“Synchronized Security on Sophos XGS: Instant Threat Isolation and Simple RED VPN Setup”
What do you like best about Sophos Firewall?

The best part of running Sophos firewall is the Synchronized Security ecosystem via Sophos central if you use their endpoint protection alongside the firewall the security heartbeat feature a massive time-saver If a user download something nasty and their mac gets infected the firewall catches the red status heartbeat and instantly cuts them off from the rest of the local subnets and VLANs before it can spread laterally. you don't have to manually scramble to trace the MAC address and shut down the switch port while an outbreak is happening.

the web interface is visually clean and having the control center dashboard

map out active threats, live traffic spikes and unclassified applications right when you log in gives a great high-level health snapshot also setting up site to site VPN tunnels using their RED (Remote Ethernet device) protocol for our smaller branch offices was surprisingly simple- pretty much zero-touch provisioning compared to the usual tedious IPsec configurations on older appliances. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Sophos Firewall?

The local web admin console can get a bit sluggish when you're parching through deep packet inspection logs or modifying heavy firewall rules during peak traffic hours the UI spins for a second or two too long through to be fair, they've optimized the backend speed quite a bit in the recent v20 firmware updates so its's getting better.

Also troubleshooting complex policy inheritance can turn into a minor headache forcing you to dig through the log viewer in a separate pop-upwindow. it feels a bit clunky at first but once you get used to the search syntax and filters within the log viewer you can usually track down the conflicting rule pretty fast we also viewer you can usually track down the conflicting rule pretty fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Sophos Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?

We replaced a fragmented mess of standalone firewalls and unmanaged edge device across our locations. Sophos completely solved our visibility problem.

the biggest benefit is having a single, unified plane of glass is the cloud to push network policies manage we interface filtering, and handle SD-WAN routing without needing a massive team to oversee it. It has given us way tighter control overshadow IT and unauthorized VPNs or torrenting on the corporate network because the Xstream DPI engine actually categorizes evasive apps by their behavior rather than just guessing by the port number it makes life easier IT team because we aren't chasing ghosts the logs tell us exactly who what and where a threat is origination. “Extensive Network Traffic Visibility That Simplifies Log Analysis and Policy Updates”
What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?

Most of my work with the Check Point Next Generation Firewalls involved analyzing firewall logs, verifying security policies following infrastructure changes, and examining traffic within, outside, and across the network.

One feature that came in particularly handy was having detailed information for any connection that was blocked. Rather than just getting information about the source and destination, I was able to examine the traffic at the application level to see which services and protocols were causing the traffic. In the context of policy changes or adding new apps, this allowed me to make sure that there wasn't any unnecessary exposure while retaining necessary business traffic.

Checking hit counts and ensuring that traffic was behaving as expected after making policy changes was also an important task. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?

The more that firewall policies increase in number, the more difficult their management will become. It is necessary to perform careful validations when making changes to such rules since their order and inspection modes will determine whether or not traffic will be treated correctly by firewalls.

Finally, I recall dealing with issues involving legitimate traffic whose treatment changed upon modifications made to the policies. It is hard to predict how such policies will interact if they are managed by several people from various departments.

Additionally, it can be problematic to maintain clean policies in the long run if their regular checks are neglected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?

The use of NGFWs allowed for greater scrutiny based on traffic characteristics rather than the older method where traffic filtering was mainly based on port-based firewalls that had little insight into how applications were behaving. Any troubleshooting related to traffic access problems would involve collecting information from various systems.

Using Check Point’s NGFWs allowed for more efficient traffic inspection and policy management. This resulted in a higher level of scrutiny of traffic and better environment isolation. It also minimized the time needed to look into any suspicious traffic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

SP
“Easy, Zero-Trust Secure Access with Simple User Management and Reliable Performance”
What do you like best about NordLayer?

