Open broadcaster is a powerful piece of software for doing streaming and screen recording. I can now do quite complex live screen recordings and UI demonstrations quickly. I now use the software every couple of weeks. I can easily integrate different video sources and automatically switch between different 'scenes' by browsing around my computer. Quite a steep learning curve as this is unlike other software it isn't the easiest to use. It took a while to understand how the interface works and what you can do with it. OBS does a lot of things well, but it truly is the most dependable RTMP streaming encoder that I've ever used. It's free, it's full-featured, it offers fantastic diagnostic data, and (despite the general perception to the contrary) it's actually very easy to learn and to teach. Writing from the perspective of someone who has served thousands of streaming venues in all shapes and sizes: money spent making OBS run better will have a better ROI than money spent on a hardware encoder, 100% of the time in my experience. The only ways in which I believe OBS really needs to improve are in:

- offering native support for multiple simultaneous outputs

- offering real-time telemetry graphs and better telemetry for SRT streams

OBS is extremely easy to install and set up, which is a big relief for IT professionals like me, who often struggle with software installations. The best part is that OBS is free, so my company doesn't have to spend money on screen capture software. I can use OBS to capture audio, video, gaming, displays, texts, and more.
