"The real time EHR"

What do you like best?

All through my work with Meditech EHR I found patient file retrieval very easy and very real time, I could update patient record data and share instantly to either a pharmacist for prescription all in real time, its record and use no waiting, its averagely affordable for mid-sized facilities, incorporating commonwell health alliance has made it more easier to share health information especially concerning new diseases or new conditions, this will make it very useful in creating more sustainable health solutions all over.

What do you dislike?

Not affordable for small facilities which may need the services most, everything else functions as expected but adding more and expanding connection with other service providers will do much better.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I loved Meditech especially due to how fast it is infact its a realtime software where you can get your patient's files instant without delay when needed, its very well organized.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Information exchange, storage and sharing of patient data when required to ensure the patient gets the best care.

"Gets the job done, but needs work"

What do you like best?

I like the simplicity of Meditech. Everything is easy to find and easy to do, but it needs to include more details, especially for charting purposes (I.e. wounds)

What do you dislike?

I don’t like how to find some assessment terms. Also, I feel that more details and/or text boxes can be available to allow for specific charting. Also, it does not appear to be very modern at all.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think that Meditech EHR is a simplistic method of charting electronically but it needs a lot of upgrading to match what other EHRs provide to healthcare professionals. It is difficult to be specific in your assessments and there are many duplications. I would recommend that if you want to use Meditech that you find a way to incorporate more detailed text boxes for documentation of patient findings.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Meditech allows us to chart directly and very clear cut with minimal details. The benefits include being able to access patient records without the need for searching.

What EHR solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Clinical communication available.health records kept for future benefits of both patients aclinician"

What do you like best?

The fact that it caters for patients even outside the hospital makes it my favourite.,ts in position to check on patients recovery and treading.keeping health records and print out production makes it suitable in hospital and many hospital department like Nutrition and health records together with pharmacy. It can be attested by the Government due to it's super features making it even more appealing to serve the community

What do you dislike?

It's limitted to midsized and large hospital which can afford it installation cost.i mean it's expensive.the speed should be improved to suit well in a hospital facility especially vast hospital with many clients.to operate meditech ehr require some information technology knowledge.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For the best results of well doing in any hospital employ a software keeping health records and able to check on patients treading together with enabling clinical communication as meditech ehr has done in our hospital.i love it being installed in any hospital world wide.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Keeping health records is never a burden any more.clinical communication is now owesome and checking on patients treading is now done amazingly. Meditech ehr is game changer in our hospital

"Efficient "

What do you like best?

My work recently switched from Mckesson to Meditech. It is so much easier to use and customize. I find I spend way less time charting and more time actually with the patient now. I also love how checklists and screening/medical history is online which saves paper.

What do you dislike?

It can be very slow at times. I hope that this is just a temporary glitch since it is new. I find my screen will freeze all of the time. I also notice that if I am charting on one person I cannot switch to another patient without exiting my current screen which is not ideal.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

problems - it is slow

benefit - more organized, easier to navigate patient info

"Typical Database, suits our company needs well"

What do you like best?

Overall, the health record database is standard in processing and use. Which is great for a company that has frequent change in the employees that are using the system. If they have used any other health record database with similar structure the learning curve is very limited.

What do you dislike?

The formatting of a "finished" product is one of the biggest drawbacks. The medical document often does not look as professional as what we have seen with other software providers. Also, there are times when we have very slow response in the system. This include often time consuming and stressful repetitiveness.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The biggest recommendation I have to other companies looking for an EMR system is to trial or examine the different templates available by the various providers. You want to make sure that for the services that you provide for your patients that you have the best set up. Also, it will be important to make sure that you have excellent support on the vendor side, as well as internally. We have personalized staff internally who work with our vendors in the set up and implementation of any new program, and on-going support.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

One of the biggest problem this system supports is the elimination of paper charting. However, it is important to note that this could also be achieved with the use of competitor software packages.

"Lab Tech"

What do you like best?

The very simple font and ability to "look-up all" in one key to search other lab tests. Although it took awhile to learn, once it was, it allowed much more efficiency when process/receiving labs, to enter results, to batch out send out specimen, and look up mnemonics for different lab tests, etc. For very routine tasks, it was definitely quicker than when the lab switched to sunquest.

What do you dislike?

It took awhile to get used to after using "higher-tech" computer programs because of the very basic functionality. It required learning and memorizing specific functions and codes, while using less "user-friendly" accessibility. Also, although the look-ups tools were easily accessible, there were certain things, such as: not being able to go back on certain screens, less options from one screen, and not having full knowledge and easily readable options for each given function/mode you're in.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have a good training program because if you learn all the functions it will definitely make the experience simpler and give out more efficient results.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We used Meditech in our hospital lab for both in-patient and out-patient lab functions, such as: resulting, reviewing, receiving, sending, defining, and much more.

