## FoundationIP Reviews
  ### 1. For me feel that FIP is a one stop shop for IP Prosecution docketing of Patents, Trademark, etc....

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Creating reports which are very helpful for our clients and also our attorneys and paralegals. Creating workflows which are helpful to our team.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

There are areas for improvements andClarivate is working on improving in many areas.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Images and goods and services featuers for easy reporting to clients.

  ### 2. intellectual property

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad F. | Full Stack Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2023

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

One of the main advantages of FoundationIP is its user-friendly interface, which allows users to easily access and manage their IP portfolios from any location with internet access. The software offers a range of features such as automated data capture, document management, portfolio tracking, analytics, and reporting tools that can help organizations streamline their IP management processes and improve their decision-making.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

relatively expensive compared to other IP management solutions, especially for smaller organizations with limited budgets.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamlining IP management processes: FoundationIP can help organizations automate and streamline various aspects of their IP management processes, including data capture, document management, and portfolio tracking. By reducing manual work and streamlining workflows, FoundationIP can help organizations save time and improve efficiency.

  ### 3. The move to Clarivate has been a disaster for FoundationIP

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2022

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The ability to integrate several features with our IP docketing platform would be a tremendous asset and is why we chose the platform. Unfortunately, two years in and we have never received the benefit. The ineptitude of the team and the constant employee turnover throughout the move to Clarivate has resulted in repeated implementation delays. Two years in and we continue to face months of delay from the development team.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

The customer service is terrible. At one point, shortly after the acquisition of CPA Global by Clarivate was finalized, the initial implementation was still incomplete and they decided to invoice us for the implementation. The agreement was that the implementation project would be invoiced on completion. We spent months back and forth, during which the management insisted the implementation was complete while the development team was telling them and us the project was still incomplete. Meanwhile, we still did not have the working implementation we had ordered. We were finally able to get the left hand to talk to the right hand; they agreed the implementation was incomplete, apologized for the confusion, and agreed to begin working again to complete the implementation. We began working again in early fall of 2021 with the development team to complete the implementation. Now, in early 2022 and more than two years after we initially began the implementation, we are still facing months of delay from the development team. They've demoed a great product but have been incapable after 2 years to fully deliver the product they demonstrated to us.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

It's difficult to recommend. Once you begin using Foundation IP there is a real barrier to changing docketing platforms, but don't count on them being capable of delivering all of the features they demonstrate to you. There are a number of new and existing platforms that are developing competing products, and if I knew then what we would face with the acquisition by Clarivate I would have gone elsewhere.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The docketing works as intended, although there can be a learning curve and the training provided by the company is very inadequate. We have found the best training is provided by third-party consultants and not through the company. The problem that we have had is that we purchased several features such as the invention disclosure wizard and the forecasting tools. While these should be very powerful features, we have been unable to use these to their full potential. No training and no manual is available for the wizard and the development team has been unable to even finish the implementation of the forecast tools after 2 years of working with them, The entire project has been plagued by frequent turnover throughout the Clarivate acquisition and the apparent ineptitude of the development team. The consultant now in charge of the Forecast implementation seems quite pleasant and knowledgeable, but it's becoming quite comical (and disappointing) the weekly emails informing us that the development team has stilll not completed the work.

  ### 4. Useful for intended purpose

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg R. | Patent Attorney, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2020

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Easy to access my cases and view history of the case that is being drafted as a provisional or non-provisional patent application or being prosecuted before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Calendar view of billing history. I can search by docket number very easily. It is easy to search by attorney docket number. It is easy to enter and release billing entries.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It is very difficult to view billing history for each case. Oftentimes, I have to go through multiple different tabs and windows to do this. Also, I cannot search by USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) application number. I cannot search by client file number. I can only search by attorney docket number and need to know the attorney docket number to find information about a case.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

It is very useful for tracking patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. However, it is not integrated with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and requires manual integration by a paralegal. You might spend lots of money on paralegal time.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Foundation IP to manage the IP docketing and billing for my intellectual property law firm. It is a comprehensive software suite that offers easy to use browser-based solutions to this problem. Foundation IP is very convenient. However, it is not at all integrated with the Patent Application Retrieval System of the United States Patent and Trademark Office or the European Patent Office.

