**What do you like best about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

I am really trying to push myself to think of positives... I was always able to log in when I needed to, so that's something.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

This is one of if not the most frustrating pieces of software I have ever used. It is outdated and unnecessarily complicated to use, absolutely horrendous customer service, outrageously expensive.

You have to pay for customer service. I am not kidding. I have had multiple issues, and when I try to call for assistance I am literally told that I do not "qualify" for phone support and must use the chat feature. I also don't have access to the chat features, and it has now been more than a week and their "engineering team" is still trying to figure out why I can't access that chat. I was only able to get any support because I finally called their sales line and spoke to a sales rep. 

The functionality of this program is ancient. It's horribly inefficient, not user-friendly or intuitive, and full of redundancies. Running reports is an absolute nightmare, requiring an entire week of training videos to even begin to understand how to do anything useful. It's impossible to even run a basic custom report wihtout hours of research/reading, and that's not an exaggeration. It's impossible. The existing "template" reports might be useful to some organizations, but most of them were worthless for ours. There's also multiple ways to do 1 thing, but if you mix them up you won't be able to pull an accurate report. For example, you can log an in-kind donation by doing A, B, or C, but if you do one donation way A and another way C, then your report will only show one or the other. This means organizations with more than 1 user have to create entirely separate trianing documents or policies in order to have consistent data and useable reports. Just create one standardized way to do the thing that needs to be done. 

It takes months if not years to acutally learn how to use this software correctly, and that's assuming you have hours and hours each week to dedicate to learning this software. And, you are REQUIRED to pay for "Blackbaud University" or whatever they call it now as part of your contract (which is $1,000+), but I've found it's easier and faster to just Google the problem and find the fix from someone else's blog or YouTube videos.

And on top of all of this - this is EXPENSIVE. Thousands of dollars for the service (at the low end of the scale, even), REQUIRED additional fees for payment processing even if you don't take payments through Blackbaud/eTap, REQUIRED additional fees for the "education" portal, locked into a 3-year contract to get "lower rater increases." And with all that, you'll still "not qualify" for phone support.

I think they're trying to be a robust and moderately customizable CRM but it's just too much software with too little support, awful training, and terrible UI.

Blackbaud eTapestry is the worst CRM for a small nonprofit I have worked with directly. There is no area where it stands out in a positive way.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

Service for eTapestry is abysmla, the interface is hard to use and not at all intuitive, they continue to underinvest in modernizing the product, and the pricing is obscene.

Worst of all, when we informed them that we would be moving to a new provider when our renewal came up, they came after us and claimed that we had "agreed to" a 3-year contract. This assertion was based on them emailing a departed employee (who had an auto-reply up) 1 year after they left and claiming that a lack of response locked us into a 3-year term with 7% increase rates.

They are trying to be a fundraising database / CRM for small to mid-size nonprofits.

My executive director seemed to like the financial reporting on the back end.

Blackbaud ETap was not easy to use and utilized the software benefits. The email marketing was outdated. The customer service was poor.

eTapestry has one really strong quality, and that is its customization and cleanup tools. Its functions for creating custom fields and doing mass updates, imports, and cleanups are really strong. There is a lot of room to find and modify data in batches using the mass update and import tools, and fields can be created and adjusted across most aspects of the database.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

eTapestry's biggest flaw is its clunky, hard-to-learn reporting system. Queries and reports are separated, meaning you have to create a query and test it before you can apply it to a report. This is NOT user-friendly in the slightest and often results in a lot of back-and-forth between the query and report screens to try and make the two work well together. Combining queries and getting more complicated information, like year-over-year giving, was nearly impossible to do without at least a year of training and practice.

If you are a small nonprofit looking for an affordable database solution, don't go for eTapestry.

The other flaw of eTapestry is that it is clearly the redheaded stepchild of the Blackbaud family. Speaking with representatives at Blackbaud made it clear that their resources are focused on the much pricier Raiser's Edge. As a result, eTapestry never receives significant updates and feedback on the product is rarely listened to.

