"An alternative to traditional RDBM"
What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

It has a great performance, specially to handle big volumes of data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

Its query language is not the standard SQL, so a learning curve is necessary. Fewer tools that interact with it, and also less documentation is a concern. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great open source DB"
What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

I like that the DB is free to use and distribute, however there are tons of resources available for the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

The only thing i can think of that i currently dislike is running a query on several databases at one time. something that is actually much simpler in SQL server. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Open Source DB which is equivalent to Oracle DB"
What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

Almost all features / objects including Materialised views, Views, Functions, Procedures, etc., in Oracle DB are available in it and it is open source so no need to pay any licence cost for the database, conversion tool / plugin is available to migrate data from Oracle DB to PostgreSQL. With few syntax errors entire oracle database can be migrated to PostgreSQL. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

SQL editor is not good, it doesn't have SQL beautifier and other good productivity options. It should be improved similar to PL/SQL developer or Oracle SQL developer tool. Some of the objects / concepts - Sequence, Joins with (+) symbol, ROWNUM, SYSDATE, etc., in Oracle are not available in PostgreSQL. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Review on Postgres"
What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is the SQL DB and been gaining popularity in the recent years. Today, After MySQL acquisition the community and many organisations do not consider MySQL though its popular and one of best. The next best is PostgreSQL also because of its good performance results. PostgreSQL is implements SQL standards very well and it supports advanced SQL stuff. As PostgreSQL is Open source, its been preferred by larger community and even few ECM tools Like Nuxeo ECM recommends best results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is not very easy to understand or use unlike MySQL, it requires a little learning curve for new folks. The initial installation also requires some background and will take time for first few installations or integrations with other tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"PostgreSQL > MySQL"
What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

The query capacity of PostgreSQL is superior to MySQL which is what I was using before switching over the PostgreSQL. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

Whenever you are switching querying languages there are always different querying nuances that can cause differences in what type of queries you are able to easily transfer over between languages and what changes you need to change in order to maintain efficiency and consistency. "A mature database management system"
What do you like best about PostgreSQL?

- very stable

- featurerich configuration, supports reconfiguring on fly

- lots of plugins (extensions)

- improving with each release

- ACID

- self-heal on start

- popular

- allows continuous backup and replication

- fast queries

- extended SQL (PG/SQL)

- fast restart

- has alot of GUI tools, has tuner program Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PostgreSQL?

- had problems with WALs filling up disk space. After disk space is full, it is hard to start service - simply removing extra WAL files can make DB corrupt. So there should always be a method to quickly create free space on disk partition

- some configuration options can't be reconfigured on a fly (max_connections, listen_addresses)

- may be problematic to install on Windows (it involves creating dedicated user `postgres`, automatic, but our colleagues had problems with reinstalling)

- had problems with removing tablespaces

- had problems with table and index bloat (autovacuum not helping), requires periodic maintenance

- Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