  ### 5. Solid Online-Only IP Docketing Platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caitlin T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2020

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

We like the ability to create custom docketing templates as well as the tags and categories features. The software is updated frequently, so we feel we can trust the rules being applied when we docket new tasks. We like being able to maintain our docket ourselves, relying on FoundationIP for support when necessary, but without having to use an expensive third party provider. Being online-only is a major plus for our firm since we were paperless from the start. We don't have to download or set up clunky software on our firm computers and can just set employees up with a login to the FoundationIP website.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Some of the standard docketing templates need to allow for more customization. For example, docketing the receipt of an interview summary from the examiner also dockets supplemental IDSs (which can be turned off) and a response that we will never file. It would be nice to tell the system at a higher level that the task isn't necessary or get an option like there is for IDSs. Another thing that would be nice is a way to reliably change between matter types after opening a new matter. A client may instruct us to file a US-nonprovisional application, which we open in the docket, then change their mind that they want it to be filed provisionally or PCT first. This requires deleting the US-NP that we originally opened and reopening another matter with the new designation. Not doing this risks rules not being applied properly.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Work directly with the FoundationIP support team at the setup stage to make sure you aren't digging yourself into any holes! The support is very helpful and always ready to go.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We run all of our docketing through FoundationIP at this point. When the firm started, we just used it for US docketing, but now trust them enough for foreign docketing as well. Our docket primarily serves as a backstop for internally-maintained lists, and it's nice being able to rely on the rules set by Foundation IP to solve any discrepancies that may come up.

  ### 6. FoundationIP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2021

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The Cloud Portal is an amazing feature for FoundationIP. You can review and track your docket in real time

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

I have not found anything that I dislike at this time.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With doing say many cases you can track your dockets fast and easy. This is just so time saving.

  ### 7. My experience Foundation IP

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2020

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Freelance, I worked for a firm to integrate their portfolios on Foundation IP. The software is very intuitive. I preferred the English version to the French version. Having worked on other IP software before and I have noticed both positive and negative points.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

You have a tab showing the assignment with the date of registration to the Offices but the changes concerning an applicant are not limited to the assignments. It's interesting the change of name and address of the applicant. To upload the documents, it was not possible to put email in format .eml (mac). For the constitution of reports (deadlines, annuities, etc.) there is less intuitive.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

We must study the needs of the company, take into account the different actors of the company for an easy reading of the search. I have already worked on different IP software and all software have its negatives and positives points. each Company must determine its needs to improve Foundation IP.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Foundation IP is a software which must make it possible to manage the deadlines and the title portfolios easily so that each collaborator can have access to the applications and managed the deadlines easily

  ### 8. Software is a good overall product

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rita B. | Paralegal, Law Practice, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Capability of having all matter data in one place. Ability to sort and search results.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

The person entering data does not seem to have sufficient knowledge of how to properly apply trademark rules using the software. I would like easier ways to edit and create our own reports. I thought the docketing and paralegal rates were too high.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Take the time to learn how to use the software and endure the trainings.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FoundationIP houses our IP docketing of active matters. The tremendous benefit is having a reliable docketing system, which also satisfies our insurance coverage requirements.

  ### 9. great docketing system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2020

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Foundation IP has a user friendly interface. It's easy to navigate and helpful in storing all specific patent information. I've used FIP both as the main docketing specialist and as a paralegal. You can basically have to work for you.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

You need to be a computer genius to create reports from scratch.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

It takes some getting used to because it does provide a lot of information but once you learn how to navigate it, you can't imagine working with anything else.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Foundation IP provides ample space to store all the information you need. The biggest benefit is storing related applications and how you can navigate between them with ease.

  ### 10. A solid tool that has a lot of potential.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2020

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I like how easy it is to use and that it is relatively reliable compared to other database systems. It's customizable to our specific needs and updated every so often in accordance with country laws.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

There are still a lot of features that need to be updated or developed to truly make it more helpful to use such as being able to recall e-mails when reporting out. Additionally, although it is easy to use, it does take some training to really utilize all the capabilities. Personally, I wish running reports would be more user friendly and that they would bring back the PTO scraping tool. I also hope that more training is provided on a more consistent basis.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Overall, Foundation IP is a solid tool and reliable docketing system.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We rely on the software everyday and it is helpful to not have to docket things manually.

