## ShareGate Reviews
 ### 1. ShareGate, the must have tool for migration and library maintenance of O65 SharePoint

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jaime S. | IT Project Manager / SharePoint Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

We first started using Share Gate to migrate files from file shares and SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint Online (O365). The transition from on-premise to online was smooth and quick. Being able to transfer files directly from a file share into SharePoint Online also made the process feel very seamless. On top of that, the features that scan for orphan records or orphan users for security purposes are quite good and helpful.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

It wouldn’t be fair to say that I dislike it. We’ve run into some performance issues, but they aren’t really controlled by Sharepoint and seem to come from our current environment. Overall, the performance I’ve had to deal with has been acceptable.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Right now, maintenance is where Sharegate provides the best solution for us. We have a number of countries with large SharePoint libraries, and they prefer to set these up as annual lists or document library types. Over the course of the year, there may be added columns or other changes to the library structure. Sharegate lets us copy the structure without bringing over the data, which essentially allows us to create an annual template based on the previous year.

 ### 2. Fast, Hassle-Free Cloud Migration with ShareGate

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher G. | Director of Information Technology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

We had a project where we needed to move a large amount of data to the cloud, and at first it felt overwhelming—I honestly didn’t know where to start. Then I found ShareGate and was impressed by how easy it was to get up and running. Setting up the replication jobs was straightforward, and it was just as simple to monitor each job throughout the process.

I also appreciated that jobs could be scheduled and that staff could be alerted ahead of time when their files were going to be migrated. The speed and overall performance of the migration were amazing. Everything moved over without any issues, and I couldn’t be happier to decommission my on-prem file server thanks to ShareGate.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Since I purchased ShareGate for a specific project and it performed exactly as I expected, I don’t have anything negative to say about the software itself. I did, however, run into concerns later on with the recurring costs. ShareGate also had an additional piece of software called Apricot that allowed me to monitor my Teams and external shares. Over time, that was separated from the original setup and sold as a standalone product at an additional cost. This increased the overall financial commitment, and eventually I had to stop using it due to competing priorities and budget constraints.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I used ShareGate, it helped tremendously with migrating files between systems and accounts. It also made it easier for me to keep track of external shares that may have expired or were no longer needed.

 ### 3. Intuitive Migrations and Robust Auditing Reports—No Feature Paywall

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

ShareGate provides a basic, intuitive interface for handling fairly complex content migration and security auditing tasks. The migration process itself is straightforward. Performance has varied quite a bit at times, but in most cases we’ve attributed that to factors outside of ShareGate rather than the tool itself. It also includes a robust set of reports that makes auditing and security management a lower-friction process overall. From a pricing standpoint, we appreciate the lack of a feature paywall; even though there are more ShareGate offerings now, usage isn’t metered.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Overall, there’s very little to dislike. The issues we’ve run into have been tied to feature-set changes in the SharePoint / 365 platform itself, rather than anything specific to ShareGate. Support has fallen short in only a couple of instances depending on the issue, but otherwise it has been great.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A single, one-stop shop for all of our SharePoint migration and reporting needs. Depending on the type of content we’re migrating, we can rely on ShareGate as the common platform to handle those needs across Microsoft 365.

 ### 4. Effortless Site Migration, Needs Better Navigation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Randy Z. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I used ShareGate for moving and archiving about 600 SharePoint sites and it made it easy to move the site contents without having to give myself permissions to each one. It really saved me a lot of time because otherwise, I would have had to manually navigate to the desired location and relocate the data by hand. The software just made it really easy to move the site contents with little fuss. Also, the initial setup was fairly straightforward.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I find it difficult because there isn't a search function for the sites, requiring me to scroll through the source and destination locations each time. When I have 750 sites, it's a lot of scrolling. I always wanted the destination to be the same, but I had to scroll and select that each time as well.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate made it easy to move site contents without needing permissions for each site, saving me a lot of time from manually navigating and relocating data.

