## OBS Studio Reviews
 ### 1. The best option to record my screen

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ANDRES FELIPE A. | Tecnologo en Telematica, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

What I like about Open Broadcaster Software is the ease with which I can record my screen with very good quality. Additionally, I like the ease with which screenshots can be taken and customized. It also allows working with multiple sources, mixing them, and creating a perfect broadcast. Completely intuitive and easy to use. OBS is a fantastic utility for any screen capture needs, whether for creating tutorials, recording webcam or external camera video with overlay, recording, or capturing multiple sources. The scene/profile management is a lifesaver. The ability to use keyboard shortcuts is something that is greatly appreciated.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

It is not possible to link to an audio file as a source. Also, it has a slightly high RAM consumption when making recordings. I didn't like the interface when I looked at it for the first time. I also didn't like that there is no possibility to do live streaming with other people in different locations with OBS.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Being a free tool saves us from having to pay for similar software, and the software is well-known and widely adopted.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OBS Studio gives me the opportunity to create captures in the form of tutorials both in video and images that I can share with my colleagues. Being an OpenSource tool, it saves us from having to pay for software that can do the same.

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2020

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I like that OBS is a free software program.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

Manipulating graphics on the fly during a live stream is not as intuitive as other paid programs, but keeping it simple solves that problem.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Keep your broadcasts simple. Don't try to do anything too complex, or your quality will be diminished. Although you can do a lot with OBS, you shouldn't try to push it to the limit. If you want more complex broadcasts, invest in software you have to pay for. Also, learn quick ways to recover, such as transforming your scene/shot back to full canvas.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use OBS to quickly make tutorials for my team and sometimes to connect to other programs as a Virtual Webcam which allows for graphics manipulation and multiple "scenes" amping up my live streams to be more engaging.

**Reviewed by:** Hamzeh B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2020

 ### 10. Tons of Customization, Daunting for Beginners

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew U. | Director of Technology, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

There are so many available options in OBS that you can really dial in exactly what you want. Plugins galore thanks to the open nature of the product and a huge community of users at both the novice and professional level. There are a ton of uses for OBS outside of their bread and butter live streaming.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

There is a steep learning curve to master the program. Unless you have a good understanding of the equipment you are using there could be one or two settings that could make the difference in horrible performance to smooth running. This is not a ready made program out of the box. You will need to setup all of your settings one by one and you will likely not get it right the first time. A lot of guess and check mixed with trial and error.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Take the time to really understand what CODEC and encoder/decoder you have available to you given your hardware specifications.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Over the course of 30+ years our company has amassed a sizable collection of VHS tapes. As part of the transition to the cloud we needed to be able to digitize these ancient, but informational presentations. OBS allowed us to grab a USB device feed from a VCR and made the process simple. We've also use it for screen recording software to create visual tutorials for IT documentation as well as how-to's for office and field staff.

No, which users may have problems with configuring this solution.

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

It's Open Source, free, lot of plugins and Great community.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

It's the perfect tool for anyone teaching anything online, combining many sources, mics, cameras, etc.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need a free software to capture my screen and do some live streaming of tutorials, tutorial videos, interviews, etc. OBS was the perfect fit for everything i need. It's like having the power of a "Tv station" in your hands for live streaming/capturing video, webcam, adding graphs, overlays, etc.

 ### 13. Open Broadcaster Software - A simple way to record a screen

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah H. | Network Control Support Specialist , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

OBS Studio is a powerful platform for recording and streaming multimedia, distributed on an open source basis. It is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS platforms. Obs is easy to use. It has many useful functions. The settings at first glance look inconspicuous, but are balanced by ease of use and modern functionality. The program also includes extensive settings for weaker computers, which allow high quality video transmission without the problems associated with the execution of the process. You can add a desktop capture device to the live menu.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I have not found any disadvantage in OBS except the fact that the learning curve of OBS may be a bit steep.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Using OBS is certainly recommended to those looking for a program that allows you to capture the image, the more so that OBS is available completely free of charge.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

 ### 14. Great screen capture software for jobs you need done well

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bobbye O. | Crime Scene Technician, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I like that I can specify what I want to capture, whether it be one of my many screens, or just one operating window. I like that it saves the video in a playable format so I can send it from one agency to another and count on the ability of that agency to not only watch it, but also play it in court and count on it working.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

It can be a little bit complicated. Obviously, I like the versatility of the software, but that can be a double-edged sword since the options create complication. I will accept this drawback knowing there are plenty of tutorials available because I enjoy the perks.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Look up tutorials and utilize help to get started, once you are up and running, it is fairly simple and very well-done.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do some advanced evidence analysis, mapping digital forensics in programs that few people have available to them. This makes it difficult to communicate what I found when I can't call the investigator to my desk and go over my findings. This tool, however, allows me to record myself walking through the data so I can send that to the investigator to help them understand. It has become invaluable to my work.

