## Unique Learning System Pros & Cons

## Unique Learning System Reviews
  ### 1. Unique

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bridget E. | Guest Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

Different levels for students, premade lessons

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

Not enough time for some lessons. Not a lot of variation from year to year since some students are in the same class for a few years.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Site crashes. It helps me because I can do all of the lessons online and not print lessons

  ### 2. Awesome Curriculum for Students with Disabilities

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** DAISY G. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

I like the ease of use of this website . This curriculum is already differentiated according to a student's ability and it is designed thematically every month so it fits the lessons we use in the classroom. It has text to read features which allows students who has reading challenges to still read and access materials . It has a lot of visual cues to make the curriculum understandable and accessible for all students.

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

I hope they can expand their units with embed videos so we are able to use those as a resource when we are teaching the lessons.

**Recommendations to others considering Unique Learning System:**

As a special education teacher for more than 20 years Unique Learning System has been the best website I had used for curriculum for students with special needs.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use ULS as our main curriculum for my class . I like the ease of use of this website and I had organized my class around the monthly themes . The activities are well organized and can easily be taught to kids- its like having the same platforms for the activities but the content varies every month.

  ### 3. Unique Learning System in Special Education

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

I thoroughly enjoy using this software. I have used it for seven years now as a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom. I think it is very appropriate for students with mild disabilities all the way to students with severe and profound disabilities. I love the picture symbol text, read-aloud feature, and all the assessment features. I utilize the GPS feature, which allows for pre and post-assessment during a typical school year, accompanied by graphs and charts to help monitor student progress. It is an excellent software for students with disabilities. It is also very user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

There are very few things I dislike about the Unique Learning System. The only complaints I can acknowledge are the topics on occasion. They can be irrelevant or complex for my students to understand. Sometimes, they are just unenjoyable. This is not all of the time, and there are often various options to choose from, allowing our class to explore and find better topics within the software. The downsides of using the software come when utilizing a typical book or other reading opportunities without the picture symbol feature - students have become used to the ULS system and are unable to follow along, as well.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ULS allows my students to engage in their English language a experience in a way that they were otherwise unable to before the addition of the software to our classroom. The program allows teachers to individualize student reading comprehension based on their abilitiy level. There are assessments for every lesson at multiple levels; therefore, all students can be assessed on the same lesson in different formats. The software contains a variety of sources for each lesson in all content areas with a basis in reading comprehension. This feature allows a teacher to address multiple content areas in one lesson. There are many benefits to using this software in a self-contained special education classroom.

  ### 4. Not Teacher Friendly and quite tedious to implement.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

There is an easy process to share with other teachers.

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

The system is not easy to maneuver. There is no consistency in the placement of icons and buttons. Teacher is given a multitude of items to document and the need to add time limits does not work for the population of students that need a lot of parent/guardian support.
Truthfully, I don't understand the concept. Which students get what assignments and which students are to be assigned separate assignments?

**Recommendations to others considering Unique Learning System:**

Make sure you request an in-person ULS come to help you set up and explain the system to your satisfaction.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides the state standards for the lessons and has a large number of videos to help with the process. However, the videos begin to add to the complexity of the system.

  ### 5. Middle School All 5 Academic Subjects

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

I think it has potential in reading, even though it is easy for my higher readers.

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

Math--it's either too easy or too hard. Example: Word problems are broken down into just addition or subtractions. My students need to learn vocabulary to be able to determine if they should add or subtract. Too hard when it comes to Algebra, which is not particularly a real world topic.
Science--Not enough material. One experiment cannot last three days. Science is needed daily and monthly for a 50 minute block.
Social Studies---Is there even social studies curriculum???? So little it seems like none. Plus it's not relevant to Georgia's standards. There is also nothing for the 6th and 7th grade curriculum. I teach 50 minutes of social studies daily. Not 20 minutes here and there. There are less than 10 extra practice social studies and each of those can be done in one day not spread over 3.
Language Arts--when you give students a writing prompt, it seems you just think they will write. The students need several choices to choose from plus word boxes and sample sentence starters. A random topic doesn't work. Also, students can't just edit their own work. They have to learn basic editing skills taught in the classroom.

**Recommendations to others considering Unique Learning System:**

Make sure you know what you're buying and who your target audience is. Our district is trying to use this as a one-fit model for all special education students not on GA Milestones.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm not solving any problems. This program is causing me more work trying to work around it. For reading it is fine, but all other subjects are splintered at best. I don't have time to piece-mill a lesson together. It is lacking on many levels. The web design itself is frustrating for me. It's not user friendly. I would not recommend this program to anyone except for Reading and even then, the selections are not challenging to our higher readers.

  ### 6. ULS is the best software available for students with severe developmental disabilities.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

Variety of subjects, activities, and resources
Symbol-supported text
Compatibility with adaptive switches and touch screens
Ability to create teacher and student profiles

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

The user interface can be difficult to navigate at first.

**Recommendations to others considering Unique Learning System:**

Certainly, multiple training sessions will be necessary for anyone using the program for the first time.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ULS is a huge time-saver. It has everything you need ready to go to implement in the classroom. All you have to do is print off what you need.

  ### 7. Sped teacher's blessing

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2018

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

Sometimes overwhelmingly because there are so many things that you can do with the program that it can feel a bit much.

**Recommendations to others considering Unique Learning System:**

A great tool that will benefit teachers and students.

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The program has been instrumental in my classroom. It keeps the students engaged.

  ### 8. Great features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Unique Learning System?**

The monthly topics are great. They have themes and visuals for non readers

**What do you dislike about Unique Learning System?**

I think the monthly articles would benefit from more substance to facilitate conversation

**What problems is Unique Learning System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefits are students feel successful when they are able to work independently on the questions and answers

  ### 9. Best learning system for my low functioning foundational learning class.

If anything sometimes my system crashes.

This product is great for teaching children to learn to read as well as children who are learning the language.