 ### 5. Audits and backups in Microsoft 365 made easier and more practical with Sharegate

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafael A. | Analyst II, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

The ability to perform complete management of teams, SharePoint sites, and backups is a major advantage. As we have many SharePoint sites, ShareGate helps us a lot in managing the teams and sites, allowing us to identify which teams are unused and which are exceeding storage, so we can make decisions based on the information provided by ShareGate. The integration with Microsoft is flawless, bringing all the teams with their files on the SharePoint site very easily.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Depending on the volume of data on a SharePoint site, Sharegate may fail to perform the backup, and in that case, it becomes necessary to do a manual migration. Additionally, the filter in Sharegate Desktop for executing the backup is not very efficient, because we need to scroll several times until we find the desired site. Finally, the price could be a bit lower.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ease of restoring a Teams team, with all files, chats, and members, is very good. With just a few clicks, we can bring back an archived team, when available, in a few minutes.

 ### 6. Never want to live without SharePoint & Teams Migrations, Governance, and Reporting

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darlene S. | Lead Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Besides being my go-to application for performing migrations, it’s also an essential tool for the administration and governance of SharePoint and Teams. I really appreciate the reporting and exporting features, which make it easier to manage and share the information I need.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I’d like to be able to refine the Permissions Matrix reports more easily by importing a CSV of the specific sites I want to report on. This would be a great enhancement when I need to choose a subset of sites from thousands, instead of having to select each site manually.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides discovery information when preparing for migrations and delivers critical details to support modernization efforts. ShareGate Protect also offers additional insights for governance. A key benefit of both tools is their actionable reporting, which helps admins quickly identify and resolve issues without needing to take extensive manual steps or write PowerShell scripts to automate the fixes.

 ### 7. Simplifies Migration with Ease and Precision

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phillip C. | IS Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I like ShareGate's simplistic yet powerful interface that allows me to do things logically, like migrating from one site to another or from one library to another. The granularity it offers is awesome. I find the ease of use to be one of the best features. It makes management straightforward, allowing admins to make things happen within our environment. Additionally, compared to other tools, the initial setup was easy and straightforward. The simpler, the better.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Sometimes, being able to halt certain processes isn't as straightforward as I'd like. For instance, when migrating something, there's generally a way to stop the migration, but there are instances where it doesn't allow you to do so, making it hard to know when and how to stop things.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ShareGate for migrations from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 and to SharePoint Online. It also helps us migrate between tenants and has become a valuable tool for simplifying admin tasks like site management and exchange migrations.

 ### 8. ShareGate Makes Complex SharePoint & Microsoft 365 Migrations Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karthick R. | IT ADMIN, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

What I like best about ShareGate is its ability to simplify complex migrations while still offering powerful functionality. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, which makes it accessible even for users who are not deeply technical. At the same time, it provides robust features such as reliable data migration with full support for permissions and metadata, making it highly effective for enterprise environments.
Another standout aspect is its automation capability through PowerShell, which helps streamline repetitive tasks and improves efficiency. Additionally, the governance and reporting features are very useful for maintaining a well-organized and compliant environment.
Overall, ShareGate delivers an excellent balance between ease of use and advanced capabilities, making it a dependable tool for SharePoint and Microsoft 365 management.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

One of the main drawbacks of ShareGate is its pricing, which can be relatively high, especially for smaller organizations or teams with limited budgets. The licensing model may feel restrictive if you only need specific features rather than the full suite.
Additionally, while the tool is generally user-friendly, advanced configurations and troubleshooting can sometimes require deeper technical knowledge, particularly when dealing with complex environments or large-scale migrations.
Another area for improvement is performance during very large migrations, where operations can occasionally slow down or require careful planning to avoid interruptions.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate solves the challenge of complex and time-consuming SharePoint and Microsoft 365 migrations and management. Without a tool like ShareGate, tasks such as moving large volumes of data, preserving permissions, and restructuring environments can be highly manual, error-prone, and resource-intensive.
It benefits me by significantly reducing the effort and risk involved in migrations. The tool automates data transfer while maintaining data integrity, metadata, and permissions, which saves a considerable amount of time and avoids potential issues. The ability to perform incremental migrations also ensures smooth transitions without duplication or data loss.

 ### 9. I have used ShareGate for some time now and it never fails to disappoint

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jamie V. | Senior Sharepoint Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I’ve been really impressed with ShareGate, especially how much time it saves when working in SharePoint environments. The interface is intuitive, and it makes tasks like migrations, permissions management, and site restructuring much easier than doing everything manually.

One thing I really like is how quickly you can get visibility into your environment—whether it’s permissions, content, or structure—and take action right away. The reporting and governance features are also a big plus, especially when trying to keep things clean and organized across multiple sites.