"The worst EMR "

What do you like best?

The only good part about Meditech is the medication administration. Its easy to use and does the job. But if you have to administer Morphine or another controlled substance it is not very user friendly.

What do you dislike?

Pretty much everything. It is not user friendly. The charting is long and hard to navigate. I can't see what I wrote previously without going thru several screens. I always ask what kind of EMR does a hospital use before accepting an assignment. If they use Meditech, I politely deny the assignment.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Don't use this EHR system. Save yourself. Anything else is better.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My last assignment used Meditech. The nurses that had been there for years were still confused on how to look information up. I do not see any benefits with this program.

"Clinical Pharmacist in hospital setting"

What do you like best?

Very user-friendly, ample short-codes allowing minimization of clicking when verifying orders. System has more functions than anyone really realizes, also minimizing the need to call nurses or providers to obtain certain information about the patients. Very easy access to physician and nurses’ progress notes, enabling pharmacists to determine specific indications of drug treatments, leading to optimization of the treatments especially for per-pharmacy protocol treatments. Any necessary changes are also easily made in the system. For example, a message can be generated to the MD ordering a backordered drug, informing the MD to order an alternative drug or call pharmacy for recommendations. Its messaging system is very useful as well; the nurses and pharmacists can communicate through messages effectively, minimizing the call volume to the pharmacy and nursing units.

What do you dislike?

It tends to be slow (slower on some days) and freezes every now and then.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The interface seems archaic and very old-school, but it is a very user-friendly (maybe espcially pharmacist-friendly) system that will meet most needs. The short-codes maximize the productivity and speed of pharmacists, which is at times vital in patient care especially in hospital setting.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is used in a very clinical setting at a hospital, therefore not familiar if it is addressing any business problems.

What do you like best?

Enable doctors view patients progress since it keeps patient health record for future reference. It produces print out and has reduced paper work in data recording. It is easy to use meditech ehr

What do you dislike?

It's expensive and has slow customer support. It is not very easy to use and learn its use as it requires some IT skills to operate

Recommendations to others considering the product

Enable clinical communication for health professionals thus easy integration in other departments in hospital e.g. laboratory in keeping blood records. I recomend meditech ehr to all hospital

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Clean and intuitive"

What do you like best?

One of my favorite EMR's to use. The templates for patient charts were intuitive to use and were great time savers. It was also very straightforward to customize the templates for future notes. Going back in and editing notes was simple, as long as they hadn't been signed off by the physician yet. I enjoyed the scheduling interface, and it was easy to see which patients had been triaged where, what rooms they were in, and whether or not a physician had seen them. Seeing which physicians were taking care of which patients in the ER was also easy to do.

What do you dislike?

The process of getting back in to edit a patient note after the doctor had signed off on it was a complicated process.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great and more user friendly than a lot of other EMRs!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were building an integrated database of patient visits and patient charts. The benefit of this one over other EMRs that I have used was the user-friendly interface.

"Not the Best, But It Will Do "

What do you like best?

Meditech's UI is pretty nice. Its font is big and all text is easily legible. It's easy to learn, especially for those older nurses with whom I work. I also like the timing system where certain tasks are assigned to certain times that you must complete.

What do you dislike?

The system doesn't easily connect with other outside sources. For example, in comparison, I know Epic can easily connect to say a glucometer and the results from the glucometer pop up in Epic. In Meditech I do not believe that is possible.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would say to definitely take a look into Epic before purchasing Meditech.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used Meditech as a Registered Nurse at a community hospital. I use it for documentation purposes

"This was a good software for first-time scribes"

What do you like best?

When I first started scribing, this was the software I used in an ER. The usability was good and the formatting was simple so it was easy to chart. I don’t mind free-typing a lot of sections so Meditech allowed me to do a lot of it. I also liked the automatic importation of data/lab and imaging results in the chart.

What do you dislike?

There are some features that took a lot of clicks and time to get to. One of the most important features ER personnel would use is checking last visits and consults. Everyone had to navigate through different sections in order to find it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

EHRs have certainly made charting more efficient and accurate for providers and hospital staff alike, thus they are able to see more patients at a time. As a scribe, that is crucial in a hospital setting.

"Does the Basics"

What do you like best?

It's easy enough to navigate through menus clearly in a way that makes sense. For what I use it for, it meets the basic minimum requirements. I know it can be utilized for more and pushed to give you access to data that you are looking for. For ordering supplies and accessing the database in our store room, it works to get the job done.

What do you dislike?

The search capabilities are limited and clunky. It isn't easy to find things you're looking for with seemingly obvious keywords.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's basic software that will show your data in a basic way. Nothing fancy about Meditech. It's easy enough to use and there is probably more that can be done to push it further.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We utilized it for ordering purposes. Departments all over could access the inventory of the store room. It keeps the data updated in real time.