What I like best about NordLayer is how easy it makes secure access for teams. It doesn't feel like a traditional VPN that needs a lot of setup and maintenance. Things are clean and straightforward. The user management is very simple. Adding users, assigning access, and removing users can be done quickly without confusion. This is very useful when teams change or grow. I also like the modern zero-trust approach. Users only get access to what they actually need, not the entire network. This feels safer and more controlled. From a backend and infra perspective, NordLayer works well for protecting internal tools, dashboards, and services without exposing them to the public internet. The dashboard is clean and easy to understand. Even non-networking people can understand what is going on, which reduces dependency on a single expert. Another strong point is stable performance. Connections feel reliable and fast, even when many users are connected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about NordLayer?

One downside is that advanced configuration options are limited. If you want very deep or custom networking rules, it may feel restrictive. Pricing can feel a bit high for small teams, especially when compared to basic VPN tools. Some features require time to fully understand, especially if the team is new to zero trust concepts. The product works very well, but debugging rate connection issues can still take time. Another small drawback is that logs and advanced analytics could be more detailed for deeper troubleshooting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is NordLayer solving and how is that benefiting you?

NordLayer solves the problem of secure access for modern, distributed teams. Traditional VPNs were built for offices, not for remote-first teams and cloud systems. The biggest benefit is simplicity with security. I don't need to design complex network rules or manage VPN servers. NodeLayer handles most of that for me. It helps reduce security risks by limiting access based on roles and identity. Even if credentials are compromised, access is still controlled and limited. From a backend and operations point of view, the NoderLayer keeps internal services private. APIs, admin panels, and databases don't need public exposure. Another major benefit is easy onboarding and offboarding. New team members can get access in minutes, and leaving users can be removed instantly. It supports remote work very well. Team members can securely access systems from anywhere without complicated setup. NordLayer also helps with compliance and audits. Centralized access control and visibility make reviews much easier. It reduces operational overhead. No need to manage VPN infrastructure, patch servers, or rotate certificates manually. Another benefit is consistency. Access behavior stays the same across locations, devices, and teams, which avoids confusion. It improves incident response. If something looks risky, access can be restricted or revoked immediately. Norlayer also supports scaling without pain. As teams or systems grow, security doesn't become harder to manage. It helps reduce developer friction. As a backend developer, I don't have to constantly think about IP whitelisting or temporary access rules. Things just work once access is given. NordeLayer makes environment separation safer. Access to staging, production, and internal tools can be clearly separated, which reduces the chance of human mistakes. It works well with cloud-based systems. Whether services are on AWS, GCP, or internal servers, NORDLayer fits naturally into a cloud-first setup. The platform encourages better security habits without forcing strict or painful workflows on the team. It reduces the need for shared credentials. Each user has their own controlled access, which is safer and easier to track. The setup feels future-proof. As security needs to change, NordLayer already follows modern best practices like identity-based access. It gives peace of mind during external access scenarios, such as vendors or short-term collaborators, because access can be limited and time-bound. It saves time during onboarding and offboarding. When someone joins or leaves the team, access can be added or removed quickly, touching multiple systems. It lowers the risk of accidental exposure. even if someone's device is compromised. Access is still controlled through identity and policies. The dashboard makes it easy to understand who has access to what without digging through configs or documentation. It works quietly in the background. Once set up, developers don't need to think about it daily, which is ideal when focusing on backend work. It helps teams stay audit-ready. Access logs and user activity are available when needed, without extra tooling or manual tracking. It reduces dependency on the office network. Team members can work securely from anywhere without needing a fixed IP or VPN setup. It helps avoid misconfigurations by providing a clear default, which is useful when setting things up quickly. It gives peace of mind during deployments because access rules are already in place and don't need last-minute changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“All-in-One WatchGuard Security Platform That Saves Admin Time”
What do you like best about WatchGuard Network Security?