  ### 11. Great "off-the-shelf" IP Asset Management and Docketing System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2020

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Cloud-based solution that allows teams to work collaboratively in managing IP prosecution and registration.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Could be more intuitive and have an improved user interface and user experience.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

As Foundation IP requires some setting-up it might be worthwhile to request additional (paid) support to speed up the process as opposed to doing so on your own.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Docketing of deadlines; Calculation of deadlines and sending of reminders for actionable items are some issues solved. We have gained significant time savings in having the system take over that load and have reduced any administrative errors significantly.

I do not know.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Dental Manufacturing company
Within our company about 20-30 users

various data type and attribute were provided for the patent data.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Displayed data type is limitted. User only could use the Report function to extract data.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In Korea, it's new patent management service, so there was no agent who had an experience of using it.

  ### 14. Organising workflow

Foundation IP is superior than Inprotech case management and helps the attorneys to organize work.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Having FIP integration be seemless with other softwares

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organising workloads
Better management of deadlines

  ### 15. Comprehensive and sophisticated. Somewhat costly, and the user interface could be friendlier.

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

User interface is cumbersome and not very user-friendly. Searching and reporting are inconvenient and require extensive training.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficiently track and handle a large amount of action items. Convenient annuity payments from within the platform.

  ### 16. Good

It keeps all case information organized and running smoothly.

  ### 20. I love working with FoundationIP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susan D. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2019

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I like FoundationIP’s ease of use and flexibility to configure the system to meet our company’s needs. I’ve onboarded and trained numerous outside counsel to come into the system to docket PTO actions and report-out to in-house staff. Some outside firm docket teams also have broader privileges to act as an extension of our in-house team to help ease workloads so additional privileges can easily be assigned to individuals or specific teams. We have also set up many of the commonly used activity templates with email report-out language in order to speed up reporting out process.
Another upside is the great customer support we receive. The team is personable and responds quickly providing the support we need to get our issues resolved in no time. Lastly, CPA Global has established software committees that comprise of clients who have interest in what’s on the horizon. This promotes polling of clients to create wish lists that turn into enhancements in future releases. They have a solid structure of releases quarterly and annually.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Note that with any system, too much flexibility may lead to having tasks done in a multitude of ways rather than how it may be originally configured within your company. We have no issues. The goal is to have consistency and accuracy of data so as long as these aspects are carefully and thoughtfully managed you won’t have any issues.
Reporting functionality is logical and easy to create but hoping someday that a more drag and drop feature is available.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Just get it. The functionality covers everything you need to be a one stop shop. If you are really interested, the IDS manager is a great tool to manage all of your references and citing art in multiple cases. It has auto-generating PTO forms built in.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accessibility; streamlining procedures rather than working in silos; automating certain reports is time saving; Other benefits include having not only our patent matters but other types of matters such as due diligence, opinions, agreements, etc. so FoundationIP acts as a central hub and repository.

**Official Response from Amanda Brown:**

> Susan - Thank you so very much for the wonderful review! We love to hear from our customers and I will pass on your positive feedback to our Customer Support team.

  ### 21. Foundation IP for Patent/Trademark prosecution docketing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leslie K. | Docketing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2019

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

We like the customer service support, the events tab, and the playing items through to the activity code. The audits and family tree/related matters are very handy. The report structure is very robust.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It is hard to find step by step instructions. I dont know which manual to look in for what. there is a lot of great information out there, but where do I find what I need.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Have dedicated training sessions to learn Foundation IP, have a lead at your firm to understand the system. It is a great docketing program, but you do need to have a dedicated resource.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Standardization of docketing is being solved. Benefits: ability to run tailored reports.

