What is Optimizely Content Management System, and what problem is it built to solve?

Optimizely Content Management System is part of Optimizely One, a digital experience platform that brings together tools for managing content and marketing work alongside experimentation, personalization, commerce, and analytics. It is built to help marketing teams plan, create, test, and deliver digital content and experiences without relying on disconnected tools.

What company sizes and industries is Optimizely Content Management System the best fit for?

Optimizely Content Management System has a strong presence among enterprise and mid-market users, with positive users also represented at small businesses. The industries with notable representation include information technology, manufacturing, education, financial services, and retail.

  • Information technology: A notable area of use among positive users.
  • Manufacturing: Includes electrical and electronic manufacturing and other manufacturing organizations.
  • Education: Includes higher education and education management.

What customer support options does Optimizely Content Management System provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Support is not part of the supplied product details, but the support experience described by users ranges from fast, helpful assistance to slower, less consistent resolution. Users value responsive help with deployment and technical issues, while some describe ticketing exchanges that require follow-up or support that could be stronger for developers.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Optimizely Content Management System from another tool?

Switching to Optimizely Content Management System has helped teams move beyond limitations in earlier systems, particularly around content editing, customization, and scaling websites. Prior tools include SharePoint, Sitecore, WordPress, and other legacy or more constrained CMS platforms; users describe gaining reusable content components, greater flexibility, and more independence for editors, though the transition can require substantial implementation and development work.

What features or capabilities could make Optimizely Content Management System even more useful?

Optimizely Content Management System could be more useful with clearer ways to find and manage content and more capability available to editors without custom development. Recurring improvement areas include:
  • Make search and navigation more effective, especially for locating pages, media, and content within complex sites.
  • Expand built-in editing options, templates, forms, and workflow controls so common needs require less custom development.
  • Simplify the authoring interface and make features easier to understand for new or nontechnical users.
  • Improve publishing automation and scheduling so teams can manage routine releases with less manual work.

I find Optimizely Content Management System easy to use, and I appreciate that it continuously improves year after year. I like the fact that you can preload pages to AB test them and discover how their services are utilized through experimentation. We also use their experimentation tools, as well as Opel, their AI tool. I highly recommend all their products and services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Optimizely’s Flexible, Transparent CMS Makes Managing Updates Easy"
5/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

One big thing that makes Optimizely a powerful CMS for Ryde is the flexibility and visibility we have throughout the CMS. Being able to easily use multiple components while also seeing when and where the updates were made. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

One issue we have had in the CMS is the project feature. We have had issues in the past where the projects crash the site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for Web Asset Management, Needs Navigation Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

I use the Optimizely Content Management System for managing our website and portals globally. I like how it helps with web asset organization. The navigation and commerce features are things I appreciate, although there aren't a lot of additional features that stand out to me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

The navigation in Optimizely Content Management System feels clunky, which makes it less intuitive to use. Also, the media library is hard to search, which can be frustrating when you're trying to find specific assets. I'm not too impressed with some of the product features, as I feel there's a lot more I need to learn about them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Optimizely’s Flexibility Makes Customization Easy"
4/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

Our company's developers customize how we use the Optimizely content management system so I would say that the flexibility of the platform is the best benefit of using the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

As the content manager I am not in communication with our account rep to learn about new integrations and opportunities with Optimizely throughout the year I pretty much depend on Opticon to learn about new features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that I am able to customize and sort items in the way that makes the most sense for me and my team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

I wish it was easier to sort the folder system. There are times that I am looking for a page and I dont know where and it takes a long time for me to think and find it. Also being able to search within the pages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Highly Customizable CMS with Unparalleled Integration Capabilities"
5/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

It is highly customizable and offers a ton of freedom to customize webpages, web framework, and content. There is little restrictions and makes it a very hands-on experience, compared to WYSIWYG heavy CMS platforms like HubSpot. Also, the integration capabilities are unparalleled. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

Sometimes, there are some repetitive operations when editing and publishing certain content. But then again, it adds to the customizable factor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly CMS with Some Limitations"
4/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

I use Optimizely Content Management System for localizing, creating, and optimizing landing pages. I find it very user-friendly and appreciate that it's structured to serve even junior-level e-commerce coordinators. I like the layout and category structure, allowing me to review, preview, and localize content from master languages effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

Sometimes it's very clumsy and has certain features missing or that simply don't work. It is quite a limited platform when it comes to creating more creative content, such as articles or adjusted landing pages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Software review and feedback for Optimizely Content Management System"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

The best thing about Optimizely CMS is their customer support; even on the weekend, they are always available. Apart from that, the ease of use is one of the best things about using Optimizely. In our company, aside from the development team, we have a content team that curates the content of our corporate website. They always want to customize some content, and they can easily customize that the way they want using the rich-text and add some custom HTML code, which is a feature of the CMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

One thing in Optimizely that is a challenge is integrating other software which they are not yet supported. Hence, software that is big in the market can be easily implemented, such as InRiver and other things, with Optimizely CMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Optimizely CMS Review 2025"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?

One thing I've always liked best about EPiServer (since I've been developing on it before the transition to Optimizely) is its versatility and open-source integration with other platforms. As a CMS developer, we are creating a content management solution that our internal authors would use, and Optimizely has its distinct feature to curate content, page layouts, and other public materials on our website. The customer support is very responsive whenever we have an issue with regards to deployment to our different staging environments, aside from production. It can also support having to develop a multisite which will share a layout to have different websites in one. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?

The least favorite feature for me is the challenge to upgrade to the latest one, as we do have an issue upgrading our framework as well. Overall, Optimizely is top-notch in its service in terms of Content Management System. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