The customizability of eTapestry is huge factor in why I like this software. Whether its in organizing goals or arranging reports, this platform allows easy fundraising integration for any nonprofit

eTapestry can be daunting and while Blackbaud's problem resolution articles are helpful, a wider database for tips and help would be ideal.

Our organization has begun to recognize the benefits of eTapestry through its seamless integration with our website and other transaction platforms (Venmo, Paypal). It served us as a solid fundraising database where we can keep track of donors, members, and other affiliates.

eTapestry is customizable and can store a lot of information about donors.  The ability to create custom thank-you letters for donations makes that process easier.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

eTapestry doesn't work with some browsers.  Logging in and setting up an account is unnecessarily frustrating sometimes.  Pulling certain information can be difficult and they charge for assistance.

We use it to track our mailing lists and donations, and to create appeal letters (using a Mail Merge) and thank-you letters.  We run queries to create mailing labels.

hmm, that is difficult.  I like the technical people on the phone.....but I wish the software was more intuitive so that I didn't need to call them so much.

the email interface, the query system which required an advanced degree in applied mathematics to create a resport in, the lack of social media integration, the high price compared to the features the software offers, the lack of accurate donor capacity tools as well as contact info management, the donation form is the worst of any I have ever seen and there is only one that has to be used across all campaigns, maybe this is enough for you to get started on for now.....but believe me there is more.

for us, it is basically a huge excel spreadsheet of our donor information, not interactive, not prescriptive and not even very accurate.......

To me, it seemed that the interface was not user-friendly, and was very "clunky". I found it cumbersome to pull reports, and decipher our own data.

One benefit that I realized was the awareness of our own opportunity and potential for growth. I realized how little I was actually utilizing the services of the database.

**What do you like best about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

eTapestry allows us to track donations, volunteers, and development conversations that are very important to our organization. I can create events and such in eTapestry as well, and have people buy tickets/tables and make donations and it all feeds into eTapestry. The ability to create forms into our website is also a plus.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

The level of security options is lacking. We use eTapestry in our 4 locations, and I wish I could limit each user to their specific location. That is not an option. Also it would be great if eTapestry synced with outlook. Having meetings scheduled right from eTapestry would be a huge plus. An app for eTapestry would be great too, as we are out in the field and being able to click eTapestry on our phones/tablets to update information would be great. eTapestry is also missing Text to Giving.

eTapestry allows us to track development conversations. It allows us to track events, volunteers and donations. The mass email feature is coming along. It isn't there fully - but they are working on it. eTapestry is a huge benefit to Big Table, and our ability to create and maintain relationships.

**What do you like best about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

When i started at my first job they had been using etapestry for a little over a year but not to it's full potential. I took advantage of the free trainings to take full advantage of everything it offered. Whenever I have questions about how to do something support is just a click away and was always very helpful. As a new fundraiser, I was unsure about what some of the built-in reports were and how to use them. After taking the trainings, I was a better fundraiser and able to prove that using the built in reports. (SYBNT, LYBNT, Lapsed, CC Finder/updater, Etc)

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

Because it can be used in different ways, they charge extra for additional aspects of it, like social media finder or peer to peer options. I've also learned Blackbaud charges for some of the training resources and that might not be included for every user. I highly recommend talking with a current user about the migration from your current donor management to Etap, how they've been able to keep data clean, and what they use it for.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

ask them to connect you to a current user and seek out another current user on your own. You can find current users through your local AFP chapter or other fundraising associations.

It's a great way to keep donors and supporters organized so pulling reports is easy. With this, I'm able to see which donors gave last year but haven't given yet this year and focus on cultivating those donors. I'm also able to see which donors have the greatest capacity and affinity using built-in and custom ranks, allowing me to focus my time on those with the most potential to give and not waste time on those who love our mission, but don't have the ability to make a major gift.

