I have limited internet connection. So I need to manage my data package for the entire month. I love how I can easily check what software is connecting to the internet, how much data they are using and how it breaks down between local and external traffic. Maybe the constant popups to upgrade to a paid package on the free version. The user-friendly interface is excellent for both skilled and non-skilled users to learn the state of the desktop internet connections. It keeps us constantly updated with any necessary alerts and goes a long way for peace of mind. Glasswire is much more configurable than those regular standalone firewalls; it lets you blacklist connections specific to your own work environment. GlassWire enables to keep track of our mobile carrier data usage and Wi-Fi Internet activity which is great when our team are working remotely. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to both smaller businesses, teams and personal users. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** I am very satisfied with this product and have no dislikes at this time. We haven't needed to contact the support team yet so cannot review that part of the service. **Recommendations to others considering GlassWire Firewall:** It's a no-brainer purchase for personal or small team firewall protection but if you are hesitant to buy - you can always trial it and then upgrade to the paid version, it's an excellent protective and diagnostic tool - though it shouls be remembered that this is only one tool in the toolkit necessary for protecting our work environment nowadays. Not only does it help you see what programs are pulling from the network but also how much. Being able to turn off and on specific programs is a real help when troubleshooting. Since this is available for multiple devices and OS's you can keep track of your digital footprint as it were. Whenever anything is behaving questionably there is even the feature to have that program analyzed for any virus or malware definitions. The most helpful aspect that I have found is being notified whenever a new service starts using the network. If you haven't added any new programs and something starts to connect you know something is up. An upside is that everything is all in one place and easy to get to. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** The pay-per-month income setup is not a favorite of mine. As these programs are great for what they can do by keeping you on such a program it will inevitably become a problem for some as it cannot fully take over for an antivirus. If using with another antivirus it would yield some serious protections against intruders into your system. But on the other hand if you could only choose one many would opt for the antivirus protections since this has no real time scanner. **Recommendations to others considering GlassWire Firewall:** If you have knowledge of networks and what a more detailed breakdown of your activity then GlassWire is where to look. **What problems is GlassWire Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?** It did help me see where some hidden programs were causing some unnecessary network draw and remove them. If needing a detailed network outline and consumption and a meta amount of control over the network this is a clear contender for 1st place. It has made network overview much less of a hassle in trying to see what is drawing what. ### 7. It was still very young and nothing like it had been developed to my knowledge. However, over the years I have installed it as one of my first applications on my systems. Glasswire offers so many amazing features. The paid upgrade and the "Ask to Connect" feature, it is a god sent and must have. Being able to see usage on metered connections is grand. The ability to see which devices are connecting to your network instantly is also amazing. It also alerts you to software upgrading, internet outages, and so so much more. I would say It is a must for people looking to secure their networks. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** The few downsides I would say it does offer is not being able to block programs from connecting to some IP addresses or subscribing to known lists of IPs. When using "Ask to Connect" the user needs to have a deep understanding of what needs a connection and what is unneeded. It's also lacking any kind of features that would allow me to view or monitor what kind of data is being sent in and out. Overall, these would not stop me from using the software. **Recommendations to others considering GlassWire Firewall:** If you want to have the most control of what is talking to what online or in your network. This is it. The firewall works great and seamlessly on Windows. The Elite edition allows me monitor unlimited remote clients, which is another unique function. The log of data is one of the biggest ones. It keeps an year of traffic, apps updates and consumption by protocol data. I used to pay for antivirus, but they never permitted me to know when my connection is being used by third-party apps. Now, with GlassWire only, I know and can investigate inappropriate use of my bandwidth by unknown sources. For streamers, it's a key tool. Well, I need to highlight the visuals. GlassWire is beautifully developed and comes with good skins options. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** Glasswire doesn't allows me to customize the units for bandwidth measurement. It would be awesome if the user could choose between, MBps, Mbps or, even, kbps. Some kind of integration between GlassWire Mobile and desktop would be cool. Imagine users using smartphone as remote viewer! Incognito mode doesn't explain what it's made for. Doesn't have a GAME MODE. Doesn't have a STREAMER MODE, allowing user to choose specific apps to use network with priority, similiar to a "QoS via software". The app doesn't have an AUTO DARK MODE for night times. It would be great if users can set different skins for different hours of day. **What problems is GlassWire Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?