Apparent acknowledgement of customer service/focus is also valued. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** Current analytics are weak/difficult but improving, and "traversing the database" is difficult (have to move to different sections to get related information). Writing reports should be easy/straight-forward and not require special tables to be built to get related info. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** This system, invention/commercialization tracking, captures our entire business (including inventions, patents, licenses, revenues, and more...) and the benefit is a single point of reference. ### 2. We used to have speed issues with other database companies. Inteum has solved this issue and is very intuitive and easy to use. Customized reports are easy to design and present only the data I want. Also like the Form Letter capability - we now have 30 self-populating form letters so we can communicate with both our inventors and outside counsel on many of the activities associated with the patent prosecution process. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** occasionally i run across aspects that don't work they way one would assume given the focus of the db - a lay version of a patent docket system. One example that was only very recently resolved was the ability to access HOME addresses in our forms. It took years for the system to be upgraded to include this capability. also not thrilled with the forced migration to web from the C/S environment - have learned to use the Web version, but still think the C/S version is more powerful. **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** Julie Hancock does a PHENOMENAL job on data migration ! Information is easily accessible from an overview, with the capability to drill down The customer service is outstanding. They want there clients to get the most out of their product. They go far beyond typical efforts to make this happen. A robust help web site. Personalized attention and continuous training and development of the software. Usually incorporating customer feedback. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** The relationships are complex and when trying to create custom reports datasets results are no always what you expected, if you don't truely understand those relationships. Excellent customer support is available to help bring a user up to speed. If you should wish too, Inteum can create the custom reports or datasets you need for a small fee. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used to run several databases in Parallel, with duplication of effort to populate the same information on multiple platforms and spend additional time reconciling the information. ### 7. Making the Technology record the "home" record for all of our patent activity, financial activity and communications really centralizes grounds our processes. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** I dont think there is any feature that I would say I dislike. The software is flexible to allow integration to your business processes, and "out of the box" is quite comprehensive. If there's something that I don't like - I'm able to modify the module to suit my needs. **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** Inteum is a great out of the box IP Portfolio Manager. But their biggest strength is in their flexibility which allows users to customize the software to fit their business model. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** Federal Reporting Compliance Management, Licensee Compliance and Financial Management, Internal Funding Award RFP to Awards management, as well as the traditional tech transfer technology and IP management. Being able to link each of these key parts together helps to create that comprehensive overview that is needed in order to make critical decisions about how to move forward. It is a great way to keep the agreements and intellectual property for your company organized. I especially like the fact that you can add a termination date so that you do not have to go in and update when an agreement is terminated. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** I do not like the fact that you are unable to right click to paste something, instead you must hit ctrl+c or ctrl+v to copy and paste into Inteum. I have also had some difficulty going in and adding some descriptions that were necessary, but it may just be user error. **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** The quality of support is amazing. If you have issues regarding Inteum, they are great at helping you to resolve them. There is also a user forum that is very helpful. They are great at helping you to improve your use of Inteum. Overall, I believe that it is a great tool to keep your office or company organized. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are trying to keep all of our agreements and intellectual property paperwork organized and in a digital format. It is a great way to keep applications, patents, and agreements all in the same place. I especially like the fact that you can download a plug-in for your email so that you can associate certain emails with things in Inteum. It's a great organizational tool and makes it a lot easier to find things that are related. ### 9. The activity generation and follow up functionality is very valuable and a unique product offering bundled with all the other attributes. You can decide if your organization only needs to use some of the modules vs the full product offering without giving up on any of the functionality. Their customer service is exceptional to ensure the system meets your unique organizational requirements - they don't want you to buy something that you cannot or will not use. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** We are still having some issues with custom reporting but mainly because we are hosted and don't have crystal reporting software. That being said Inteum is working with us to meet our reporting needs as best they can **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are managing publically funded research and innovation projects - the main outcome is knowledge in the form of a final written report and/or a software products such as a model, database or website rather than patents but it works well to index project detail and related information as well as keep track of reports that are due and when they are received. We are proactively managing research project information and outcomes using the Inteum software - now working towards providing the project analytics to our business now that we have all the information in one place and taking advantage of the analytics functionality they offer ### 10. We also need to consolidate our real-reporting abilities. Keystroke response times can also be quite slow for our web-hosted account. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have successfully negotiated agreements serving a large and varied stakeholder set, leveraging a large and complicated IP asset portfolio, and tapping diverse and dynamic markets. ### 12. It has great uses for showing relational data and provides an excellent source for producing reports for all project related information. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** The unfortunate part about using Inteum outside of its intended purposes is that it requires some discovery about how to use the existing fields and how to develop User Defined Fields. As a result it has taken a lot of collaboration and requests back and forth with Inteum team members in order to get the uses out of the tool. This is still a work in a progress, but as I come across obstacles the representatives and the IT support have been very accommodating to provide me with what I need. **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** the system is great for managing IP and even for managing grant funding, as their receivables end for reporting is very robust. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** Reporting is increasingly requested and as a result inputting all the requested information into a database provides a quick solution to reporting on different levels of information that are related. In the past, much of the information in the reports are populated manually and could be automated through the use of Inteum. The challenge is often times we require developing the report from scratch since we aren't using Inteum for its intended purposes. We have had some great success with the use of Analytics in order to bring together all related information from Inteum. ### 13. All the things I need to effectively manage my portion of the Tech Transfer office is easily accessed, reports, searches, etc. Our account representative is super nice as well and always readily available for questions. The webinars are great too. My favorite feature is the daily reminder of activities due as it keeps me on top of deadlines. **What do you dislike about Inteum?** My problems are not with Inteum themselves. Our internal firewall and robust IT Security prevent us from accessing all of the available features. E-mail manager is non-functional for us at the moment and will take about a 6 month review process within the health system to get it running. **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** Check your internal IT Security configurations to ensure that you'll be able to use all features effectively. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quickly creating reports for our Board of Directors meetings and other various meetings that require updates on patent metrics. Staying on top of patent deadlines with the automatic reminders. The Outlook Plugin is a huge benefit to conveniently store correspondence from Patent Attorneys. Other features have not been fully utilized due to server issues internally. ### 14. Report queries are not intuitive, take some practice; consequently only two people in our group can run customized reports. **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** There are several systems available now, more than when we chose Inteum, so take a look at all before deciding. However, consider my comments about the installed base, the large user community, Inteum's excellent customer service, and their fairly consistent improvement cycle. Some tech transfer offices have opted for customized solutions, and if you have a large enough office and budget to support that it might be best. But most folks I've talked with that started with a customized solution eventually moved over to one of the vendors, and that has been Inteum as often as not. No system is perfect - in 20+ years I've never heard anyone rave about their database system. I've heard some brag about their customized systems, but they've also admitted that they require in-house expertise and a significant budget to maintain it. For small - mid-size offices, I'd give Inteum a strong recommendation. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** Inteum is the best of the tech transfer databases that we've seen for collecting, organizing, tracking, and reporting the massive amounts of data we produce each year. ### 15. If I had to chose something it would be that certain features cannot be customized for us specifically as it would impact all customers. (Like changing the search fields, etc) **Recommendations to others considering Inteum:** Data migration is probably the biggest obstacle to implementing Inteum. Because Inteum is capable of so much more, there is often missing data that will later need to be manually filled in. So plan to spend a lot of time planning and cleaning up data with Inteum. However the support team was great and is still great at assisting us. **What problems is Inteum solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's solved how we can better manage our data. Saving time and effort while reducing duplication. Already we've saved time by automating tasks and consolidating information into one system. ### 18.
