"Flexibility and Reliability in Enterprise Servers"
What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

I like the reliability that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server provides us, as we commonly do not have problems due to the operating system itself. I also appreciate the patching facilities it offers with SUSE Manager and live patching, which allow us to have no interruptions in our systems. Additionally, the initial setup was very easy for our banking entity, which made the installation process easier by reducing the list of necessary minimum configurations and libraries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

The monitoring of memory in use and the paging of applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is our leading operating system for Linux systems. I appreciate the extensive core for our system landscape and the long support periods of the OS versions. The simplicity of the system is a great advantage, and we can adapt it very well to our needs. The patch management works great. We have also had good experiences with SUSE's support, which made the initial setup very easy for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"stable installation with easy management"
What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

I appreciate the stability of the installation and the robustness of the regular patches in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. The simple patching and the possibility of completely automatic installation help us to perform the installation and operation easily and efficiently. I find the integrated snapshot mechanism particularly helpful, which allows us to revert the operating system to the previous state within minutes if stability issues occur after a patch. The initial setup is also very easy to perform thanks to the simple manual installation and our experience with the Autoyast installation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Linux from Europe"
What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

We use SLES due to the long support cycles for the major versions, the well-tested software, and the reliability during upgrades. Besides Debian GNU/Linux, 70% of our servers run on SLES, and the servers can be easily administered via Ansible. The contact with customer support takes place in English, which is positive, but in my opinion, it should continue to be in German. So far, there has been no challenge that could not be solved. I would also like to particularly emphasize that SUSE is not rigid in its development, but with the new version 16, it cuts off old habits and removes tools like yast, apparmor, and salt from the standard distribution in favor of their better counterparts. The offer of the SUSE open build service for creating, testing, and publishing software packages is also worth mentioning. It can be used freely, and with it, missing packages can be created by oneself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

The partial absence of, in my opinion, important packages like mydumper or hstr. However, it should be mentioned that there is the Open Build Service from SUSE. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Huw Wigley of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server

Thank you for your positive sentiment.

"The advantages of open source with the benefits of enterprise-grade support"
What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

I’ve had a very positive experience with SUSE because it’s a highly robust operating system.

Its stability, reliability, and enterprise-grade capabilities, make it an excellent choice for organizations that need a solid platform.

In addition, the support is very professional and efficient whenever it’s needed. I know that SUSE has recently improved its support service through the SCC portal, which makes the overall experience even stronger and more reliable.

Currently, SUSE 15 SP7 offers a very high LTS (Long-Term Support), which greatly simplifies the server lifecycle in terms of updates, allowing organizations to stay up-to-date without having to perform major release upgrades. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

I had occasionally encountered situations where a package from the official repositories (PHP, for example) was behind the latest active version. Although these packages were maintained with security updates, I had to keep an application running without being able to upgrade to the latest version due to the repository limitations.

Earlier versions had a short lifecycle, but this has been resolved with SUSE 15 SP7, which now offers a much longer Long-Term Support (LTS), simplifying server maintenance and updates Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Huw Wigley of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server

Thank you, Oriol.

The open source philosophy is in our DNA, and long-term support is essential.

"The Complete Enterprise Linux: Cloud-Ready, High-Performance, and Fully Supported"
What do you like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

What I like best about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is how easy it is to use and implement, even in complex enterprise environments. The YaST tool simplifies administration and configuration, saving time for daily operations. I work with SLES everyday for running business-critical applications like SAP, and it consistently delivers stability and performance. The platform comes with a rich set of enterprise-grade features while still allowing smooth integration with cloud, container, and hybrid environments. Another big plus is the excellent customer support and clear documentation, which ensures issues are resolved quickly and confidently. Overall, SLES offers the perfect balance of usability, functionality, and reliability for enterprise workloads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server?

While SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is very reliable, some areas could be improved. Certain configurations can feel complex for new users, and official packages or updates sometimes lag behind community versions. Licensing and subscription costs may also feel higher compared to other distributions. However, these are minor compared to the overall stability, support, and enterprise readiness SLES provides. Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. It's very much appreciated.
