## About Speakable
Speakable is an AI-powered learning platform designed to assist educators in creating, assigning, and assessing speaking and writing activities for their students. This innovative solution aims to streamline the teaching process by providing tools that facilitate interactive assignments, instant feedback, and comprehensive tracking of student progress, all while minimizing the time spent on grading. Targeted primarily at teachers and educational institutions, Speakable caters to a diverse range of classroom environments. Its versatility allows educators to generate a variety of activities using AI, making it suitable for language learning and writing skills development. The platform supports multiple assignment formats, including spoken and written open responses, multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and listen-and-repeat exercises, ensuring that it meets the varied needs of students at different proficiency levels. One of the standout features of Speakable is its integration with popular learning management systems such as Google Classroom, Canvas, and Clever. These integrations facilitate single sign-on access, class rostering, and grade passback, enabling teachers to seamlessly incorporate Speakable into their existing workflows without disruption. This ease of use is crucial for educators looking to enhance their teaching methods without the burden of additional administrative tasks. Collaboration among educators is further enhanced through Speakable's shared team spaces, which allow teachers to work together on content development and ensure curriculum alignment across different classrooms. Additionally, the platform includes built-in progress tracking features that provide detailed reports at the student, class, or organizational level. These reports are instrumental in measuring student growth over time and include proficiency estimates aligned with recognized standards such as ACTFL or WIDA. By combining advanced AI capabilities with a user-friendly interface, Speakable empowers educators to deliver more practice opportunities, provide better feedback, and gain clearer insights into student progress. This not only enhances the learning experience for students but also allows teachers to focus on what they do best—teaching—while saving valuable time in the assessment process.

## Speakable Reviews
 ### 1. ACTFL-Based Ratings and Detailed Feedback with Responsive Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melanie K. | World Language Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

Speakable has the capability of rating samples using the ACTFL proficiency scale and providing students with detailed feedback.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

Speakable is off to a good start but has a lot of issues -- sometimes the voice-to-text transcriptions are WAY off, I've had students be told they were not speaking the target language (when they were) and that their samples were not long enough (when they were), etc. But on the bright side, complaints to the company seem to be received and answered quickly and helpfully even to the extent of taking suggestions for future updates.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a world language teacher, getting students more speaking practice is crucial but it can be very tedious to keep the recordings organized and give appropriate feedback. I still need to listen to them all, but having transcripts helps greatly, not to mention the fact that AI can give them feedback and ratings. I also appreciate having the prompts set up so next year will be a breeze!

 ### 2. Empowers English Learners with Interactive Speaking Tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christina D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

I like the different options on the Speakable platform that I can use to make full lessons. I am also able to do gradual release of supports. I really like the visuals that come from the AI-generated content. It does a really good job of making it look like a picture, not just clipart. Lastly, I like how much it mimics the WIDA access.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I don't like that I'm not able to give a student more chances after I assign the lesson. If they get two chances to get a response and write "I don't know" or just letters, I can't give them more chances. It's really difficult if a student bombed the assessment and I have a conference with them and want to give them another opportunity to make it right. I would like to be able to reset their chances. The initial setup was a little difficult just because it was not approved in my district for use on student Chromebooks. I had to go through the process of getting it approved, which was a timely process that took a couple of months.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speakable lets me hear each student's responses in practice, eases their mic fear, and frees me up for small group work.

 ### 3. A Robust Tool for Individual Progress Tracking

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

I use Speakable for warm-ups and proficiency tracking, and it really helps solve the problem of providing feedback to a large number of students. One of my favorite aspects is the portfolio feature with proficiency tracking, as it provides me with the necessary information to offer personalized guidance to each of my 130 students. The initial setup was easy when I started using it myself, although it became a bit more complicated during pilot implementation and when transitioning to a paid plan. Overall, Speakable has been a valuable tool for efficiently managing my teaching needs.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I wish it were more inexpensive. My district uses Schoology, and we do not have the proper plan for that integration.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Speakable for proficiency tracking and find it helps provide feedback en masse, track progression, and offer individualized guidance to students.

 ### 4. Efficient, User-Friendly Feedback for Teachers and Students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Meg M. | Spanish Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

Efficiently gives feedback to students and is very user-friendly from both the teacher and student end of the platform.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I dislike that if you would like to alter an assignment after assigning it, you are not able to do so.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speakable is solving a huge problem of giving students quick and timely feedback on their writing and speaking in Spanish.

 ### 5. Speakable is the 1:1 Coach of the Year!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nancy N. | World Language Teacher and self-employed curriculum designer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

Speakable.io is your friendly neighborhood SPEAKING/PRONUNCIATION COACH, down to the syllable level!! It is an absolute must for most subjects, not just language teachers. It not only saves many, many hours, but the detailed feedback and correction does a more thorough and excellent job than any of us could do if we had literally nothing else to do. The thoughtful, sensitive, encouraging, detailed, accurate, extensive feedback with grammar correction, compliance evaluation, suggestions, and assessment per standards cannot be done by us teachers. Student portfolios keep track of ongoing progress in oral and written work, even listening and reading comprehension. Upload your own rubrics for evaluation, or ACTFL, or whichever. Social Studies, history, and language arts teachers, not just world language teachers, should be using it for oral and written exams. Up your game x 1000! The personal customer support by developers we come to know and recognize, webinars, personal zoom troubleshooting is so unusual these days.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I'm not sure if there is an 'I give up" feature for words that are difficult to pronounce, but if not, there needs to be. My students got hung up on the French U, which modeling in the app doesn't teach.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a French teacher and curriculum designer/publisher. The problem Speakable solves for me : no time to tutor students individually and give substantive, effective feedback.

