"Eight‑Year Customer Warning: JW Player’s opaque pricing and inflated storage costs"
What do you like best about JW Player?

We have used it for 8 years, and we have not had any significant downtime or issues. It's an established platform, which has been fairly stable also for higher usage. It can scale with bigger video needs - but tbh, nowadays all platforms can do that. So whats best? They have delivered video's fine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about JW Player?

There are many downsides in my experience. Let me address a few, to make it more easy for you to decide to stay or migrate or start with them.

1. Package based pricing

First of all - they don't charge based on usage, but based on packages. This means you are always paying for storage, streams and views that you might not use. When you go slightly over, they come right away with overage charges.

Most important tho, is their dishonest way of charging for storage.

2. Misleading storage charges

They charge you both for the different variants stored (fair), ánd the original video size that they remove. This means, storage charges are heavily inflated. In our case - after migrating to a new solution, we went from 22TB stored to 6.6TB stored. This eventually leads to a 78% reduction in our expenses regarding our video solution.

3. Limited customization options

They offer very limited customization options in settings and player. When you're working with it, you think it's fine. However after migrating, we realize how much options we have been missing. Think in customizations to the player, API features etc. Our developers are very happy after the migration.

4. High cost relative to value

Because of inflated storage figures and required package upgrades, we paid significantly more than necessary. After switching providers, our annual streaming costs dropped 78 % (saving roughly USD 14,000) while maintaining the same usage. Migration took about one week and was straightforward. Our biggest regret is that we did not switch sooner.

5. Account managers are sales representatives

They call them support and account managers. However, to be honest, they are there just to push you into higher packages. Coming with 'you have significant overages, if you upgrade to a higher package we can waive them'. I'm not sure if this is something you can expect from a company that overcharges this much - but from account managers I expect them to look also into a ways to help their customers, not only how to get the most money out of them. But that might be just a hope that more companies don't do.

Overall, it has been stable to use. Just their opaque and unfair pricing and limited functionalities make it not a good choice. There are many other solutions in the market that you should try before using JW player. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"not good"
What do you like best about JW Player?

i dont like most things about JW player. It's been a struggle getting used to it and it continues to surprise me with things not going well Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about JW Player?

It's difficult to distinguish between our different upload pages (we have 3 brands). The fact that I have to add my own source file name is ridiculous and repetitive Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"An Excellent Analytics Platform for Media Hosting"
What do you like best about JW Player?

JW Player has many different analytics and insights tools, including total plays, average video complete rate, devices, and countries. This makes it easy for our team to assess what our users are resonating with and what they aren't. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about JW Player?

The app is quite expensive to use if you use it to host large volumes of content like we do on our platform. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with my experience using JW Player. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Versatile Option for sending streams to various outlets!"
What do you like best about JW Player?

Its been a while since I had used JW Player, but, when I started at Ranker we did use it. It was interesting to use it to push videos out to various outlets / RSS feds, but, ultimately, Ranker did decide to stop using it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about JW Player?

The interface was a bit clunky in cofiguring feeds etc. It worked, but, the user interface took some figureing - we used it to push out videos to MAZ in conjunction with a Roku (OTT) channel we had at the time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The Trusted JW Player Experience"
What do you like best about JW Player?

At first we wanted to find only one solution to be able to insert videos on web pages, in this search for alternatives we have JW Player, the first impression is that it was easy to use, everything was neat and without any visible distractions in the player. Another feature within this facility that I indicate to you is how flexible it was to complete the integration process to the central CMS that we use, everything is unified so as not to use extra programs. In general, what I could say about JW Player is that on our part it is generally approved, with good technology, and it is important to make use of everything that the player offers, such as its analysis or ROI monitoring, so that the application strengthens your work. What do you dislike about JW Player?

I would say that their video management is still somewhat poor, what they offer is completely efficient that I must say, but I would like to have multichannel publishing or audience segmentation, unless they offer this in more advanced payment plans, but it is non-existent and I see no signs of integrating these or other valuable features. What do you dislike about JW Player?

I had a rather intriguing mishap, since in some of our video it began to report an error at the time of playback, this error pointed to the video as if it was damaged, of course the first thing we did was validate the status on the video platform and it was completely fine, it was not damaged, we tried to contact customer service, and they did not give us any effective solution, so on our own we decided to download and upload the same video again, and it was solved, this made us see that the problem had it the software. "Shame on JWPlayer and their Woke Corporate Culture"
What do you like best about JW Player?

What's to like if they will silence one of America's favorite media outlets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about JW Player?

They canceled the PragerU video hosting. Do not support this left leaning platform. They think choosing sides is a smart business decision. Go woke and go broke. Time for all of us to wake up and shut down the cancel culture and censorship of the Left. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