"Not user friendly"

What do you like best?

It has links to search topics in UpToDate and Lexicon. It has an option to use free text notes for those who are not used to or not comfortable with too many bells and whistles.

What do you dislike?

Not user friendly. Requires way too many clicks to function, and not intuitive.

Intermittently the orders (investigations, medication, nursing orders, etc) would get cancelled on its own without any trace. This was extremely unsafe for patient care.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Double check orders intermittently, as they may get deleted. This may vary between versions, I am not sure about this.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Medical Documentation, entering orders for patient care, viewing laboratory and imaging results.

"Meditech is confusing and lackluster"

What do you like best?

Web-based 6.15 Ambulatory interface for front office staff is easier to use than previous versions. However, this seems to only apply to those who are used to technology updates and advancements.

What do you dislike?

Meditech's inability to work with clients

Recommendations to others considering the product

This system has been a pain, to say the least. We lost the ability to create our own patch fixes and modules so we have to wait for the company to create and deploy anything we need. They are not timely and tend to give priority to other clients. It has been a struggle for both our clinical and non-clinical departments. The Finance and Human Resources modules are laughable and create more work than they are worth.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a system that previously utilized a prior version of Meditech, we purchased a new version to streamline our processes and have all clinics and departments on the same EHR.

The recent development of integrating commonwell health Alliance makes it more easier to solve problems by sharing medical data on a wide range of specialties. This is a green light to the future of medicine.

"Antiquated system"

What do you like best?

In the 6 months I’ve been using this system we have not had one unscheduled downtime!

What do you dislike?

This system is not helpful if quickly obtaining previous patient visit information.

The screens are challenging to navigate and pertinent information gets missed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"MediTech EHR - Good for what it is"

What do you like best?

The interface is super quick, which quick short-cut keys (like F9) to get to where you need to be.

The data security is top-notch, and all of the EMR screens and Provider orders load quickly.

What do you dislike?

It's very keyboard dependent, and a lot of the choices don't work with mouse clicks. I understand the desire for speed and keyboard funcationality, but some mouse clicks are easier.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I didn't participate in the implementation roll-out, but I was told it was a rough one. It's powerful software, so be sure to get your ducks lined up before you roll it out.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Better than some..."

What do you like best?

Once you know what to Do, some functions are easy and quick to perform.

What do you dislike?

The laboratory module feels like it was developed in sections independent of eachother and put together my a 7th grade computer class. To find a mother's blood type for a cord blood workup I have to click on 15 different things. Bringing in units is a pain as each one has to be brought in individually. You should be able to scan multiple units at once.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Don't do it. There are better programs out there with less of a,learning curve, like epic.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Archaic; leaves a lot to be desired"

What do you like best?

Hmm... I can’t think of one thing.

It’s an unfortunate system and makes my job very difficult.

What do you dislike?

Most things... it’s very difficult to navigate as it’s a DOS-based system. It appears to be from the 80s. If you have used a system like Epic, you will be so disappointed in this program. It’s terrible. I could go on all day about the things that Meditech doesn’t do when compared with most modern EHR systems.

"Meditech Review"

What do you like best?

There are no unnecessary graphics or transitions.

What do you dislike?

The software can often be unreliable. It'll close out on its own or go inactive for short periods of times.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I am indifferent about the direction that Meditech EHR is taking. This software meets my particular needs, but it may or may not meet the needs of other hospital personnel.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are able to streamline electronic health records across all campus within the CHI Memorial network in live time. One benefit is that each Meditech EHR user has access to features that are specific to their role in the workplace. This prevents user from inappropriately accessing personal health information that is not pertinent to their specific role, thus protecting the privacy of patients.

"Application for Psychiatric Patient Case notes"

What do you like best?

The ease of use i.e. now "check-off" boxes are included, then one can scroll down to a case note field to elaborate or summarize the checked boxes.

What do you dislike?

Can be a bit lengthy due to the all-encompassing options. Maybe a "narrow-casted" filed selection would be a thing for future consideration.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Meditech is nice"

What do you like best?

I like the easy-to-view layout of the options. I can select options easily and log patient data. This program is widely used in our hospital so most people know how to use it.

What do you dislike?

I don't like how outdated it seems to look compared to Epic. My hospital is thinking of switching from Meditech to Epic because you can't edit things Live (at the same time) from remote locations.

"Easy platform"

What do you like best?

I appreciated the ease of charting, it was very efficient, especially when building what was needed for a chart note.

What do you dislike?

It can at times be too vague for charting- which again has to do with user settings for individual charting.

Recommendations to others considering the product

None. I believe for a skilled nursing facility that this program is efficient.