 ### 15. OBS - professional utility for streamers and video makers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert Y. | Freelance, Printing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

We are all people and love to have a good time outside of work. And one of the most popular holidays today is passing games / games with friends in online shooters, etc.
I, by virtue of my love for video games, have already gotten the handle of getting out of the most difficult game situations and pulling my team to victory.
Often you want to record your cool game moments that would show off them in front of friends.
Since the direct competitor - Bandikami - is not quite suitable for recording games (the video is hard and not clear), I had to look for an alternative.
The first liked OBS. His advantages caught my eyes instantly:
- High customization of the recordable window: input and output resolution, auxiliary labels and overlays
- Hot keys that will help in a couple of clicks to start recording video
- The main advantage that gives the program in front of its competitors is the possibility of broadcasting video content directly to YouTube or Twitch with different settings.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

Like its competitor, the record can be buggy and intermittent. How to fix it - I have not found it yet, but most likely the problem lies in my computer (His old hardware)

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

-

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Any.
I just broadcast and record my playthroughs for my own pleasure.

 ### 16. Stunning Live Streams

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan B. | Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

Live Streaming of content become a trend in the last few years and there are a lot of advantage for live streaming in platforms like youtube where it increases the ranking of the video and make your company more popular, that's how I come into live streaming and obs is one of the options I saw while trying to get into it. basically, Open Broadcast Software, commonly called OBS is free to use which makes it the ideal option for any creator. the documentation is great and detailed it. the options aren't actually that confusing that even i, who need a lot of time to learn new things got working with the software in less than an hour. OBS is really easy to work with, you can add many types of content to your live stream like camera stream, videos, images, even websites which gives the user lots of options to play around. it supports lots of platforms to stream to, for example in case of youtube you can just add the stream code into the application and it does everything else that needs to be done. you also have many options to work around like advanced resolution control. audio control, media looping and its really an handy tool.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

there is no dedicated support team and if you need help it may take some time before you actually get it.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

OBS if absolutely free to use and there is no reason why youre not taking advantage of this wonderful tool.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OBS is a live streaming software, its free to use and got lots of features to help you create great live streams.

 ### 17. Worked great... sometimes.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Music | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

OBS is great when it works, I love the way you can easily see what’s up next to be broadcast and at the push of a button you are throwing that next scene out to the platform (YouTube, Chaturbate, Stitch, etc). OBS made setting up the stream relatively hassle free.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I’m not sure if my version was just corrupted but sometimes certain things like text would just randomly disappear from the broadcast window, even if no button was pushed. If it was an elaborate scene, it would take rebuilding that entire scene and placing the elements back into the scene from scratch and while broadcasting live that was a major pain.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Again as I always say, my suggestion would be to download it and try it for yourself.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were looking for software to let us stream live to different services and OBS was one we were turned on to by a colleague. We didn’t realize many benefits as the problems definitely outweighed the good.

 ### 18. Open Broadcaster Software - Opinion

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julien D. | MEDIA STUDIES OFFICER , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

OBS can be a great computer program that provides the ability to perform online transmissions and recordings. The most significant advantage is that it is entirely free.
It has a useful function when recording live broadcast, I can record for later use, for example, for a movie. I also appreciate its inexhaustible computer alternative, thanks to which we can set to more or less use the processor. The operation is fundamental, there are also numerous instructional exercises, instructional exercises, from which you will learn how to solve specific problems.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

One of the drawbacks is the fact that the card starts to work hard, which in some models causes the cooling, which in the case of not closed housing can be heard quite clearly. The image obtained from the card (with and without scaling) seems to be more "PIXELOVAY"

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

If you like to make recordings or broadcast online, OBS will be a great alternative to developing your interests. It is worth to try your hand at it, does not charge any fees, is entirely free.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main advantage is the ability to see people in real time. Transmission and recordings encourage communication. Such materials are appreciated, thanks to this form of communication we collect more customers, the company becomes more well-known.

 ### 19. Open Broadcast Software: Fast, easy, and free, with a catch

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Skylar B. | Skylar Brown, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2019

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

Open Broadcast Software (OBS) allows us to livestream commercials for our new albums and songs on Facebook Live, Twitch, YouTube, and other livestreaming platforms. With a stream key, OBS can channel video and audio to a professional page, making it easy for us to promote our titles and get more views. OBS also allows looping videos, to stream to services for as long as four hours of unattended streaming at a time!

