I like ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management's ability to be integrated and used across modules. It's valuable because if we have purchased multiple products, it works well as a coherent connection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are a lot of bugs in the workspace, and the tables have a lot of information which we are unable to replicate in the workspaces due to limitations and constraints. The initial setup was a bit difficult as we went for a migration of data from lower instances, and there was no set rules for it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What makes ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM)—formerly known as ITBM—stand out is how it fundamentally bridges the gap between high-level business strategy and ground-level technical execution. Instead of treating project management, budgeting, and team workflows as disconnected silos, it pulls them into a single ecosystem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SPM is not a "plug-and-play" tool. Setting it up to reflect your organization's actual governance, demand scoring models, and resource pools requires massive upfront planning. If your internal processes aren't completely mature before you start configuring the platform, you end up automating a broken process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It feels like a school binder organizer, keeping projects and events neatly in one place so everyone can stay informed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are too many areas that our end users keep asking us to modify, and we end up having to make constant changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I appreciate how ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management allows me to manage and organize everything effectively. The way it supports classifying the service catalog with certain needed fields and assigning ownership like administrators and capability owners helps streamline the organization process. Even though I wasn't there at the beginning, once I learned, the setup was easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would like certain fields to be available in ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management. Specifically, there should be ownership fields for the people administrating and the owners of each service, as the owners of services won't administrate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management places strategy and planning in one location and connects it with execution. I appreciate the single ecosystem, which makes it easy to manage and report, allowing me to roll down strategy execution and roll up reporting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The cost is a downside; it's expensive, and not everything supported by the software is being used by the business. The initial setup took some time, with challenges in defining workflows to meet the company's needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the financial planning tools in ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management, particularly for overall budget and yearly planning. It's easy to maintain and serves as one common place, which makes it practical for strategizing forecasts. The initial setup was very easy, which is a big plus. I think the financial planning aspect could be improved, especially concerning budget planning and yearly budgeting. I feel like the statistics and insights aren't quite where they need to be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I implemented ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management to improve efficiency in project planning, optimize resources, and increase agility for stronger overall project performance. In my experience, it works very well for both roadmap planning and resource planning, and it also supports faster product releases. Features such as portfolio planning, which help align work across the company, are especially valuable for large organizations with multi-department hierarchies. These capabilities are key for setting goals, building roadmaps, and evaluating portfolio progress over time. I also found the initial setup straightforward, thanks to the out-of-the-box ServiceNow plugins. The user interface is easy to access through the strategic planning workspace, which is very helpful for platform owners and other functional leads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Now Assist for SPM still feels very basic from a generative standpoint, mainly summarizing projects and automatically creating demands. I think it could be embedded into other key SPM areas to further reduce manual work and make the overall experience more efficient. ServiceNow should bring more agentic AI capabilities to strengthen and improve SPM features. There also seem to be limited OOB integration opportunities since SPM is fairly unique, but it would still be helpful if it could integrate better with ServiceNow spokes. What stands out most about ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management is how it forces organisations to connect high-level strategy to the actual work being funded and delivered, rather than letting projects drift based on politics or noise. It gives leadership a clear, data-driven view of priorities, costs, risks, and outcomes in one place, which makes it far easier to justify decisions, cut low-value initiatives, and redirect resources to what genuinely supports business goals. Instead of juggling spreadsheets and slide decks, it creates a structured, transparent way to plan, track, and adjust investments so strategy stops being a slogan and starts shaping real execution. What tends to frustrate people about ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management is that it’s powerful but heavy — you don’t just switch it on and magically get value. It requires strong governance, clean data, and disciplined processes, otherwise it turns into an expensive reporting tool that nobody trusts. The setup can be complex, the terminology isn’t always intuitive for non-PMO users, and if leadership isn’t committed to actually using the insights, teams end up feeding the system without seeing real decisions change. In short, it works well when the organisation is mature and aligned, but in messy environments it can feel like overkill and extra admin rather than a strategic enabler.