 ### 6. Immediate Feedback That Improves Students’ Speaking and Writing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

It allows my students to get immediate feedback on their speaking and writing proficiency and how to improve their pronunciation and grammar.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I have had students report issues with their language not being understood by the AI or it does not accurately register what they said.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They've added in features to estimate the students' ACTFL proficiency levels in speaking and writing. They've also added the ability to create reading and listening activities on their platform.

 ### 7. Game Changing & Ready for Gen Z

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emily H. | Teacher & Content/Media Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

The instant feedback that is possible with the Speakable prompts is game changing for 1) keeping my teacher sanity and 2) keeping my Gen Z learners engaged. In the "old world", they would submit their answers and have to wait for me to grade them. Whenever they received the feedback, their brain was somewhere new and feedback always felt powerless. With Speakable, feedback is now FULL POWER. Within 24 hours of posting my first assignment, 8 students emailed me or came up to me after class (completely unsolicited) to tell me "how much they ENJOYED that assignment". The instant feedback and breakdown of their work completely changes everything about language learning for me. The prompt builder is so ease to use and easy to push to Google Classroom so everything is integrated and organized.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

Occasionally the feedback generated by the AI can be too broad or too picky and it can take some dialing in to get your feedback just right. It's a learning curve for me but not too bad. Sometimes the organization or gradebook view of the prompts and the data is clunky and requires a lot of clicks to navigate.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing feedback for speaking and writing tasks. Allowing students to submit audio responses with ease. It's saving me a lot of time in grading and parsing out of every recording. The kids are getting more than what they need to grow and learn in a more efficient way.

 ### 8. Most helpful student app for developing oral proficiency

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elena G. | Spanish Teacher, Department Chair, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

I have been using Speakable for 2 years now and I find it student and teacher friendly. I can quickly view student work and results whether by listening to their recordings or reading the scripted version of their recording with the AI feedback and corrections. It is an amazing tool and it has helped my students develop their oral proficiency. I love the ACTFL proficiency level feedback. The customer support is always available. I use Speakable with my students on a weekly basis. It si incredibly teacher and student friendly!

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

The images don't always match the vocabulary or are not age appropriate.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speakable is trying to improve the ACTFL benchmark feedback to make it more accurate for students. It has not alwyas been correct.

 ### 9. Interactive classroom

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maura S. | Spanish Tescher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

The best thing I like about Speakable is that my students can practice their speaking , listening, and writing skills with instant feedback.

I have used it when I am out sick and they have a speaking assignment. They get instant grades.

It makes my grading so much better and less time consuming!

Now, what I loved about it? I saw my students interact, practice , practice, laugh and enjoy learning!

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

Sometimes student voices were not recorded correctly. I had to create another assignment. It was a bit time consuming.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can provide more Spanish speaking practice activities then without using the app. The instant feedback makes a huge difference for both students and I.

 ### 10. Perfect speaking practice for novice to advanced language learners!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lindsay S. | Spanish Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

My students absolutly love the fact they can do this at home (private!), and the gamified aspect.

I absolutly love the automatic grading aspect based on National or State standards.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

Our microphones on our student computers are too sensitive for the students to use this in class. We tried a fe times, some students were able to do it, others' microphones kept picking up the other students.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I teach Spanish, levels Exploratory, Novice all the way to Advanced. It can be difficult for students to feel confident about speaking in front of their peers. This program makes ALL my students comfortable with their pronuniciation and abilities.

 ### 11. Best site!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JULIETA G. | Spanish teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

I absolutely loved using speakable last year with my class. When I finally figured out how to use it, I realize how simple it was. I loved I could borrow cards from other creators, I could modify them and streamline my work. I had a grant and was able to pay for it, but alas the money is gone now.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I wish that it was compatibe with Canvas and the grades would upload automatically. It was a bit of a hassle to use it as grades in my class.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I cannot hear all my students and give feedback as often as I would like. This site provides with immediate feedback. It is fairly accurate.

 ### 12. Impressed to be able to assess my students in speaking

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JASON W. | Spanish Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

I like that I have a range of assessment tools to use with my students, and that I have the option to let the AI grade my assignments, either by rubric or ACTFL level.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

I'd like the ability for Speakable to generate texts on the fly for reading and listening.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has been almost impossible before now to assess students' ability to speak the language. Speakable adequately and easily addresses that.

 ### 13. I really liked the fact that my students could receive inmediate feedback

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafaela V. | English Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

Something that I really like is the immediate feedback.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

Sometimes my students said the app did not recognize their real answers, so I would like to have more accurate voice recognition for my students.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My students are getting a lot of practice with speakable as well as a accurate feedback on how their responses might be. It is a time saver for teachers.

 ### 14. Saves Time!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Speakable?**

I don't have to do speaking grades with students one-on-one or listen to long recordings of them trying to figure out what to say.

**What do you dislike about Speakable?**

My students with speech impediments struggle with completing assignments that are checked by AI. I am very unsatisfied with the credits system and that Speakable will not take POs for credits, so I had to pay for it myself. The speaking examples should be slower.

**What problems is Speakable solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Saving time!

 ### 15. speakable.io gets better all of the tme. Great immediate feedback for the students.