  ### 22. FoundationIP has endless capabilities, but it definitely requires training to use all its features.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2019

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

There are a number of reports that can be generated and configured in just about any way you would like.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

The methods of entering data are somewhat counterintuitive.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Obtain as much training for you and for users as you are able. Familiarize yourself with FoundationIP and the services offered in conjunction with it, such as Innography. If you are an employer of a small firm, it may be a good idea to designate at least one individual to be an administrator, and provide that administrator the access they will need to use FoundationIP efficiently. Employers/administrators, be aware that there may be features within the software that are not "turned on" initially, so features you might see (such as IDS Manager), and in some cases may not even be aware of, may not be seen by other users until that option is turned on for them.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FoundationIP is a reliable docketing and reporting system, which we rely on daily.

  ### 23. Review of Foundation IP

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mae P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I can find the matters I am working on very easily. Case information is readily available. The dashboard is great to see recent matters. I can run reports and look up contacts very easily. The Dashboard allows me to see recent matters that I have worked on and what daily tasks that I have to work on.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

I would like to see more information under the Entities and Personnel tabs so that I don't have to click on each name separately. It would be nice to have that information more visible instead of having to click into each name and the return back.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

The software is easy for anyone to learn how to use. Other than some training in the beginning, a user can pick up on navigating and looking information by themselves. The tabs are helpful to find any information needed. I appreciate the ability to run reports for any situtation.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to produce reports for the client very quickly. The option to download a report in different formats, such Excel or Word helps cater to the client's needs. Also, there are different reports, depending on the requests from the client. I am benefiting from all of the information provided in the Matter Home page. I can find the title, client name, entity size, file number, etc. right on the front page.

**Official Response from Amanda Brown:**

> Thank you for the detailed review Mae!

  ### 24. There's no better tool than FoundationIP

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel M. | IP Operations Manager, Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2016

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

If FoundationIP doesn't have a solution, they will help you figure one out. There is no high pressure sale to get you to buy a product. They always want to work with us to figure out what makes the best sense for our business need or the problem we are trying to solve.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Report building - would like to see more drag & drop capabilities rather than traditional programming. I would like the ability to search (with words, like the reports screen) all of the matter blocks and data fields for quicker report building capabilities.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Understand what you want and need from an IPMS. FoundationIP can do almost anything and with their developing products, it will be more powerful and useful to anyone looking to not only manage their IP data, but also leverage their organization's innovation.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Innovation workflow and processes for business leads, IP metrics and dashboards for leaders.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Many thanks for your review and feedback!

  ### 25. Helps me sleep at night

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David V. | President, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2017

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

It's comforting to know that FIP, my docket system, knows the patent rules for both the US and worldwide. This takes a lot of pressure off a small firm like mine.
The frequent and thorough reminders are helpful when planning my workload.
Having the docket program web-based means I can log in from any computer and have no concern about data loss.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It's probably time for FIP to upgrade their web interface. It works fine, but I'm betting they can improve it. The interface requires a few too many clicks to change details (etc.). This is not a strong dislike. Rather it's a suggestion that their product can be upgraded.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Give it a try. They were very helpful when I needed to bring in a large docket from another firm.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using FIP limits my need for clerical staff, which is a substantial benefit for a small firm/solo practitioner.
FIP also automates many of my docketing needs. This relieves any pressure on me to be an expert in every jurisdiction where my clients have applications/patent.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Thank you for the wonderful review David. We appreciate it!

  ### 26. Daily User of Foundation IP

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I like being able to check related cases (helpful for foreign patents and filing Information Disclosure Statements). I also like seeing what attorneys are assigned to a matter.
Emails don't always auto-save into the correct location, but when the feature works correctly it's helpful.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

There are a lot of glitches when sending emails out of FIP. Email formatting (spacing, font, etc.) is often distorted after sending, or sometimes completely blank. You aren't able to re-order attachments or check that they are the correct documents once attached to an email. Email addresses don't auto-populate like in Outlook, so you have to copy and paste or type them fully every time. I'm not able to save draft emails for sending later for attorney review. Sending an email now takes drastically longer than it did in Outlook.
Running reports isn't very intuitive or user-friendly. It often takes multiple attempts obtain the correct information. Daily dockets generated in FIP include a lot of duplicate entries and future reminders, which makes it long and a bit overwhelming. I end up spending a lot of time looking into matters only to find out they're not due for a few months. I wish there was a simplified or condensed daily docket with hard deadlines only.
Saving documents and emails to each task/topic can make locating the last email sent to a client difficult. It would be helpful to have a feature that sorts all emails for a matter in chronological order.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

There are email issues that need to be addressed before FIP is fully utilized.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Docketing, saving emails, saving references for IDS filing and co-pending cases.

