Sylypheed is very lightweight, using only 40MB of RAM and responsive. Its minimalist interface allows one to focus on the content of the emails. The search functionality is also fairly powerful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The lack of calendaring functionality reduces its usefulness in any environment requiring a calendar, as then a second application is needed to fulfil this function. When there are no meetings to keep track of, this is fine, but when there are, it can be a dealbreaker that causes one to switch to webmail or some other option that includes calendaring.