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

While OBS holds the feature to stream prerecorded messages on loop, Facebook doesn't allow OBS to loop prerecorded video. When we do decide to stream prerecorded video, it has to be a four hour long video, and the title in Facebook Live must note that it is prerecorded. It can't be a third-party ad either. Also, most computers can't run OBS unless you have a dedicated graphics card with drivers, or if you change the frame rate to 10fps and the resolution to approximately 950px.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

When using Open Broadcast software, make sure that you have a very good graphics card and the right drivers for that graphics card. The Mac system only use software encoding; if you want hardware encoding, you have to boot into Windows and install the necessary drivers to work with OBS! Also, if you use software encoding, be sure to change the framerate to 10fps and make the resolution lower for best functionality.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With OBS, we are solving the problem of not enough views on our Facebook page. OBS uses Facebook Live, which notifies all followers of our videos, giving us more exposure and potential buyers of our albums. This allows us to also raise funds for new albums by accepting patreon donations within the live video itself! OBS can be managed with TeamViewer so that we can go about our day, refreshing the feed when 4 hours have passed.

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I like the updates and compatibility. It is basically the industry standard. Most sites are compatible with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software,) so it makes using it across various sites smooth. Once I had figured out how to set up and link to a 3rd party scene, my experience was immensely better. There are many tutorials out there, that talk about setting up your OBS stream. So that makes it easier to use than some of the less popular options.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I prefer Streamlabs OBS for it's library of free templates and ease of use for beginners. This software does work great. If you have a personal set of stream scenes, or link to a 3rd-party one, it does preform perfectly. I just prefer the ease of use of Streamlabs, for adjusting scenes on the fly.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Figure out your scenes first. Watch tutorials for importing scenes into OBS (Open Broadcaster Software.) It will help you immensely when it comes time to set up your stream.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I stream to my audience with this software. It allows me to stream my game capture, webcam, music, party chat, etc. Once you are more familiar with streaming and setting up scenes, it becomes easier to use. It allows you to set up alerts and notifications as well. I like that OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is the most frequently used OBS, and works well across several different platforms. There is support for many side programs as well.

 ### 24. Functional, Powerful, Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I've used this software both personally in live streaming and professionally as a capture program. Professionally, OBS is phenomenal. You have the full ability to control exactly what you're capturing, and it can be arranged and configured exactly how you'd like. Personally, the program is equally strong. The program's "Free" status makes it highly appealing both in business and personal use, and live streaming through OBS is as easy as knowing the target server, stream key, and setting up your device to display.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

The only frustration I've experienced with OBS is not even necessarily to the fault of OBS: it doesn't always play nicely with antivirus software. Bitdefender is the biggest known clash that I've both experienced personally and read online in several forums.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

I highly recommend looking through the OBS forums, FAQ, and other users' examples and posts to get an idea of the full extent of OBS's capabilities. There are numerous ways to integrate with other services (e.g. StreamLabs) and streaming services (e.g. Twitch, YouTube), and integrating overlays is simple and intuitive.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I was looking for live-streaming software, my greatest considerations were (1) price, (2) ease of use, (3) reliability, and (4) diverse customization options. OBS has met and exceeded all of these expectations. No price tag means testing and using without spending a dime. OBS is incredibly simple to use, and whenever you're lost, their FAQ and forums are fantastic resources. OBS's support is fantastic, and they're incredibly transparent about current issues, bugs, and intended fixes/upgrades. Finally, OBS allows me to display and integrate any files, programs, or widgets that I need, allowing me confidence in creating my own personal brand and feel when live-streaming or recording.

 ### 25. The worst software in history

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Siriö A. | CEO, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

It does not have anything good. I suggested a function in the "community" forum and they blocked me, they are censors and when I ask for explanations in social networks they block me, they are terrorists and they do what they want, without listening to the community. Everyone uses it for being free, but it gives a lot of problems and is not recommended at all, I personally forbid its use.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

- It is unstable.
- Break the recording
- Consumes more than 3GB RAM when recording
- The longer you record the more CPU consumes
- In the forum they are censors.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Stop using it and change to a better one like Streamlabs.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a shit, they should delete it from the map and stop using it.

