I worked at an AI tech startup that used Linear for all of its project management, and it was great for organizing our work. I liked that we could make tickets for anything, and the section for comments helped a lot, especially with its integration with GitHub. I could push and make comments directly to show my teammates using the magic word commands, and they could leave comments on my git that I could see in our Linear. I liked how simple it was; there was no onboarding needed, it was very intuitive and easy to get started. The free plan was robust; we ran our entire startup off of it, and there was never a need to pay for the full version. I used the 'make a ticket' feature the most, along with the comments section to keep up with everything. The magic words got confusing, and I didn't know the exact purpose for some of them. The structure for the magic words was just confusing and unexplained, so we just used them however we wanted. It would be easier if there was an explanation of what each magic word did, and if the magic words could pop up in Git. I had to type them in myself, unlike in Git where you might get a label pop-up. I think earlier their mobile app, at least the iOS app, was not that good. I haven't used it since, but my experience from at least six months ago was not positive. Apart from that, Linear has not very good analytics or reporting capabilities. I love that all the conversation can happen off Linear as well, like in Slack, so I don't have to leave Slack to update things or open new ones. From Slack, we can open different types of tickets that are then assigned and filed based on predefined Linear workflows. This greatly speeds things up on our end, as there's no context switching. One limitation I’ve felt is with epics management. Currently, epics feel too lightweight—I’d love the ability to create a full-fledged epic structure, where I can build modules inside an epic, and within those, create tasks and subtasks. This would allow more depth and hierarchy in planning complex projects.