WatchGuard Network Security offers an all-in-one solution that includes Firebox firewalls, Endpoint Security, and Multi-Factor Authentication (AuthPoint). All those are monitored / maintained / managed in a single platform providing a unique experience to the admins handling the platform. The integration exceeded our expectations and has helped us save a lot of time by having it all together and not spread in different platforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about WatchGuard Network Security?

We see that integrations with other platforms are in beta testing at the time and will be available very soon, but we are missing (do not see it as being tested yet) and would benefit from an integration with the Microsoft 365 platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is WatchGuard Network Security solving and how is that benefiting you?

The WatchGuard Network Security components (Firebox Firewalls, Endpoint Security and Authpoint) are our main solution for keeping our company safe from all the security threats out there. What do you like best about Barracuda CloudGen Firewall?

It is an enterprise level firewall at less than an enterprise cost. I would put them next to Cisco or Juniper any day. They are functional, reliable, quick, and the support from Barracuda is second to NONE. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Barracuda CloudGen Firewall?

Nothing. I mean they could cost less, but you get what you pay for at the end of the day and when you are protecting a company from people doing things they shouldn't have to do, cost starts to become not as relevant. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Barracuda CloudGen Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?

It is securing internet access for our whole agency. We use small firewalls at small facilities to build VPN tunnels back to the main facility. The original problem it solved was an inherent ACL in a Cisco ASA that I needed around for a specific purpose and Cisco was unwilling to do anything to make it work. Barracuda, I could do it out of the box... and that was the old X series firewalls. The cloudgens are light years ahead of them when they stopped making the X's. “Trusted cloud security solutions”
What do you like best about Zscaler Internet Access?

What I like most about Zscaler Internet Access is its cloud-native, Zero Trust approach to securing internet access. It provides secure, policy-based access from any location without relying on traditional VPNs. Features like URL filtering, SSL inspection, cloud firewall, and centralized policy management improve security, simplify administration, and enhance visibility while delivering a seamless user experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Zscaler Internet Access?

One drawback of Zscaler Internet Access is that troubleshooting can be challenging because traffic is inspected and routed through the cloud, making it harder to quickly identify the root cause of connectivity issues. SSL inspection may also cause compatibility issues with some applications if not configured properly. Additionally, creating and managing complex policies requires a good understanding of the platform, and policy changes can sometimes take time to validate and test. Overall, these are manageable with proper planning and administration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Zscaler Internet Access solving and how is that benefiting you?

Zscaler Internet Access solves the challenge of securing internet access for users regardless of their location. It replaces traditional perimeter-based security with a Zero Trust model, protecting users from malware, phishing, and unauthorized access while enforcing consistent security policies. For me, it simplifies security management, improves visibility into internet traffic, reduces reliance on VPNs, and helps resolve issues faster through centralized monitoring and detailed logs. What do you like best about Avast Small Business Cybersecurity?

I appreciate how lightweight it feels on the system. In my experience, it provides strong protection against malware and ransomware without noticeably slowing down users’ computers, which is important in day-to-day work environments. The real-time threat detection and automatic updates give peace of mind, especially for teams that don’t have a dedicated security specialist constantly monitoring threats.

is how easy it is to deploy and manage across multiple devices without adding unnecessary complexity. The central management console is intuitive, which makes it simple to monitor endpoints, apply policies, and review security alerts in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Avast Small Business Cybersecurity?

Occasionally, alerts may require manual review to determine their real impact, which can add extra steps to the workflow.

That said, these limitations are relatively minor and can usually be managed with proper configuration and familiarity with the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Avast Small Business Cybersecurity solving and how is that benefiting you?

It helps me stay protected from malware, viruses, and suspicious files without having to think about it all the time. I don’t need to constantly check settings or worry if my computer is exposed, because it runs in the background and does its job.

What do you dislike about Azure Firewall?