Overall, it’s a reliable and efficient tool that simplifies complex SharePoint work and makes day-to-day administration much smoother.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Overall ShareGate is a magnificent tool. I wish the Powershell interface was a little more intuitive and easier to use, as it could become an extremely powerful and useful timesaving tool.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making migration easier especially when 3rd party tools are involved.

 ### 10. Effortless SharePoint Migrations and Reporting with Great Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George D. | Sr IT Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

It makes moving sites and getting reports about our SharePoint environment easy. Even as a Site Collection admin across numerous sites in our enterprise, it is useful daily. The performance is great and I like that I can tweak the settings based on the performance of our tenant/account.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Sometimes we get errors regardless of how conservative we are during migrations, but overall few issues. It mostly just works as expected.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moving documents and sites structures between different locations has been very helpful for our internal customers. It also helps greatly during acquisitions when we need to incorporate new site collections into our existing tenant.

 ### 11. Seamless Migrations with Sharegate’s Intuitive Interface and Fast Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simon Kaiser I. | IT-supportspecialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

The interface and integrations of Sharegate make it easy to migrate and/or copy everything. I installed it on a server, and the software’s performance was immaculate and flawless. Price-wise, it was reasonable, especially considering it can handle almost everything needed for the migration. Support and correspondence from the Sharegate team were quick and efficient, and they were always ready to assist.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Sometimes, trying to take everything in all at once made it feel like I was missing a few things. Breaking it down into smaller bites, though, solved that issue.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrations and migrations of new companies into ours.

 ### 12. Invaluable tool for migration, with some caveats

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam B. | Senior Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2023

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Can save time when migrating from one SharePoint site to another, taking with it permissions and other settings. The audit feature is helpful to prepare for a migration and prevent having to redo it.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

The activation/deactivation process of licensing is difficult when you're on a secure setup and need to do it offline. Especially when something wrong happens during the process and you get stuck with an app you can't use because the licensing process broke. Support could not help me and just closed my case without resolution. Still in the process of fixing it.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Discovering what needs to be migrated, what issues need to be resolved before migration, useful reports. Saves a lot of manual work and time.

**Official Response from Eva Bloudoff:**

> Thank you for the honest feedback, Sam. Your organization has made specific security requests to disable some connected features, and we're sorry that this has created some frustration. We would love to collaborate on how to handle this in high-security environments, and a member of our team will reach out shortly.

 ### 13. Efficient Data Migration with Easy Setup

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I use ShareGate to migrate data from the cloud back on-premise and to monitor SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive. I find it easy to use and it provides visibility of data that Microsoft does not give. It saves my time as it automates what would otherwise have to be done manually. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

To be honest, I preferred the previous version as I seemed to have more visibility in the areas I was interested in. Although the new version gives me more information, it's really down to me getting used to it and using it. It was easier to send out reviews and see/change who the owners were, but this data is now available just in different areas. Again, it's about me getting used to it more than the product itself.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ShareGate to migrate data and monitor SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive, which saves me time by preventing manual file transfers. It's easy to use and offers data visibility that Microsoft lacks.

 ### 14. Makes O365 Management and Site Migrations Much Easier

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abby T. | Global Office 365 Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

It makes managing our O365 environment a much easier task. I also frequently use this tool for site migrations

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I wish it had greater capabilities. I wish I could manage Team and channel storage capacity with ShareGate. The permissions matrix report can be hard to read.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A lot of colleagues are creating their own HTML pages and wanting to place them on sharepoint. I am able to use ShareGate to easily upload those files.

 ### 15. Easy to Use, with Helpful Webinars and Training

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Easy to use and very helpful webinars and trainings from the team.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

They have changed their pricing model for ShareGate protect that makes it impossible for us to continue using it as a small nonprofit. It feels unfair that we need to pay per tenant user when only one or two IT professionals will actually be logging into the platform. You should instead charge a subscription per ShareGate account. This would make more sense and seem less like you are trying to take advantage of your customers.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Migration problems currently. In the past we used it as a way to monitor and take action on orphaned/inactive teams and external sharing.

 ### 16. Flexible Migration Options & Great Value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rishikesh R. | Senior Web Systems Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I like ShareGate because of the customized options for migrations. Having the ability to deal with unresolved group assignments, mapping metadata accordingly, and using customized views makes it very valuable to me. I also appreciate that ShareGate offers more unlimited options compared to AvePoint, which was a part of why we switched. Additionally, the cost associated with ShareGate is better suited for us.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I think permissions migrations could use more options. It would be helpful to have a special interface for permissions migrations within SharePoint Online sites or Teams.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ShareGate for legacy migrations to the cloud, benefiting from customized options and seamless data migration within the cloud, resolving unresolved group assignments, and mapping metadata efficiently.

