# What's the merchant of record software with the best reviews from founders and small software companies?

Going through merchant of record reviews with that lens, I'll be upfront that only three products here actually have the founder-specific review depth to back up a real answer:

Freemius: Removes global VAT and tax compliance as an ongoing mental load for solo founders, with hands-on, personal support that walks new sellers through configuration rather than leaving them to figure it out alone. Fair, scaling pricing and a founder-accessible team come up repeatedly as reasons small teams stick with it.

Paddle: Foreign currency and international tax handling are fully automated, letting developers stop thinking about cross-border compliance entirely. Product feedback gets a genuinely responsive hearing, with UI improvements traced directly back to user suggestions.

Xsolla: Purpose-built for gaming, handling regional tax rules, compliance, and fraud prevention across dozens of local payment methods, which makes launching in multiple countries at once far less operationally heavy for smaller studios.

For anyone running a small software company specifically, which of these reduced your own admin time the most in the first few months? And did the support quality hold up once you were past the initial onboarding period?

For a small software company, I think the useful measure is how much operational work genuinely disappears after switching to an MoR. Tax handling gets the attention, but refunds, chargebacks, failed payments, invoices, and support can still pull a founder back into billing. Which of these actually reduced the number of payment-related tasks the founder had to touch month to month?