Blackbaud has made it extremely easy to transition over to their products. They have a team of people that help get all your information moved over and then test it out before leaving you do it on your own. eTapestry was the exact product we needed to handle our database of donors and to keep track of them over time. We had been using Excel and Google Docs to track everything in the past and that became a nightmare. 

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

So far the only thing that we don't like is that Blackbaud services does not have a text to donate feature. eTapestry itself does not have anything I don't like about it.

We are solving the issues we had with donor retention and time management. It is so much easier now to find donors in our database and we save a lot of time with the features they have involving mailing/emailing.

The best part of eTapestry is that its cloud based, so your database can be accessed from anywhere. It also can be customized to your nonprofit for better user experience. The Blackbaud training community is huge, so getting help with using the product is easy and there are tons of resources from the business itself as well as fellow users in a chat board to ask questions.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

I dislike the fact that there are more customizations in other Blackbaud products than what is incorporated in eTapestry. It works well for small or medium nonprofits but it would show its limitations if it was used by larger nonprofits.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

Just make sure it has all the integrations you are looking for. There are some limitations to the product, but overall it will do a great job with keeping your donor database organized.

eTapestry has the ability to keep addresses cleaned up with AddressFinder, which helps save money with appeals. It also gives a wealth rating on donors so we keep track of who we need to steward. We are in the process of converting our platform to another Blackbaud product, due to ease of use and customization features that the other product offers. We still really like eTapestry, but our organization has outgrown its benefit and we need something that can be used in all areas of our organization. I realized that eTapestry is still one of the better databases for donor management, the reports and queries are easy to create, and working remotely, it has the added benefit of being cloud based.

eTapestry is easy to use, with powerful functions to perform any type of task you'd want from a donor database.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

Like any powerful software, there's a learning curve. If you don't know how the tools function, or how to get the most out of them, you could be doing yourself a disservice by doing things like making mailings harder, exporting the wrong data, entering data in the wrong fields, etc. But eTap is set up pretty well to be able to figure this stuff out without too much trouble. You just have to put in some work at the beginning.

Every nonprofit needs an organized donor database to progress to higher levels of fundraising capabilities. eTapestry is a great tool for nonprofits that want something most users can learn quickly, without a massive cost like some more robust databases. It will help you do useful tasks like automate pledge reminders and prepare donor letters.

It is an easy to use tool. It has a lot useful functionality other than per- like you can create the email and it will fill up the fields automatically which is great. 
Also, it provides you different options for creating different types of reports.

The user interface and the dashboard design could be better. The navigation tabs can be confusing sometimes for the users.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

It is a very useful tool for a small to medium sized nonprofit organization. It has lot of capability but at the same time if they improve some of their features and customer service, then it would be a great tool.

As a small nonprofit organization, it helped us to keep our donors' and volunteers' data and donations history in one place which was very important. At least we know that we have everyone's information in one place, not scattered. That is the crucial part of any business.

I liked how it wasn't so complicated to understand the program. After playing around for a few days, it became easy to use. Another thing to add, the price seemed reasonable for organizations that started small.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

There are some features that need work. For example, I always had problems with the creation/ modification of DIY forms. There were days where I would make a slight change in one of the DIY forms and as soon as I would hit save, it would return back to its original form and instead of approving changes.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

If you work for a small organization (a small donor base), eTapestry is a good program to use. However, keep in mind, as you grow your donor base, you may want a program that has better features that may not be provided by eTapestry (i.e. RasierEdge). Midway of using E-tapestry, if you realize you want a different program, it will be difficult to shift from e-Tapestry to another program... you will have to consider mass export of contacts and move around information to make sure you have all the data included in your newer program.

The former organization I worked with used E-tapestry to enter donations that were received via cheque, cash, and other portals. The benefits were that once the donations were all entered, we were able to retrieve data according to the filters chosen (i.e. which of our donors gave over 50 dollars this year).

Not much, honestly. Maybe that it doesn't crash?

Very hard to use and almost impossible to get support.  The user interface is from the 1990's.  This product is the poor stepsister of the product that they want you to buy, but is very expensive.  No one at the company gives a damn about eTap customers.  The number of times I have gotten the run-around is infuriating.  My contract ends in a few months...and then it is bye-bye Blackbaud.