 ### 17. Seamless SharePoint Migrations to the Cloud

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Camilo sbat A. | Software Licence Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Seamless migrations, allows you to move entire sites, lists, document libraries, and columns from older on-premises versions directly to SharePoint Online in the cloud.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

During migrations, it does not preserve the original IDs of SharePoint objects, which can break direct links to those items.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It simplifies the transition from SharePoint Server (on-premises) to SharePoint Online, facilitates migrations between different tenants (tenant to tenant), and allows importing data from file servers.

 ### 18. Rich Functionality, Minor Authentication Annoyance

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laurie A. | Infrastructure Support Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I used ShareGate to complete a company-wide migration of on-premises SMB file shares into SharePoint Online. I appreciate its rich functionality, which allowed me to split a large, monolithic site into smaller sites. The initial setup was very easy, and it moves large amounts of data between sites reliably while maintaining version history and metadata and providing reporting.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I kept having to reauthenticate. It would be much better if it stopped requiring the need to reauthenticate.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used ShareGate to migrate SMB file shares to SharePoint and to split a large site into smaller ones, handling data moves while maintaining version history and metadata.

 ### 19. Easy for audits and migrations, with preservation of metadata

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clément A. | Lead helpdesk and Head of the computer and telephone network, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Easy to use especially for audits at the request of users, during migrations you can keep the metadata, choose the number of versions, and the rights.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Limitations at the level of 365 groups, multiple connections to accounts during migrations

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows tracking of user activity and especially enables cleaning up SharePoint sites! It also allowed us to migrate our data from network drives to SharePoint.

 ### 20. A Versatile Solution with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonas B. | Service Owner Microsoft 365, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I like the versatility of ShareGate. It's like a Swiss army knife and good for a lot of things, especially in migration and reporting. I also value the custom reporting feature. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I don't like that multi-site migration and OneDrive bulk jobs can't run serialized using the GUI. Setting up batch-jobs that work with a multi-server load balancing system would be better, instead of having isolated servers that don't communicate. They also seem to have lost momentum by focusing on Exchange and Entra migration rather than making SharePoint migration best in class. And not including Apricot in the 5-user license package is a no-go.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ShareGate for migration and reporting. It's versatile, like a Swiss Army knife, and its custom reporting is valuable.

 ### 21. Easy to Use, Great Support—Made Our File Share to SharePoint Migrations Smooth

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Safety | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Easy of use and overall support. The tool has helped us with numerous migrations from file shares to SharePoint and helped us secure and modernize our organization in the process.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Very little honestly. The tool "just works". We've had a few small issues with licensing but were able to get them corrected easily. Early on there was a problem where it would lose permission on a file share if the server was rebooted but that hasn't been an issue in a while.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it to manage migrations from legacy file shares due to acquisitions into our managed SharePoint environment. This removes our needs for VPN connectivity and makes the experience much better for our customers and provides a much easier support experience for our engineers.

 ### 22. Efficient Migration, Intuitive Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julien F. | Ingénieur systèmes, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I love the ShareGate interface, it's very easy to use. Even an untrained person can use it, and I find it quite effective. I find tenant migration with ShareGate efficient, whether it's from on-prem elements to the cloud or for data migration in general. For me, ShareGate is quite performant, especially after working on a migration of nearly 40 terabytes on-prem to Office 365 without limitations from ShareGate.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Today, it is a missing feature in ShareGate to allow the migration of workstations.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate allows me to migrate data efficiently to the destination tenant. The interface is easy to use, even for the untrained. The migration of large volumes of data, such as 40 terabytes to 365, went well, demonstrating ShareGate's performance.

 ### 23. Effortless Data Migration with ShareGate

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I find the GUI of ShareGate very easy to use and self-explanatory. It's simple to move high volumes of data in the background with great ease, ensuring the data has been successfully transferred. The errors displayed help quickly identify any anomalies and correct them as soon as possible. Also, the initial setup of ShareGate was very easy.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I haven't found anything that doesn't work well with ShareGate so far. The only thing is that single sign-on would be a little more helpful, especially if the sign-ins could be used for both the source and the target.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ShareGate to move data across Microsoft platforms like SharePoint and OneDrive efficiently, even for large projects. The easy-to-use GUI ensures high volumes of data transfer smoothly, while error detection helps correct anomalies quickly.

