**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

I like the reliability that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server provides us, as we commonly do not have problems due to the operating system itself. I also appreciate the patching facilities it offers with SUSE Manager and live patching, which allow us to have no interruptions in our systems. Additionally, the initial setup was very easy for our banking entity, which made the installation process easier by reducing the list of necessary minimum configurations and libraries.

By using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for everything, it gives us a great advantage in how to configure and prepare it for any specific load and customization. It provides patching facilities with SUSE Manager and livepatching, avoiding interruptions in our systems.

**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is our leading operating system for Linux systems. I appreciate the extensive core for our system landscape and the long support periods of the OS versions. The simplicity of the system is a great advantage, and we can adapt it very well to our needs. The patch management works great. We have also had good experiences with SUSE's support, which made the initial setup very easy for us.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

The package and repository handling is, for example, very complex. The community is not as large as with similar products.

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server offers a comprehensive core for our system landscape. It has long support times and good management with the Suse Multi Linux Manager. The simplicity and adaptability to our needs, as well as the excellent patch management, are also significant advantages.

  ### 5. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Linux from Europe

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 08, 2025

**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

We use SLES due to the long support cycles for the major versions, the well-tested software, and the reliability during upgrades. Besides Debian GNU/Linux, 70% of our servers run on SLES, and the servers can be easily administered via Ansible. The contact with customer support takes place in English, which is positive, but in my opinion, it should continue to be in German. So far, there has been no challenge that could not be solved. I would also like to particularly emphasize that SUSE is not rigid in its development, but with the new version 16, it cuts off old habits and removes tools like yast, apparmor, and salt from the standard distribution in favor of their better counterparts. The offer of the SUSE open build service for creating, testing, and publishing software packages is also worth mentioning. It can be used freely, and with it, missing packages can be created by oneself.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

The partial absence of, in my opinion, important packages like mydumper or hstr. However, it should be mentioned that there is the Open Build Service from SUSE.

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A solid Linux like any other, but very solid and based in Europe.

**Official Response from Huw Wigley:**

> Thank you for your positive sentiment.

Our focus on Digital Sovereignty ensures that our customers can keep their data local, their operations adaptable, and their options open.

  ### 6. The advantages of open source with the benefits of enterprise-grade support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oriol R. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2025

**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

I’ve had a very positive experience with SUSE because it’s a highly robust operating system.

Its stability, reliability, and enterprise-grade capabilities, make it an excellent choice for organizations that need a solid platform.

In addition, the support is very professional and efficient whenever it’s needed. I know that SUSE has recently improved its support service through the SCC portal, which makes the overall experience even stronger and more reliable.

Currently, SUSE 15 SP7 offers a very high LTS (Long-Term Support), which greatly simplifies the server lifecycle in terms of updates, allowing organizations to stay up-to-date without having to perform major release upgrades.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

I had occasionally encountered situations where a package from the official repositories (PHP, for example) was behind the latest active version. Although these packages were maintained with security updates, I had to keep an application running without being able to upgrade to the latest version due to the repository limitations.

Earlier versions had a short lifecycle, but this has been resolved with SUSE 15 SP7, which now offers a much longer Long-Term Support (LTS), simplifying server maintenance and updates

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SUSE has stability and strong security, which keep critical applications running and data well protected. Its official repositories are extensive, providing a wide range of packages and resources. On top of that, SLES follows the open source philosophy, offering flexibility and transparency.

**Official Response from Huw Wigley:**

> Thank you, Oriol.

The open source philosophy is in our DNA, and long-term support is essential.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Md S. | Sr. Systems Engineer, Datacenter Cloud Operations, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2025

**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

What I like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is how easy it is to use and implement, even in complex enterprise environments. The YaST tool simplifies administration and configuration, saving time for daily operations. I work with SLES everyday for running business-critical applications like SAP, and it consistently delivers stability and performance. The platform comes with a rich set of enterprise-grade features while still allowing smooth integration with cloud, container, and hybrid environments. Another big plus is the excellent customer support and clear documentation, which ensures issues are resolved quickly and confidently. Overall, SLES offers the perfect balance of usability, functionality, and reliability for enterprise workloads.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

While SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is very reliable, some areas could be improved. Certain configurations can feel complex for new users, and official packages or updates sometimes lag behind community versions. Licensing and subscription costs may also feel higher compared to other distributions. However, these are minor compared to the overall stability, support, and enterprise readiness SLES provides.

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is helping us by providing a stable and secure platform for server virtualization, which improves resource utilization and reduces infrastructure costs. For SAP workloads, it delivers excellent performance and reliability, making it easier to run business-critical applications without downtime. In addition, its strong support for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) allows seamless integration with cloud environments, giving us flexibility and scalability as business needs grow. The overall benefit has been greater efficiency, lower operational risk, and a consistent enterprise-ready environment that we can depend on daily.

**Official Response from Huw Wigley:**

To be frank, I can't think of anything to dislike about SUSE. They have very good after sales support and they really reward customers well.

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an operating system that we can run our SAP HANA on and SUS Linux Enterprise Server seems to be the right fit with their Long Term Service Pack Support, we can keep using our application longer without planning an update or migration every time.

**Official Response from Huw Wigley:**

> Thank you for being 'frank'. We strive to continue delivering best-in-class support.

The professional support, up-to-date kernel, and overall stability make SLES a solid choice for production systems. Having a recent kernel boosts performance a lot.

  ### 24. Review on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** MOHAMMEDAZIM S. | Lecturer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 10, 2023

**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

Support for various hardware architectures, virtualisation, containerisation, and cloud computing are just a few of the many features that SLES offers. It is simple to deploy, configure, and maintain since it has a comprehensive set of system administration, monitoring, and automation tools.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

One possible negative of SLES is that it is not a free and open-source operating system like many other Linux variants. SLES requires a paid membership for business use. However, SUSE provides a free community version named openSUSE. Some businesses that favour open-source software and are on a tight budget may find this a limiting issue.
Compared to other Linux distributions like Ubuntu or CentOS, SLES may not have as large of a user base or third-party software support. Nonetheless, SUSE offers thorough certifications and support services for their operating system, which might be helpful for business clients.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server's applicability mostly depends on the unique demands and requirements of a company.

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Delivering a stable, dependable, and secure platform for mission-critical applications and services, with little downtime and high availability, which may boost operational efficiency and productivity.
Supporting virtualization and containerization technologies, which may assist organisations in lowering hardware costs, increasing resource utilisation, and enabling more flexible and scalable IT infrastructure.

SUSE is perfect for clustering and data processing; unlike other competitors, this option is already managed as standard for processes that require high computing.
Managing several servers at the same time requires a successful configuration and high-performance cables; with SUSE it is possible to perform these functions.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

I have compatibility problems with previous versions of SUSE and RPM to integrate into my service; although the technical support solves me or looks for alternatives, I always have to resort to this service, wasting time.

**What problems is SUSE Linux Enterprise Server solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data management and complex equation processes at the University to demonstrate theories with multiple servers working simultaneously; with SUSE I am able to unite this power and use the required response in less time.

**What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?**

I like Suse linux Enterprise Server because of the variety of Custom OS versions for different CPU's like IBM Power and Intel and different applications running on it and also because they deliver both on-premise and cloud-based services. I really do not have much in a list regarding dislikes. I suppose if I had to pick one thing, it would be the fact that some IBM RST packages are hard to find and manage. I don't like it that some application vendors do not support Suse in their compatibility matrix.
The updates is more a Linux global thing, if you patch once a month you will get a whole bunch of updates. I would like to see cumulative updates like Windows update in Microsoft windows servers.