**Official Response from Amanda Brown:**

> Thanks very much for the detailed review! We will ensure the developers get a copy of your feedback.

  ### 27. Time-saver DM system

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

My favorite aspect of FIP is the email feature. I truly appreciate not having to save every single piece of incoming mail that arrives for various cases throughout the day. As an Intellectual Property Assistant, I'm constantly accessing my inbox and need to have correspondence organized in a manner that is timely and easy to understand. Having each item of mail associated with the client matter is so helpful!

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

I dislike the fact that I'm not able to recall emails that are sent by mistake. This feature in Outlook is helpful, at times.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In terms of business problems, FIP helps me easily navigate the key issues regarding specific cases. I'm also able to look up how many cases are being handled for particular clients and can easily identify items that are overdue or need more prompt attention. As for benefits, FIP streamlines the work that needs to get done on a daily basis.

**Official Response from Amanda Brown:**

> Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate it.

  ### 28. Overall good platform for IP submission.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gregory S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Ease of use, simple instructions and definitions for new user. Walked the user through what was necessary, was not confusing. Multiple people in our group had to use the platform to fill in information and no one else had any issues with it either.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Didn't have any problems at all to report. Even the email setup for multiple users worked well.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Go for it, works very well without any issues at all.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm just a user, this was to submit a patent application. It worked well and was not a confusing new system to have to learn, just straightforward fill in the blanks and everything got taken care of.

  ### 29. Makes Docketing Life Easier

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erin O. | Senior Trademark Docketing Coordinator, Legal Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2017

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The overall functionality is great. I like the separate activities for certain documents and items, it makes the docket look much cleaner.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Communication- when the system goes down or updates are made, it's a bit of goose chase to hunt down information. Also, it's a bit busy. There are too many different ways to access information. It can get too teched out.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefit is being able to track data and see what users worked on a certain case.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Thank you for your candid feedback Erin! Glad to hear that docketing is easier with FoundationIP. We will pass along your feedback to our development team.

  ### 30. Awkward interface and buggy system limits the utility of this software

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Ability to create complex reports. Our most advanced users are true believers and find it a powerful tool.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Foundation IP is not at all intuitive. Even after a year and a half of use and some training, it is still difficult to use. You need to invest a huge amount of time in figuring out how to navigate the system. Our engineer inventors hate using it and it is actually an obstacle to invention harvesting. It also crashes frequently and takes a long time to load between screens.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Very difficult to use. Invest a huge amount of time in extensive training. Do not expect positive feedback from non-legal users (engineers, etc.) who have to use it for invention disclosure submissions.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I cannot honestly say that I have solved any business problems with FIP. The benefits are limited due to the drawbacks discussed above.

**Official Response from Amanda Brown:**

> Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you find FoundationIP tricky to use.

  ### 31. Corporate Paralegal

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sharon S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The best part of FIP is the multitude of ways in which to search for a particular item(s) giving the user the ability to find something even if not having all of the information on the trademark readily available.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Currently I have no encountered anything that creates a dislike to the product. The product is fairly user friendly.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having a fully functional trademark database which houses the pertinent documents relating to each trademark entry (i.e. registration, renewals, etc.). Able to locate information within a few seconds of searching. Able to look at actual documents without pulling originals from paper files.

  ### 32. Very Reliable Docketing System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Our Law Firm has used Foundation IP for about 5 years now. We like how the system tracks references for IDS filings and manages due dates for Intellectual Property.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

An option to chat with a representative of Foundation IP embedded in the interface would be good addition.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

I heard that we chose this product instead of others because we are charged per matter, rather than a lump sum. Thus, when a matter closes we delete the matter in order to save money. However, I have heard this has caused us to pre-maturely delete some matters.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using the system to track Intellectual Property due dates. We are also using it to manage IDS filings. This product has saved us time in not having to generate IDSes manually or docket manually.