 ### 24. Easy Data Management Across SharePoint and OneDrive

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amy D. | SharePoint Business Systems Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

ShareGate gives us the ability to manage and move data from SharePoint sites and OneDrive accounts. This helped a lot during the OneDrive cleanup that was needed due to changes made by Microsoft this year. Permissions reports on SharePoint sites helps keep management informed.

Secure and simple to integrate with our tenant. Updates to the server-based tool are regular and do not disrupt use of the system.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Teams management tools that we used to rely on were removed several months ago and have not (yet?) been replaced

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows management of orphaned OneDrive content when employees have left the company. A major OneDrive cleanup project earlier this year was done much more quickly and efficiently using ShareGate. It's used to copy and relocate SharePoint content from our on-premise farm to the online tenant, and to generate detailed permissions reports periodically for stakeholders. In the past, the online ShareGate tool was used to manage externally shared content and orphaned Teams.

 ### 25. Intuitive UI and Clear Reporting Make ShareGate a Must-Have

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert R. | SharePoint Solution Developer, Government Administration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2018

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I find ShareGate's overall UI very intuitive and easy to navigate, which makes my tasks straightforward. I particularly appreciate the reporting on data migration success; it's clear and concise, so I don't have to search around in the UI to find the specific task I'm trying to accomplish. ShareGate also provides a description error and links to ways to resolve issues when certain items don't migrate successfully. The installation instructions are clear, and the upgrade process has been seamless.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

I would like the ability to create SharePoint list migrations without list data (i.e. schema only) without having to select deselect the list data option in the current defaults.

**Recommendations to others considering ShareGate:**

Must have if you are migrating from one version of SharePoint to another piece by piece

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate migrates our SharePoint 2019 List data to SharePoint Online. I find the UI intuitive, and the reporting on data migration success helps resolve issues efficiently.

 ### 26. Best SharePoint migration tool in the business

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tiago D. | Microsoft 365 Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

ShareGate allows us to perform cross-tenant migrations with little effort. Whether the content is in another M365 tenant, a local file share, google drive or an on-premise farm, ShareGate will be able to migrate it and not only migrate it, but do so efficiently without a steep learning curve. For scripted migrations, we have full access to the API via PowerShell. The growing suite of analysis tools give ShareGate a constant bump in value. The Permissions Matrix report in particular is a must-have to understand and plan for the migration of permissions and it can run this on huge sites in a matter of seconds. There is also the option to run a test migration or "what if" which allows us to figure out what may go wrong before we perform the actual migration.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

If you are a highly specialized consultant and you bump into a problem with ShareGate, the support line is there and they will help for sure. However, I personally feel that most of the time spent in support is to explain a problem to an entry-level support agent before it gets escalated to the technical team. This often makes it so that I have to repeat everything and demo the problem again to multiple people. This is an area that ShareGate could definitely improve. There are also a couple of feature requests that the community has asked for again and again, such as the ability to Move (not copy) content, that have yet to be made available (fingers crossed).

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With ShareGate we were able to migrate our legacy SharePoint system to SharePoint Online.
We are also able to migrate rogue content from network drives and google drive seamlessly.
The ability to run permissions matrix reports and the ability to copy the structure of a list or site make it also a powerful tool for business analysis and same-tenant content migration.

 ### 27. Effortless, Reliable Migrations—ShareGate Exceeds Expectations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter B. | Application Support Admin, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

Using ShareGate to migrate our legacy file shares into Microsoft 365 has been an outstanding experience from start to finish. The tool delivers exactly what IT teams need during a complex data migration: simplicity, reliability, and full transparency throughout the process.

ShareGate’s interface is exceptionally intuitive, making it easy to assess source environments, map permissions, and configure migration jobs without the usual headaches often associated with large-scale data moves. Even with nested folder structures and inconsistent legacy permissions, ShareGate handled everything smoothly, preserving metadata and ensuring a clean transition into SharePoint Online and OneDrive.

