I have not encountered any major issues with ShareGate. The platform is intuitive, reliable, and provides the functionality needed for Microsoft 365 migration projects. While occasional migration warnings can occur due to Microsoft 365 backend processing delays, these are typically external to ShareGate and do not impact the overall effectiveness of the solution. I think ShareGate is the only tool with these kinds of content migration features. Other tools are more complicated or costly, but ShareGate hits the sweet spot. It gives me a nice user experience for moving data between shared drives and SharePoint, SharePoint sites, OneDrive and SharePoint, and MST and SharePoint. I think data migration is its best feature, and restoring permissions in bulk works well. I also like that I can install it on a server so multiple people can use the same machine to do their tasks. I sometimes get blank audit reports, and ShareGate has trouble running audits across our large tenancy, so I have to use PowerShell. The documentation and support aren’t very prompt; getting support takes time, and there aren’t many resources I can find online. Moving content from a shared drive to SharePoint uses a lot of resources and keeps crashing the application, so I have to use Microsoft’s migration tool instead. Upgrading the server infrastructure also takes time. I can’t keep ShareGate running overnight because security policies shut down the server and the tool, so I have to split large migrations into smaller chunks and spend more time on the same task. What I like most about ShareGate is how straightforward it makes Microsoft 365 migrations. We found it can struggle with very large mailboxes or large SharePoint sites with a large amount of items. Mainly for the initial sync. It can make larger migrations a bit harder to plan as we've found it can just look like it's hanging while initially scanning and migrating a mailbox. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

For the most part, it’s very intuitive and accurate. We mainly use it for migrations, although the reports can be useful at times as well. I feel like the reports could be more helpful. We use them a little, but there have been many times when I tried to find a report that I needed but it didn't exist so I had to turn to PowerShell. We first started using Share Gate to migrate files from file shares and SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint Online (O365). The transition from on-premise to online was smooth and quick. Being able to transfer files directly from a file share into SharePoint Online also made the process feel very seamless. It wouldn’t be fair to say that I dislike it. We’ve run into some performance issues, but they aren’t really controlled by Sharepoint and seem to come from our current environment. Overall, the performance I’ve had to deal with has been acceptable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that ShareGate is easy to use and low cost. Its on-premises and cloud permission mapping makes file migration much easier, and its pre-migration check for on-premises file shares fixes problems before migration. We had a project where we needed to move a large amount of data to the cloud, and at first it felt overwhelming—I honestly didn’t know where to start. Then I found ShareGate and was impressed by how easy it was to get up and running. Setting up the replication jobs was straightforward, and it was just as simple to monitor each job throughout the process.

I also appreciated that jobs could be scheduled and that staff could be alerted ahead of time when their files were going to be migrated. The speed and overall performance of the migration were amazing. Everything moved over without any issues, and I couldn’t be happier to decommission my on-prem file server thanks to ShareGate. Since I purchased ShareGate for a specific project and it performed exactly as I expected, I don’t have anything negative to say about the software itself. I did, however, run into concerns later on with the recurring costs. ShareGate also had an additional piece of software called Apricot that allowed me to monitor my Teams and external shares. Over time, that was separated from the original setup and sold as a standalone product at an additional cost.