  ### 33. New to using FIP

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cindy D. | IP Docketing Specialist, Law Practice, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Although I am new to using FIP, it is very user friendly

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Not able to print a docket report, can't see multiple matters at one time

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Get all the bells and whistles associated with it and offer Free training of the program

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None that I am aware of at this time

  ### 34. Foundation IP User 3+years

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2017

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Foundation IP is a very robust program for tracking and docketing information related to IP Management. After initial period of training, the program does become intuitive. The support team is awesome.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It is not incredibly user friendly and the reporting features are quite difficult to understand.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Take the time to truly work the software and learn it. It has so many features, that it is possible to miss one. I do wish they offered a two day class or online - start to finish - tutorial - Youtube or something.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FIP keeps up to date with country laws of all countries and the response times for various patent prosection deadlines. This takes the burden off the end-user for trying to count months for a response as well as the deadlines. It is also a very complete file information system where various pieces of client information for each patent portfolio can be tracked.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Thanks for the review! We also appreciate our support team.

  ### 35. How did we ever survive without our FIP database??

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I was very pleased with the attention given during the training process and the ability to receive prompt assistance with questions after training. The ease of creating matters and reports is probably my favorite aspects of the software.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

I am very pleased with FIP and do not dislike anything thus far.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

I performed extensive research and this product is a quality product and very competitively priced.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Missed deadlines have been the biggest problem solver and the biggest benefit realized has been the ease of reporting.

  ### 36. best program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristine L. | Patent Assistant, Law Practice, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I like how it's really easy to use and navigate and all the info is clear.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

I don't like that it doesn't list out all the due dates with all the extensions.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeps track all my due dates and the reports are easy to follow.

  ### 37. Overall very useful but user experience needs to be cleaned up

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

It is easy to keep track of various activities for all of our different matters.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It is way to difficult to create new customized reports. Especially since there is no documentation on fip or that I could find on the internet for how to create them from scratch. I had to work backwards from already created reports to sort of learn how to make some changes.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes keeping track of using of all our pending patent cases much easier.

  ### 38. FIP is a great tool for patent law

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The improvement to the bulk import of references is very nice! Just needs to be a little more user friendly. I really like the ability to add notes in the "comments" section in activities tab.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Sending messages from FIP... there needs to be more formatting options and a preview selection. The emails do not look like they do before sending. The formatting seems fine, but after being sent and delivered, the formatting and text is never consistent. Would like more options for global changes.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are in the process of customizing templates which is tedious work, but good that it is that this is possible based on client needs.

  ### 39. Comprehensive IP Docketing OIcketing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Scott C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Foundation IP handles complicated records and portfolios; it produces functional and helpful reports for both internal and external needs.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Trademark reminders do not include application or registration numbers without logging into site.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Foundation IP has strong docketing and reporting functions (internally and with clients). The Foundation IP support function is very responsive and can help with customization needs.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organizes and dockets complicated IP records; provides great client interface

  ### 40. One-stop shop for all matters IP-Legal

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The attention to detail, the rigorous process and the helpful hints on various items and matters of interest.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Sometimes the links become a confusing maze and I get lost...!

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use FIP as our Legal partner for all things IP related such as Patent Filing, Prosecution, and Follow-up.

FIP has served these requirements very well.

  ### 41. Easy to use; intuitive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

FIP is well-organized; deadlines are laid out in clear and easy to understand manner

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It would be great if I had an easier time adding personal notes to FIP without going through an administrator

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use this for patent prosecution needs; it helps me easily understand what deadlines are coming up. I can also easily run reports

  ### 42. Senior IPDocketing Assistant

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Johanna A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I like the fact that this is used as a virtual file and things are stored accordingly.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

It would be nice if global rule changes are made once CPA is notified to ensure accuracy in docketing .

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is a great tool for all in IP to use for all means of communication regarding matters.