Performance was consistently strong—migration speeds were impressive, and the built‑in reporting provided clear insights into progress, issues, and post‑migration validation. When unexpected file conflicts or policy issues arose, ShareGate presented actionable recommendations that saved hours of troubleshooting.
Beyond the technical capabilities, the time savings and reduced risk were the biggest wins. What could have been a complicated, multi‑week project became a structured, stress‑free process thanks to ShareGate’s automation options and smart checks.

If you're looking to modernize file storage and move confidently into Microsoft 365, ShareGate is an invaluable tool. It’s reliable, efficient, and built with real‑world migration challenges in mind. Highly recommended.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Im yet to find a downside of this tool, might be good to see further pre-writen report to help better manage 365 sites

Its allowing us to unpick our legacy file file and migrate whats still required

 ### 33. All the tools you need for easy SharePoint migrations and tenant management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Corey M. | Lead Business Systems Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I use ShareGate for SharePoint migrations. It makes it easy to copy content from on-prem to cloud, whether the content is in a SharePoint instance, file shares, or other location. It is particularly great for mapping permissions and metadata. The reposts are useful to identify errors or content that needs additional remediation after copy. Delta copy is super helpful when migrating active sites.
Installing the software is easy, and you can manage your subscription and authorized users through the web interface.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Having to sign in every time you connect to a cloud location via browser authentication. Not sure that this is actually a ShareGate issue, though. It would also be helpful if you didn't need a server extension installed to maintain item IDs during the copy process.
Another pain point is that it's not straightforward to roll back from an update when there are issues. I would like a revert option for updates.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate facilitates our SharePoint migrations from on-prem to cloud, but it also provides the ability to report on many different use case scenarios including stale content, last modified, permissions, and workflow associations. I also use it for bulk metadata updates for list and library items, exporting large document libraries for archiving or system integrations, and for annual permission audits.

 ### 34. Effortless SharePoint Management with Intuitive Tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard S. | Head of Cyber & Infrastructure, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

ShareGate makes managing SharePoint much easier. Its intuitive interface means that very little training is needed to get started. In our organization, we rely on it for tenant audits, reviewing permissions, and migrating content. What used to take us hours can now be completed in just minutes. The reporting tools also provide clear insights into our environment, eliminating the need for PowerShell scripts.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

The licensing model can become expensive if you require several administrators. Additionally, certain features we assumed would be included in the base product are only available in the premium tier. From time to time, updates alter the interface layout, leading to a short period of adjustment.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing SharePoint at scale often leads to blind spots, but ShareGate has helped us eliminate them. We now enjoy clear visibility into permissions, external sharing, and inactive content throughout our tenant. Compliance audits that once required days can now be completed in just a few hours. Our team is able to respond to governance queries with precise data rather than relying on best guesses.

 ### 35. Effortless Cloud Migration and Data Analysis with ShareGate

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aileen G. | System Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I use ShareGate for our cloud transformation for our on-prem file server and personal folder and it's a big help as I don't need to create PowerShell script or do a manual upload of the data. The migration steps are easy although I haven't tried mapping user for example in the meta data. I have also used the application in analyzing data on-prem in preparation to the migration. As this can detect if a folder will exceed the 5000-threshold limit or if the file name is too long.

It's also easy to contact the support since you have launched your AI support as well. It gives the exact information I need.

I am also using the application, to check permission of a SharePoint site and to check if there are legacy security group that was used to grant access to sites.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

What I dislike is sometimes, even though the migration is completed, I can still see that the job is running, and the completion time/date is not yet finalized. I am not sure if the problem is within Sharegate or Microsoft.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely it helps me in my migration from on-prem to cloud and migration of OneDrive from one geo-location to another.
Soon as the ShareGate Protect is promising, it can help me in my project for "Data Sharing Management in OneDrive".
As it can detect files that are over shared as an example.

 ### 36. Simple, Easy, and Straightforward to Use

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

Migrating SharePoint and OneDrive sites has a poor interface, only allowing bulk migration via command line. This is much easier with competitors.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

So far, the theme migration has been good simple and straightforward and the Google integration is very easy and works well.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

We've been using it mainly for tenant to tenant migrations of acquired companies. It's been easy to use and the interface is great.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Although I have workarounds for this, there are still limitations, such as shared channels and the ability to migrate from one tenant to a specific multi geo location.

Being able migrate Teams and SharePoint sites from one tenant to ours.

 ### 45. Effortless Tenant Transfers and SharePoint Site Cloning

 ### 46. Functional Decline, Lacking Support

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jens M.