** GlassWire replaced antivirus, giving more speed for my PC and a more transparent network analysis. ### 9. Beyond this, GlassWire makes it simple to prevent even non-malicious programs from accessing the Internet. There is a trial version available and only by using it will you truly understand just how powerful this program is. It is easy to set up and configure. If I get some new piece of malware on my PC before my chosen anti-malware program detects it, hopefully one of the more than dozens of anti-malware programs at VirusTotal.com will detect it. This is a fantastic capability. I also use GlassWire to block some programs from accessing the Internet when I feel there is no good reason to allow them to. ### 10. I love Glasswire's ability to dig deep into the past - I can easily discern between new and ongoing trends, and see what is really using my bandwidth over time. I've been able to easily identify and remove unexpected talkers that I had long thought removed, or block them. Since I can easily see both incoming and outgoing traffic, I'm able to gain better insight into what is actually going on behind the scenes. I haven't seen any AV conflicts and that really makes me happy. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** I would really like to be able to see (or at least access) glasswire data from a local control console from one of the machines within my network - it's annoying to have to go from machine to machine. Glasswire also has the potential to introduce conflict with VPNs like NordVPN, as well as some command and control programs such as Tanium or Bigfix - it concerns me that the recommended techniques for bypassing some of those conflicts, such as with VPN, may reduce functionality. **What problems is GlassWire Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm able to track down anything from minor undesirable activity up through major talkers on my network, and look at things both in real time as well as extensive historical perspectives. By reviewing this activity in Glasswire's different activity views, I can determine where to focus my energies significantly more easily than watching things with only OS-native and free analysis tools at my fingertips. This is a significant benefit for me as one of my side-goals in my home lab is to optimize network activity for the products I'm supporting, so Glasswire helps with that a lot. ### 11. The firewall function is extremely useful and allows greater control over access to my system. Creating the ability to monitor usage graphically allows users the flexibility to discontinue programs that are non-essential. Real-time alerts let me know if I need to take action regarding a connection that might be harmful. I am one of those users who prefer something good to look at. Since my network connection is sketchy and rather slow, I have to check my net speed regularly. Glasswire has a very cute little network speed monitor that has become a part of my desktop for the last few years. As for their firewall ability, I can not count the many instances they caught a rough app that wanted network access. I know we can do this using the windows settings. But I really like the dashboard Glasswire provides to monitor and control network access. Anyone who wants an easy UI/UX should go with Glasswire over the default app. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** I don't think there is anything that I don't like. Afterall it does what it was supposed to do and do it nicely. One thing I would say they could work on though. The company tend to send a lot of promotional emails. since I am already a paid premium customer, I think they don't have to promote to me :) But it is easy to solve by changing the email preference. **Recommendations to others considering GlassWire Firewall:** If you are looking for an intuitive firewall that is easy to use, you should try Glasswire. This is a pocket-friendly reliable tool and the company has been in the market for several years. You can depend on them to maintain your data security. In case you have multiple computers like me, I would advise buying bulk licensing as it comes a lot cheaper than individual ones. And if you are looking for a widget that would sit on your screen and show activities directly, this is the only tool I found that works properly. There are several free/freemium options, but none were easy to use/understand. **What problems is GlassWire Firewall solving and how is that benefiting you?** I can monitor my network speed at all time using the mini window. And I get notified with pop-ups whenever any app tries to access the internet. I mostly use this for my personal desktop and office laptop. The main advantage of GlassWire is a very aesthetic interface, which attracts the eye and is very clear so that we can easily find the search for features. GlassWire allows us to check which hosts our computer is currently using to make inquiries so that we can protect ourselves against threats. Another advantage of GlassWire is the fact that this solution warns us of unusual movement and unusual changes in applications. GlassWire also allows us to monitor our Wifi network, so we can also protect devices operating in our local network. Another feature I liked very much was the ability to configure custom firewall profiles for different scenarios. He is no joke when it comes to network security, so his seal of approval of GlassWire sold me to get the software. I have been more than happy with the software and it's detailed network analytics. The very instant a program accesses my network I get a notification which is great. I can also block said program from my network right from GlassWire's built in Firewall. The detailed activity graph is also very useful to see how much data is being used across the network and it shows how much data all open apps are using through GlassWire's Usage tab. GlassWire's "Lock Down Mode" also allows you to block all network connectivity. This is useful if you must leave your computer on while you are away from your computer. This stops viruses and even unwanted people, if they so happen to access your computer, from using your network. **What do you dislike about GlassWire Firewall?** No ability to stop threats within GlassWire. But any PC expert knows to have dedicated anti-virus software.