Go elsewhere.

**What do you like best about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

I liked that eTapestry allowed me to put all my donors' information in one easy place. Instead of having thousands and paper files, I have a software where I can track all their donations and personal information.

The software is also useful for keeping track of how much money one donor has made over the lifetime of their constituency. Being able to have the numbers calculated for you automatically instead and having to manually add up all the check amounts really help in identifying who are your biggest and most loyal donors. 

I haven't tried any other type of fundraising software on the market but I don't really feel like I need to compare them. ETapestry met all of my essential needs for what I did at EL Education. Although I no wonder work at this organization, I am pretty sure that they are still using this software to meet their development needs.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

Although I liked using Etapestry, I do feel like the platform could be made some simpler for people who are not tech savvy. The homepage with all the snapshots can be a bit overwhelming for someone who is not data-driven.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

Take some time to get used to the software. If you are good with computers, it will come to you easy. If you're not, it might take about a week to get a hang of things.

I was mostly using eTapestry to track and add new donations and to make changes to our donor's personal information.

Great dashboard and easy to navigate through. The program is very easy to use and understand for non-technical people with the right amount of training. I enjoyed the dashboard and the various functionalities the program has. I think it is an innovative program that is able to make people understand the key donors the business may have. I think the program's key benefits are the ease of use and its innovative qualities. I found the program very helpful in figuring our who our key donors were.

Needs better training videos and training lessons. This was the only issue I had with the program. The training videos and lessons were not intuitive enough and some of them were easy to just skim over. I feel like the training process needs to be more in depth for non-technical people to understand how best to implement certain functionalities this program is able to bring forth.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

I would recommend this software based on its capabilities in how to address key business problems for non-profit organizations. I have used it at an internship with a non-profit and it took me a few days to understand how to use and I was able to be up and running fairly quickly. The software has many capabilities to serve an organizations needs and it is simple to use for a variety of stakeholders. One of the best things about it is being able to use the software to track donor submissions as it is fairly easy to understand who our most valuable clients are and where we should be focusing our efforts. I believe the way this program integrates with our key business objectives makes it an ideal program to use. I recommend that people who use eTapestry spend time understanding it's intricacies to better understand how to implement the software in their own organizations as it has many functionalities which we did not use at the non-profit I was at, but it had the capability of being a lot more. I recommend taking time to fully immerse yourself into the teaching and understanding where it will work best in your business as it is a very powerful tool to use whether at a non-profit or at a small-medium business. Learn where it can be implemented best.

Managing clients and contact information for non-profit work. Simple and streamlined process. It is easy to figure out our most valuable clients to help understand where we should focus our efforts. The non-profit where I used it was able to use it as a form of contact-tracing to understand our highest donors and we were able to reach back out to them to maintain a connection. I enjoyed using the program at my previous non-profit as I was able to really understand how the program works to enhance our client experiences and how it provides key information to us when we are trying to understand our donors.

**What do you like best about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

I like that's its a basic database that addresses all the fundamental needs of a start-up or small non-profit.  I began using it in 2007 when I started working at a non-profit raising 500K annually.  I had the fortunate experience of going through a week long Raiser's Edge course the year before.  It was fairly easy to translate the information and look for ways to use Etapestry to achieve similar results.  Of course, it didn't have all the bells and whistles, but it had everything we needed to keep accurate data of our donors to print accurate reports, send timely thank you letters, track donor relationship with us over time, and collect all the relationship data we wanted to store.

**What do you dislike about Blackbaud eTapestry?**

The capability to track mailings was limited at the time.  There was no way to create any sort of track to place donors on to cultivate them.  There comes a point as the non-profit grows that you require more advanced functions.  It was great for all we needed it for till we wanted to track more.

I am no longer using eTapestry as I moved on from this position in 2016.