"Meditech so easy to use"

What do you like best?

I appreciate the ease of use from this program. I am a Health Unit Coordinator and put the doctors order in. Just type in a keyword and you will find the order you are looking for, if it is there. I tell my nurses to use the simplest terms possible.

What do you dislike?

I'm not sure if Meditech has been set up specifically for my facility, but it would be nice to have more order options. I have been telling them for years that I want an order for H&H together, to no avail.

"Good for our needs but could be better"

What do you like best?

I like the fact that Meditech can keep track of a wide variety of information on many different people and generate some helpful reports. It's fairly easy to learn.

What do you dislike?

I feel like the app is very slow, and I know the work processors aren't ancient, so I'm guessing the program software is laggy. I also feel like some tasks could be more straightforward and easy to access. There are some redundancies in the way data is kept.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure it goes well with current systems, especially if you're needing to use it cross application

"MediTech Review: Heath Leber (Employer: Bristol Hospital and Healthcare Group)"

What do you like best?

I like the ease of use with Meditech EHR. Information is readily accessible, and there really isn't any issue with accessing patient records, lab tests, demographic information, etc. It is essentially a foolproof system that is good for both use in the workplace and training of new hires.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that it is susceptible to being slow, and downtime for upgrades is somewhat of a burden.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using Meditech to help process laboratory testing and increase turnaround time and patient diagnosis in the hospital setting. "Simple and Quick Depending on Version"

What do you like best?

Speed of the system is very good in my opinion. Updates are fairly regular. Many options to incorporate into EMR systems to keep up with evolving health related goals.

What do you dislike?

Updates are regular enough but hard to implement. User support is not the greatest. Having to use out-dated software because newer updates become very buggy.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Meditech Upgrade"

What do you like best?

We just completed an upgrade to Meditech 6.15. We have some glitches, but we are loving the new features that make documenting and reviewing patient information easier.

What do you dislike?

The response time to questions is delayed at times, which makes it difficult to complete things when the support is delayed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Our employees are loving our updated Meditech system. Once we work out our glitches, we can really start to maximize its capabilities.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Now that we have upgraded to Meditech 6.15, our healthcare facilities are all documenting in the same spot. There is only one patient record instead of some electronic and some paper.

"Old template layout "

What do you like best?

Once you know the system and keyboard shortcuts, it is easy and fast to document in a clinical perspective. Care plans are created and uploaded automatically pulled from data input.

What do you dislike?

Old template and screen layout. Not easily clickable since unless you have memorized or remember all options on drop down, and you most likely have to memorize shortcuts with F12 to work fast during documentation. Takes awhile to upload when just turning on computer and logging on

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Clinical documentation based on physical assessments and inputting physician orders except medications.

We were filing and updating patients information and their charts to meditech

"Takes some learning, but overall adequate program "

What do you like best?

After learning your way around, Meditech has the capabilities and functions to complete necessary work processes. It is a simple system to access the EHR while completing work in your module.

Meditech is not intuitive. It takes some time to understand the functions. The F1 help menu freezes often.

Suitable program that will meet your needs after some learning.

We have been able to use Meditech (along with other programs, including Omnicell) to generate reports to closely monitor antibiotic stewardship and controlled substance dispensing.

"Got some cool functions once you get a hand of the software"

What do you like best?

I love how they highlight all the new data in red since your last login, so you get a quick update on any progress. It's also very helpful that you can get a graphical representation of all the data points in a category so you can follow the trend!

What do you dislike?

It takes a while to get used to the system. And the " location" section is confusing to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Record keeping/finding in electronic methods

"Simpe, User-friendly and efficient software"

What do you like best?

I like the fact that provides safe med pass but having a few checks in place to allow the right patient is receiving the right medicine.

What do you dislike?

I wish that the program was Microsoft based because use of mouse and the function keys is limited.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Meditech allows a safe med pass which could be detrimental when working in a hospital if not done correctly. This product is helping me to prevent med errors or catch a potential med error. The benefits are infinite because this product could save a life.

"Confusing for New Users"

What do you like best?

It is quick to use after learning how everything works.

What do you dislike?

I think the layout is more confusing than it needs to be. When I was learning how to use this system I remember thinking it was very strange how everything was formatted. It looks very outdated- like it hasn’t been updated since around 2005.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is used to create patient appointments and stores patient personal info and insurance info.

"Meditech needs an overhaul"

What do you like best?

Your worklist is a way to organize your work. It also alerts you that a lab needs to be collected.

What do you dislike?

It's repetitive and limited in choices for charting. I find it difficult to navigate and reviewing orders is cumbersome. The Mar is disorganized. It looks outdated.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It will require constant tweaking by your company since it is so bare bones

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I imagine it's a very frugal alternative for hospitals. However, it may leave them open to legal issues.
