generates the PDF, and it goes straight out to the client. Nobody on my team touches it. Before this we had someone spending a day and a half a month rebuilding the same deck. Docs and Slides in one tool matters more than I expected. Half our deliverables are reports and half are decks. **What do you dislike about SourceToDocs?** Connector list is short right now. We’re on Airtable so it’s fine for us, but if you live in other system like notion - you might not find a native connector yet. The API covers it if you’re willing to build the middle step, but not everyone on my team can do that. Also no PowerPoint output yet. Some clients want the editable file, not just a PDF. **What problems is SourceToDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** Monthly client reporting. We run SEO for a bunch of accounts and every one of them gets a branded report. It used to be a manual rebuild every cycle, which meant it ate a day or two and there was always a typo somewhere. Now it’s a template plus a data source, and the reports go out on schedule. Same for proposals and audit deliverables.