I had an excellent experience using eTapestry! I found it to be user friendly, intuitive, and overall a great resource for our non-profit. Two features I liked the most were that we were able to look up how much we fundraised through each individual fundraiser and that eTapestry would alert us when we were at risk of creating a duplicate donor record. Overall, a positive experience!

The only downside I can remember were that eTapestry would not recognize typos or misspellings when looking up records. This would overall slow down the process of inputing data and a change to this would make the process of using eTapestry more streamlined.

I initially loved eTapestry and found that we were able to build a platform with the components that fit our needs.

Over time, eTapestry no longer allowed us to build our platform based on our needs but rather, they forced us into packages that were expensive and unneeded and put us in a contract.  As a not-for-profit, our goal is to  keep our administrative costs low so that we can pour our fundraising dollars back into our programs and services, not into the hands of eTapestry's parent company, Blackbaud.

There is no longer a benefit to us and once our contract is up in July, we will no longer retain this CRM.

The most helpful tool in Etapestry is the ability to pull a report based on specific field that you want information for and be able to come up with clear reports and data for presentation. It helped me with tracking sponsorships for my non-profit and allowed us to handle all the interactions we had with donors.

The least helpful tool about Etapestry was the fact that since our softwares were not compatible for automation, we had to manually enter data. This process proved to be very time consuming and ineffective for us.

I like that it track our donor payments and helps us send out end of the year giving statements.  Its also helpful with some reports and that is can update addresses from the usps.

I don't like that you can't tag certain gifts with more than 2 tags.  Its hard to drill down to the data sometimes because if you work too quickly it will kick you out of the program all together.  Also, their chat support usually sends you to their help database which defeats the point of having a customer support chat feature. Also, the login has gotten harder!

I would only recommend them if you are small and you don't want to have pull reports for development purposes.

I'm not a fan of eTapestry, but  its best feature is the "Relationships" feature. As most board members, they serve as a fundraisers. Therefore, it is very useful to track the number of people they bring over the year(s). This feature has helped us to add a personal touch to our communications, and assess whether board members met their board expectations.

Each time I try to run a report, I get a headache. At glance, the software seems easy to use. However, once I try to pull a report, I don't get what I need. Many steps to follow, so I feel I'm wasting my time. As part of the Development Team, donor reports are essential, so this is something that need to be improved! I'm still relative new to this software, I tried customer support, but they weren't helpful either.

eTapestry can be customized to a great degree and can grow with an organization's work/team. The subscription level module by amenity and not user count also makes it more affordable than many other options.

Sometimes the software does not do simple, common sense things very plainly put. For example, you can run a compound query for items that meet multiple sets of criteria, but you can't run a simple exclusion query, you have to run a compound query that excludes the second query's results. This can be confusing, cumbersome and time consuming.

**Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud eTapestry:**

+ Use chat support to get transcripts of the instructions they give you and copy/paste into your user manual or data entry rules/standards
+ Do NOT give everyone free range permissions to delete information or merge accounts until the rules are implemented fully and you have a good idea of your process for different data processing pieces
+ Have a backup administrator. Do NOT try to be the only admin, you'll go crazy and be overwhelmed.

Constituent management, volunteer management, gift management, network management, and constituent engagement. Additionally, this is our first organization-wide database, so it's great to have a centralized location to store important information about various constituents/groups that everyone can access. We also like the ability to make certain pieces of information private (e.g. donations, background check results, etc). Lastly, the customization capabilities have helped us to track information we hadn't thought to track before.

eTapestry is an acceptable database for small, lower-income nonprofits seeking to save costs but use a tool that gathers and organizes donor information.

eTapestry is very limited on customization options for donation forms, is not very intuitive if you aren't used to donor queries, and isn't designed well.

If your CRM priority is to locate all your donors in one place with minimal integration into other platforms for the lowest cost possible, go with eTapestry.

If your CRM priority is to increase your ability to add customization and branding to your online giving platforms and integrate aesthetically well into your other online presences (Facebook, website, email server), spend more money on Classy or a similar CRM.