I'm not happy with the complexity involved when using Azure Firewall, especially when migrating. Also, there should be a feature to check if an app is blocked, and this should include a mailing mechanism. “What we couldn't see was the biggest risk.”
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

I manage marketing for a 120 person B2B SaaS company and our team depends on HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager and WordPress every day. We use Panorama to review application traffic and security policies. During a product launch that pushed nearly 3× our usual website traffic the firewall kept response times steady while automatically blocking several suspicious login attempts against our WordPress admin page. I also like how the ML powered inline threat prevention flags unknown traffic patterns instead of relying only on signatures. The pricing is on the premium side but avoiding campaign downtime and protecting customer data has been worth it. Our deployment partner finished onboarding in about 10 days and TAC support was quick whenever we needed policy guidance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls?

We have been running these firewalls across 14 branch offices with around 180 employees and they have been reliable during product launches and high traffic campaigns. The only thing I'd like to see improved is Panorama's policy commit process when several firewall changes are queued commits can take a few extra minutes before every device is updated. It hasn't caused any outages for us but we usually schedule larger policy updates outside business hours. Aside from that performance, threat prevention and stability have been consistently strong. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before deploying Palo Alto Networks Next Generation Firewalls we occasionally dealt with suspicious traffic hitting our WordPress site and had limited visibility into which applications were using network bandwidth. We manage marketing for a 120 employee B2B SaaS company and after moving to Panorama with App ID and ML powered Inline Threat Prevention we could identify unnecessary applications, tighten security policies and keep campaign landing pages available even during heavy traffic. The interface makes it easy to compare logs and policy changes and the integrations with Microsoft Entra ID, Splunk and AWS fit into our existing environment without extra manual work. This has reduced unexpected website interruptions during launches and given us more confidence when running large campaigns. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

“Flexible virtual firewall with strong security features”
What do you like best about Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Virtual Firewall?

The most helpful aspect of the VM-Series is its flexibility in virtualized environments. It allows us to enforce consistent security policies across multiple cloud and on-premises instances, giving strong visibility into traffic and applications. Automated threat detection and AI-driven alerts help us respond to incidents faster, reducing the time spent on manual monitoring. The integration with our existing cloud infrastructure has also simplified management and improved overall efficiency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Virtual Firewall?

The initial deployment can be complex, especially when scaling across multiple virtual networks. Fine-tuning policies and integrating with other monitoring tools took longer than expected, requiring extra training for the team. Pricing can become significant as the number of virtual instances grows. While the firewall is powerful, the documentation could be more user-friendly for first-time administrators. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Palo Alto Networks VM-Series Virtual Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?

The VM-Series Virtual Firewall has helped us centralize security across multiple virtualized environments, including cloud and on-premises workloads. Before using it, managing separate firewalls for each instance created inefficiencies and increased the risk of misconfigurations. Now we can enforce consistent policies, detect threats faster, and reduce manual monitoring. This has improved our incident response times and overall confidence in network security. However, setting up complex policies and integrating with existing monitoring tools still requires extra effort, and scaling the solution can increase costs. “Easy Setup, Reliable High Availability, Needs Better Hardware Performance on Entry Level Hardware”
What do you like best about Netgate pfSense?

I like that Netgate pfSense is easy to configure, making setup straightforward for both my team and clients. The tech support is great, which I find really helpful whenever issues arise. The High Availability (HA) feature works great for us, especially in our government client's networks. It's nice to be able to patch the firewalls during business hours, knowing that if one firewall fails, the second one will pick up without any interruption, and VPN access remains smooth. I also appreciate the better update cycles compared to FortiGate or Sonicwalls, as it seems there are fewer patch releases to deal with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Netgate pfSense?

Some of the hardware appliances seem underpowered. The lower end appliances are slow to apply updates, don't have enough memory for some of the packages, and are just overall sluggish when navigating the GUI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Netgate pfSense solving and how is that benefiting you?

Netgate pfSense offers better update cycles with fewer patch releases, is easy to configure, and provides great tech support. The High Availability works well, allowing updates during business hours without downtime and ensuring VPN accessibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
