As a digital analyst, I rely heavily on Similarweb to conduct benchmark analyses of market performance and competitive positioning. Since gaining access to the App Intelligence module, my ability to evaluate competitors has improved significantly, especially in environments where mobile app usage dominates. Similarweb has long been a useful tool for web benchmarking, but the App Intelligence capability fills a critical gap. It provides a detailed view of competitors’ app volume, user engagement, and overall performance. This additional layer of visibility enables more complete and accurate competitive assessments. In several industries, app traffic represents more than 80% of total digital activity. Without insight into the app ecosystem, any competitive analysis remains incomplete and potentially misleading. App Intelligence allows analysts to capture the full digital picture, ensuring that strategic decisions are based on comprehensive data rather than partial web-only metrics. From a usability and functionality standpoint, the App Intelligence module still feels less mature than the Web Intelligence section. Features such as dashboards and competitive comparison tools are more limited, which makes in-depth analysis less flexible than in the web environment.

Additionally, the data is not as deep or comprehensive. There are fewer available metrics, fewer analytical sections, and limited visibility into in-app behavior, which can restrict advanced performance analysis. What really sets 42matters apart is their remarkable precision in data and their thorough coverage. Their regular file dumps, especially for iOS, Android, and CTV app-ads.txt, offer invaluable insights that are absolutely essential for our AdTech operations. Plus, the localized app metadata they provide has greatly improved our reporting across mobile and CTV platforms. Although there are many positives to highlight about 42matters, we did encounter a bit of a learning curve with their platform during the initial setup and navigation. Managing the wealth of data they provide, while advantageous, did require some adjustment on our end to fully integrate. Additionally, we noticed that the app-ads.txt file sometimes lacked the latest updates for certain apps. However, the responsive customer support team was incredibly helpful throughout the process. What do you like best about Similarweb App Intelligence (Previously 42Matters)?

42matters provided the missing piece for our ad platform. We needed to simplify mobile and CTV app identification on our omni-channel DSP. They gave us programmatic access to iOS, Android, and CTV appIDs, which we then used to compile all-inclusive app profiles that make it easier to build campaigns on our platform and understand their value. In essence, 42matters enabled us to take an app, collect its various iOS / Android / Roku / etc. offerings, and package them up into unified entities.

In the future, we’ll probably use 42matters’ metadata solutions to expand these app profiles and make our platform even more user friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My favorite part about 42matters is that they solved exactly what we needed them to solve. Our use case was very narrow—we needed to consolidate different app store listings for the same apps into unified entities on our media buying platform to streamline buying and reporting. 42matters gave us a way to automate this using appIDs and we were able to deploy it really quickly. 42matters provides our commercial teams with insights about both mobile apps and SDKs, and we are all using it almost every day. It was easy to use and implement from the start, and the explorer's UI is user friendly. Our sales team can create lists for outbound campaigns, and also review the app details of inbound leads to prepare for calls. Our marketing team can analyze both the Android and iOS appstore markets to obtain valuable market data, and improve our ICP defintions over time.
