First and foremost, it saves faculty time and travel expenses for observation purposes - especially for students that have taken durational shortage positions outside of our catchment area. Second, it currently allows up to provide supervision in schools that do not allow visitors due to the pandemic. Third, it allows up to provide meaningful assignments to our students in lieu of field placements (due to the pandemic). Finally, we are able to use it as a platform for conducting departmental interviews virtually. ### 7. GoReact certainly helps with solving that. ### 11. Unlike other video annotation systems, GoReact gives students a timecoded list of my comments. The comments can be text, audio, & movie recordings. It also allows me to upload files as comments, and to use rubrics, and tags (badges) for canned feedback. Regardless of the style of the comment, when a student clicks on it, a juxtaposed copy of their video advances to play from the timecode corresponding to the comment. This saves countless hours of frustration compared with previous approaches where teachers and students had to move back and forth between controlling a video and reading summary comments with time codes. GoReact is the only online software I am aware of that allows me as a teacher to post a video stimulus, to ask students to respond to the stimulus on webcam, and allows the student to submit both the stimulus and their response. Even better, the juxtaposed playback plays the stimulus the same way the student watched it, showing when the student paused or played the stimulus vidoe, while I am watching what they did on the webcam. Becasue the videos are seperate but linked by timecode. I can control things like video size and volume independently. All of this is accomplished through some savvy coding that keeps everything working with surprising reliability. As I watch both videos play in the same way the student recorded them, I can pause both videos at a click of a button, make a comment, then resume playback. The student can watch my feedback as captions below their video or click on a comment to watch the part of the video corresponding to my comment. There are a few video annotation tools out there, but no other product I am aware of can do everything GoReact can. Additionally, GoReact has been able to add very handy features requested by students and teachers. Features such as live feedback options, comment only stimulus assignments, group assignments, screen capture mode, etc.. GoReact is really the only viable tool for interpreter training feedback that allows me to see how the student played the stimulus while viewing their interpretation side by side with the stimulus. Each year GoReact becomes more reliable while still providing ongoing improvements. They constently push what can be done with html and video timing. This means they had to create native htm recording options to replace flash as well. Two big thumbs up for doing all of this in html. The continual improvement approach causes ocational glitches, but their support staff responds quickly to students and instructors. Altogether, we have as few glitches and problems with GoReact's cloud based solution as we did using the best screen capture software installed on our lab computers. However, with GoReact we don't have to worry about scheduling video exports or hosting a local NAS or server to enable secure access outside the lab. In the past, I wanted GoReact to hose stimulus as well so I didn't have to upload it myself, recently publishers have seen the value of allowing GoReact to host their content. This is a win win situation. I suspect to see more content become prepackaged in the future. Definately 5 out of 5 compared to anything else out there. **What do you dislike about Echo360?** The challenges with GoReact are caused by things that make it great. It is a cloud-based web app. They have found a good balance between course management features and the one thing that they do better than anyone else, time-coded video feedback, but it is not a course management system. Grading options are limited. They do offer integrations with Instructure Canvas, but the leading edge options are not always available from the Canvas integration. With GoReact we have to be careful not to schedule more feedback than we are able to provide as teachers. GoReact responded to our plight by provideing tools and tutoriasl on how to reduce feedback time. Because it is cloud-based, students will occasionally encounter issues with the video features. Sometimes the playback of student videos timed with stimulus videos gets out of sync. Most of the time refreshing the web page fixes these issues. Occasionally we need to contact their support team and have someone get things synced properly. However, the rate of problems still is the same or less than solutions installed on desktops. The pay structure can be a challenge for instructors to justify if GoReact is only used for assessments and not for daily assignments. The full set of features are not needed for simple daily video submissions where I would otherwise just give a thumbs up or thumbs down. This is especially the case for ASL instruction and interpreter training because we often get books and online curriculum from small publishers who don't move enough volume to reduce curriculum prices. Asking each student to pay for the service as if they were buying a book is a very sustainable model that lets instructors get started quickly without having to compete with limited program budgets. But, asking students to pay an additional $30.00 per semester is a hard sell if I only use the service for the midterm and the final exam. They have created multi-course and 5-year discount plans for our students who major with us. These students save a lot of money over 5 years of use in many classes. University-wide licensing makes GoReact wonderful for everyone. I would think it would only take a few years of use in a few programs to justify the cost. **What problems is Echo360 solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have saved students a lot of time on a daily basis for far less money than hosting local video servers or NAS systems. In the past, we trained students to use screen capture software installed on our lab computers. This wasn't too bad for short videos, but longer work by advanced students became a problem. Students would interpret a 30 min video, take 30 min to export it, and 10-20 minutes to upload it. We investigate video sharing network storage solutions, but they were too expensive or limited ways students could interact with the videos. The cost of all of our students using GoReact for years was still less than some of the enterprise solutions that allowed us to deal with the file conversion and uploading challenges faced by our students. With GoReact we don't have to worry about batch exports, file sharing rights and access for students vs. teachers, and securing video for use off-campus. GoReact took our wish list for ASL interpreter training and ASL teaching feedback and made it a reality. In some cases, our teachers thought GoReact could do something it wasn't designed to do for interpreting feedback. GoReact designed it so teachers could upload an interpreting stimulus for students to interpret. Teachers assumed students could find a stimulus, upload it, and then interpret it live while recording themselves with GoReact. It wasn't long before GoReact added this feature. We use it to solicit video responses from students. We write English directions or post directions in ASL and students use GoReact to record their responses. We give ASL video feedback on each part of their video. The time-coded feedback lets students compare their work with our suggested changes. We post video files, sound files, and texts for students to interpret from spoken English to ASL or from ASL to spoken Engish. We ask students to record themselves in small groups. We post ASL videos for students to analyze using the comment features. We ask students to interpret something then to critique their own work, and then to critique the work of another student, finally we can add instructor feedback. There is no more flexible or effective tool for annotating ASL videos sent by students. Improved tools and user training videos from GoReact have helped to make more efficient feedback. For example, they created rubrics, badges, and train teachers to help student do intial peer feedback to make instructor feedback more effective. Unlike the many course management features of a Learning Management System, GoReact only uses the tools that help give feedback, so they often work better than comperable features in the LMS used for the class. ### 12.