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I appreciated ShareGate for its permission matrix report, which provided a good overview of permissions on SharePoint sites. I liked being able to archive sites to reduce SharePoint cost and the periodic review feature, which reminded site owners to categorize or archive their sites. Previously, I found features like site templates, site categorization, access reviews, and sharing reviews to be useful in making our SharePoint more manageable.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Their archive functionality is useless. It only retains files, not data in lists so we lost a lot of data. Restoring data from their Archive feature is also completely broken, you have to restore folder by folder. you cannot restore all files from a site. Also, restores to OneDrive fails on large files. And their support staff is not helpful in recovering data although data is a critical asset in any company.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate helps by providing a good overview of permissions on SharePoint sites and allows us to archive sites to reduce costs. It also sends periodic reviews to remind site owners to categorize or archive their sites, which makes our SharePoint more manageable.

 ### 47. ShareGate Migrate: user-friendly for beginners, powerful for experts

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

ShareGate transfer: for any "on-premises" transfer operation to MS365, or for many cloud-to-cloud MS365 operations, Transfer is the best tool. User-friendly enough for a novice, and powerful enough for a guru. We have been using it for over ten years!

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

The licensing model and cost structure are becoming more complex, Protect per user is not affordable for a context like mine.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transfers of lists or libraries, scheduled transfers and reports saving a lot of time, occasional interventions to resolve permission issues, copy any SharePoint or Teams resource (well, except shared channels) to anywhere in MS365...

 ### 48. Effortless Migrations with ShareGate

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2026

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

I really appreciate the ease of use with ShareGate. The interface is very intuitive, and it saves a lot of time. I can just select what I need and start copying right away or schedule it. I also like the availability of reports, which are straightforward to use with the great UI. I just go to the report section, choose what I want, and that's it. The initial setup was very easy too.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Nothing

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ShareGate to migrate files from SharePoint 2016 to SharePoint Online, keeping version history and mapping ownership. It eases moving large numbers of files from network folders.

 ### 49. Effortless Migrations and Outstanding Support with ShareGate

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sunny V. | Director of Technology/Applications, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

We’ve been loyal ShareGate customers for years because the product is intuitive, reliable, and makes migrations effortless. Their customer support is exceptional—responsive and knowledgeable—and the pricing offers great value compared to alternatives.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

The only area for improvement would be providing more in-depth training materials or enhanced video tutorials for a smoother onboarding experience.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate helps us simplify M365 management by addressing key challenges like monitoring external sharing, fixing broken permissions, and streamlining migrations—from on-premises to the cloud and from classic SharePoint to modern sites. It has also enabled us to rearchitect our SharePoint environment for better structure and usability. These capabilities save time, reduce risk, and ensure a smoother transition for our users.

 ### 50. Effortless Migrations and Time-Saving Reports with ShareGate

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2025

**What do you like best about ShareGate?**

ShareGate is incredibly easy to use. The interface is straightforward and simplifies tasks that are usually complex, such as SharePoint and Teams migrations.

The migration process is reliable and smooth. The reporting tools—especially for permissions, cleanup, and pre-migration checks—save a lot of time and help avoid mistakes.

The upsides of using ShareGate include fast, stress-free migrations and helpful cleanup and governance reports that make managing environments much easier. It’s very user-friendly with almost no learning curve, and it consistently saves hours of manual work.

**What do you dislike about ShareGate?**

Some features feel limited when dealing with very large or complex environments. At times, you need to run multiple passes or perform manual checks to ensure everything transferred exactly as expected.

The reporting can be a bit basic in certain areas—especially if you’re looking for deeper analytics or long-term monitoring. It’s great for quick checks, but not always for detailed, ongoing governance.

The downsides of using ShareGate include occasional struggles with very large or highly customised migrations and some limitations in its advanced reporting and analytics. It also requires a desktop app rather than offering a fully cloud-based version, and the licensing cost can be a bit high for smaller teams.

**What problems is ShareGate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ShareGate solves the complexity of migrating and managing SharePoint and Microsoft Teams environments. It streamlines tasks that would normally require a lot of manual effort—like moving sites, fixing permissions, cleaning up outdated content, and reorganising Teams. By automating these processes and providing clear reports it reduces the risk of errors, speeds up migrations, and makes ongoing governance much easier. Overall, it saves time, improves accuracy, and reduces much of the stress of managing Microsoft 365 environments.