 ### 26. Most versatile open-source broadcasting software out there!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | Salesforce Developer | Boomi Integration Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I love the granular control you can get using OBS. I create professional video overlays and transition animations for online podcasts and streamers. The use of layering allows me to organize and setup complex overlays easily. I love the new features being added as well, the ability to add custom scripts to add automation to different events opens up limitless posibilities. I love the audio control, being able to export multiple layers of audio on your video files so that they are easy to edit later. I love the audio ducking feature which allows you to tie in music or other sound FX to your microphone so that when you talk the volume automatically decreases on the peripheral sounds.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I really don't have much to dislike. There is a learning curve, but for someone like me that enjoys tinkering around with the settings and can learn software like this quickly I'm just happy to have a free option to reliably stream. I've had occasional crashes but those weren't limitations of the software, but merely the bandwidth of my PC/network.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

The software is well known and widely adopted. Look on youtube for tutorials getting set up. There are endless amounts of youtube videos detailing different techniques to use in your recordings and highlighting features.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been able to use OBS studio reliably to create video tutorials for clients, demos of the content I create and live stream professional looking podcasts. It's also easy to edit videos later for youtube content. Scenes are easily adaptable and you are able to set multiple profiles and scene collections to meet different marketing needs/messaging. This software allows you to quickly adapt your video recordings to the situation with a pretty intuitive interface.

 ### 27. Quick Solution to a Streaming Problem

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lorena R. | Owner, Health, Wellness and Fitness, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I like that the software is pretty easy to navigate once you jump in and get going.
I like having the options that are available to me with social media with OBS. Being able to reach more people at one time and giving them advance notice has been a game changer!
Everything works in layers, making the process smoother.
Also, it’s free!

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I didn’t like how overwhelming the control board was, when I first looked at it.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Give yourself time to get the software set up and to play around with what you are broadcasting, if you are new to streaming or sharing.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

OBS makes it easy for the whole team to set a reminder and click right into the live broadcast.
I can connect with people in different communities all at once, live.
I save money by using this free software.
I like being able to add multiple inputs for either audio or video for streaming.

 ### 28. Open Broadcaster Software is great for YouTube live steams

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth P. | Web & Media Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

OBS is a great program at a great price (free). The best thing about it is its flexibility, I can do a live stream on YouTube and have it look however I want. I can put a logo over my video, show any window on my computer, and do it at the same time as you see the video from my camera.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I have not yet figured out how to do a live stream with other people in other locations with OBS.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

Spend some time researching how to best use this program. There are some things that are confusing about it but there is a lot of great information about how to use it on the internet, especially great tutorial videos on YouTube about it.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using OBS to do YouTube live streams from my computer and I want to use something more flexible than Google Hangout. OBS has solved that problem on my current budget of no dollars.

 ### 29. OBS is great!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam M. | QA Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

I use OBS personally and as well as work related. It captures the screen well and you are able to customize many things within OBS.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

I wouldn't say that OBS is user friendly because I had a hard time figuring it out myself. There's a lot of things you need to change within the settings especially when it comes to lag and network. I had to do a few workarounds myself.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great screen casting and capturing software. Its stable for computers with the basic graphics.

 ### 30. Great for many different recording devices.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

This software gives you the opportunity to record high quality sound recordings- so long as you have some kind of microphone input. I do not recommend recording straight from the device where the application is running.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

It can be tricky to make sure all of your settings are correct based on the input, but that is where online forums and tutorials come in handy!

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

If you take the time to research how this program works, you should have no issues with creating high quality content.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using this software, my business was able to record our own radio advertisements. We were able to record video and audio separately, so we now have "commercials" as well. This would not have been possible had we gone into a studio to record, nor would we have the creative freedom to mix the radio spots ourselves.

 ### 31. Desktop Capture & Streaming Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jaime K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2018

**What do you like best about OBS Studio?**

Open source platform. Completely intuitive and user friendly. OBS is a fantastic utility for any screen capture needs, whether for crafting tutorials, recording webcam or external camera video with overlay, multi-source recording or capture. Scene management/profiles are life saving. Plugins, tools and scripts add a ton of utility. OBS also has excellent guides available in the website forum, an incredibly helpful community on a whole.

**What do you dislike about OBS Studio?**

Can take a bit of work to setup compression profiles and tweak bitrate for streaming platforms. Can suffer performance hiccups with poor optimization. Had occasional bugs with new builds but more irritating issues than software breaking.

**Recommendations to others considering OBS Studio:**

OBS has become the defacto for live game streaming for a reason, but uses and capabilities of the software far exceed that usage.

**What problems is OBS Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most useful benefit for me so far has been in creating tutorials for toolsets for 3d applications and walking clients through backend CMS management and blogging in WordPress themes. Streaming for entertainment has also been stellar, my favorite of all the video capture and streaming applications.
