Having used IDeaS G2 for a long time I wondered what G3 would bring to the table and naturally SAS IDeaS addressed the shortfalls in G2 combined with advances in the system's algorithms. With SAS analytics having more input into G3 the one fundamentally apparent aspect is how everything in the system is intrinsically linked back to demand and the management of that demand. By changing the focus users think further in advance and include the group strategy. As every action in G3 causes a ripple effect on everything else, users are less inclined to manually override system-generated BAR decisions and use the time to understand in the first instance why G3 is generating that BAR decision. G3 collects data and controls at a more granular level and has the ability to continuously price, yield out dynamic rates and manage to overbook with shifts in demand and continues to integrate and use external rate shopping e.g. OTA Insight. No surprise that how G3 is configured is critical to its success and once each aspect is fully understood, some fairly radical and innovative strategies could be developed and applied. There is hardly anything I dislike about IDeaS G3 RMS and I would recommend it to any brand or independent accommodation provider that has many room classes and room types. G3 configuration deals with the complexities of these with one assumption - that there is demand. We installed G3 into Hotels during COVID and were forced to configure the system in ways that went against best practice until we saw demand return. The drawback is any changes made to the configuration after its been locked down, is the system starts over its learning from scratch and loses any learning once a new config is applied. A development request for G3 if asked today would be to allow configuration to be set as optimal with normal demand patterns and to develop an alternate function to allow switching to a low demand/crisis setting, and back to normal - neither of which loses any learning.
