What do you like best?

Before implementing, we were investigating phishing incidents between 1 and 3 times per week. After implementing, the number of incidents has been reduced to about 1 per month. We've seen a significant improvement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I know Area 1 is working on it, but I would like to be able to run more thorough investigations within the platform like pulling email headers and being able to see delivered email as it relates to blocked email. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you're struggling with phishing and BEC in your organization, whether you're using native tools or another specialized product, give this a try. Phishing and BEC are the number 1 problems we're solving with Area 1, both internally and for our customers. The native capabilities of Gsuite and O365 just aren't there, so having something like Area 1 in place has been a huge benefit to reducing risk and increasing productivity. What do you like best?

Area1 detects complex threats like malicious binaries inside password-protected archives.

The interface is very intuitive. API capabilities are rich. The detection to noise ratio is great.

The subject line and email body modification proved to be very useful in order to notify end users about the detected threats. It's very easy to deploy protection for new domains.

Business Email Compromise capabilities are rich. Area1 easily integrates with GSuite directory to detect BEC attempts against any member of the org. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Price model. Not all features are supported with GSuite.

We decreased the number of phishing and spam messages getting into the inbox almost to 0.

The intuitive interface helped the SOC team to lower time to react and improve overall KPI.

Full email headers and email rendering improve the quality of the SOC analyst's decisions.

What do you like best?

Besides the detections around phishing & other malicious activities, one feature that might not be the selling point but its still really useful is the ability to cache the emails if the main provider goes down, that way you don't lose that traffic.

Defanging urls & being able to add a message to the body of the email to ensure proper communications with users is also really nice to have.

For the MSSP side, multi tenant which was added a few months back was and is super helpful and we are glad it was added this fast and that we were able to be amongst the first to try the feature.

What do you like best?

Short implementation, great dashboard that allows you to easily see phishes being blocked. Pricing model is a no brainer as you only pay per phish caught up to the cap in the contract. Has been a great experience since we implemented a year ago. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Our website gets a lot of traffic and because of that we get tons of phishing emails. Our workforce has been trained on phishing emails but a lot of time forgets and we've had a few scares that luckily were caught in time. The extra attention around supply chain compromise. Detections of the BEC Type 3 where email threads are hijacked were mostly detected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Initial setup was extremely easy for us as it required very little changes to mail flow. We are leveraging Area1 in BCC mode, so all we had to do was configure our SEG to forward copies of external emails to an Area1 mailbox and we were set. There are additional features/capabilities from the portal that we are still working through (i.e. SSO for user logins) or that we have yet to explore (SIEM integration), but everything else was setup within an hour, which was great.

Also, Area 1 is pretty much set and forget for us, so it doesn't add a lot of overhead from an administration standpoint. The email analysis results are also within minutes which allows us to quickly take action on any delivered phishing emails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

We've spent a couple months trying to setup Single Sign On (SSO) for user logins to the platform, and have still not figured it out. It's been a little frustrating.

While the platform is fairly intuitive and self explanatory, Area1 does not have much to offer documentation-wise. I have not seen an Admin Guide, SSO setup guide, or other than would be helpful to keep or share with colleagues as a reference.

It would also be great if we could specify which type of alerts each webhook is able to receive. For example, if we're only interested in Malicious email notifications, it would be great if we could set it to such rather than using a mailbox rule to filter all the notifications for us. Area1 offers various deployment modes, make sure you understand each well and choose the one that is right for your environment. Also, if Single Sign On (SSO) is an important feature for you, validate that Area1 supports your identity provider. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Area 1 has been a great addition to our phishing defense-in-depth controls. Area 1's solution currently sits behind our SEG and is set in BCC mode. It's purpose is to provide a second level of analysis and verification on any emails that were not filtered by our SEG. Through the use of alert webhooks, Area 1 has helped us gain visibility into the delivery of phishing emails that we might have otherwise been unaware of and more quickly remove those emails from user mailboxes. Additionally, Area1 has been able to highlight and allowed us to fix various misconfigurations in our SEG's filtering policies. Due to it's placement behind our SEG, we are able to use Area1 as a third party validation/health check of our SEG's security configuration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It just works. Implementation is so straightforward. They don't try to do too much or overburden with lots of rule sets. Best of all, bad inbound mail is drastically reduced and suspicious mail is appropriately marked up and/or defanged.

What do you dislike?

Some false positives and some false negatives. This is inevitable in a phishing filter. If it were possible, I'd love to see metrics on false positives, false negatives, and a competitive benchmark. Really ups the signal to noise ratio. Frees us to dig on real problems and ignore crap. Feed back from our users to Area1 systems could be smoother. What do you like best?

The best is simple. We are seeing less and less phish in our mailboxes. Support is really good at responding and updating their policies when new phish come out. Many times the emails will trigger signatures that don't clearly convey the threat. I've not seen a concise knowledge base or guide to what some of these signatures mean. Area 1 Security has been protecting our organization for almost 2 years now. As our security team has grown, Area 1 has been our partner. They assist us in integrations with new tools, as well as keeping us abreast of any new features they come up with. The biggest problem that Area-1 solves for me is Business Email Compromise, that is when malicious actors are spoofing our C-level employees and making email requests appear to come from them. While we do regular training so that employees know how to spot such an email it is even better when you know you have a tool that prevents it in the first place.