  ### 43. Not the user-friendliest product available

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** greg d. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

automated reports and USPTO Access, scraping of USPTO

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

calling the helpdesk for assistance with reports; reports are too complicated to create and there are NO family-related reports that are industry standard with other systems (priority case(s) that mature into families).

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Find a product that has a family-report (priority lineage)

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

easy annuity payment platform

  ### 44. Okay platform, not the most streamlined

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cory W. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

Web based and doesn't require local software

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

A little clunky, especially the sign off process. Website seems slow with a lot of reloading. Can't have more than one foundation IP window up at once or else lose work. Need to do this to copy and paste similar language.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Intellectual property submissions and management.

  ### 45. FIP - Keeping Work Organized

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2017

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

FIP is quick to respond to most queries. Helping to eliminate frustration and lag time.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

FIP needs a place to store company admin files, HR and other notable documents that do not pertain to a particular client or matter. Also make the contacts easier to search.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Pay close attention to the exact details that FIP can provide. We were hoping that it would be good for our billing, but it is unable to meet our needs in this area (we've spoken to a rep), but it is very good for docketing and overall case management.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to store most of the daily needed information and access it easily.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Many thanks for the thoughtful feedback! We will pass these ideas over to our development team. Be sure to check out our Independent User Group and Software Innovation Board if you're interested in sharing more forward-looking ideas.

  ### 46. useful program that's not quite perfect

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

ability to run daily docket reports, ability to enter deadlines easily

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

not always accurate in terms of country rules, does not automatically move deadlines to next business days

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Worthwhile if you run frequent docket reports. Worthwhile for larger practices.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

keeping a docket of thousands of trademarks straight

  ### 47. Foundation IP - Great Docketing System

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sean C. | Prosecution Paralegal and Office Manager, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2017

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

I've been using Foundation IP for about 6 years at my current and previous law firm. It was a little overwhelming at first, but it is very easy to use, and customizable. CPA Global is always coming out with updates to make the docketing experience better.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

There are some line items that seem like they would be an automatic entry, but manual calculation is necessary (expiration dates for U.S. cases). But I have spoken with CPA Global employees, and they are working on making that an automatic entry based on filing dates and PTA. Reports are kind of tough to set up, but once you have one set up, they are very easy to run.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

For the price, I don't think Foundation IP can be beat. The quality of software is great, and pricing is competitive. Their pricing for smaller firms like ours is like a phone plan. You have a certain amount of matters (minutes for phone) with overage if you go over.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the patent business, we deal with many countries having different rules and deadlines. CPA Global does a great job with country laws, making updates when needed, and making sure the deadlines that automatically populate line up with the dates that foreign law firms send out. You can create many different reports (client based, matter based, country based, etc.) that can help decide whether to go out and market for new business. Docketing correctly and making sure deadlines are hit are key to our business, and Foundation IP makes that easy.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Thank you for the thoughtful review Sean!

  ### 48. Great organizational tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Valerie P. | Legal Assistant, Sporting Goods, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2017

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

The ability to search our large database easily.

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

Not knowing how to use all the tools provided.

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Training, utilize it! They are awesome at helping out.

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deadlines will no longer come so quickly. With the docketing feature we can see our deadlines sooner.

**Official Response from Haydn Evans:**

> Many thanks for the review Valerie! We love when we can help our customers.

  ### 49. Excellent product but wish it can efficiently cater to lower volume cases as well

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

the format of the weekly reports and how it includes "reminders" as due dates;
it includes all the required fields and none of the less critical fields;
can play around and get more detail if and when needed

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

cost of using the system is too high if volume of cases is low, so not well suited to solo practitioners that only do limited prosecution

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Takes the worry of missing deadlines away and helps plan my time better

  ### 50. CPA Global and FIP review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about FoundationIP?**

That responsibility for patent maintenance is transferred to CPA Global

**What do you dislike about FoundationIP?**

The time that is needed to transfer the information regarding patent maintenance deadlines

**Recommendations to others considering FoundationIP:**

Ask FoundationIP regarding ease of transferring from another system to FoundationIP

**What problems is FoundationIP solving and how is that benefiting you?**

reduce liability regarding payment of maintenance fees
