The app is straightforward to use. Importing scene details in bulk is fairly simple. Since we handle 4-6 projects each year, I appreciate having a "bank" of people to choose from—this means that even if someone is removed from a specific project, they remain listed under "All People." It's not easy to build the call sheets on mobile devices (though reading them is easy for the end user). Because of this, I usually build them out on my laptop in advance and then access via my phone just to update the call time and publish.

I have been using Set Hero for a while now, and it has completely changed the way I handle call sheets. I moved to Los Angeles from India about five years ago for film school, and now I work full time as a filmmaker and First Assistant Director. When I came across Set Hero, I was instantly sold.

The biggest strength of Set Hero for me is how much time it saves. Creating call sheets used to take hours, but now it feels effortless. From adding or removing people, inserting locations, and updating numbers, to publishing and sending call sheets, everything is quick and intuitive. The workflow is incredibly smooth, especially on busy shoot days when time is tight.

Everyone on set has complimented the call sheets made through Set Hero. They look clean, professional, and easy to read. It has become an essential part of my production process, and I honestly don’t see myself switching to anything else.

If I could request one feature, it would be a dedicated section for background talent. Many of the shows I work on have a large number of background actors, and it would be great to include their names and roles directly in the call sheet. SetHero has been my go-to call sheet making & distributing software for many years and frequently been used by me over many film productions of varying sizes. The software has been thoughtfully designed and is beautifully executed. It makes distributing critical logistics info a breeze, and is actually fun to use. Customer support has proven fast and efficient over the handful of times I needed to reach out to them. Though excellent in so many ways, SetHero still has a few aspects that I have found I need to wrestle with from time to time. One is figuring out the number of people and trying to juggle plans if more folks are added. Also subscriptions have always seemed to me somewhat burdensome, but this seems to be the way so many companies do things today in order to continue development and maintain support, so it's not a surprise. The interface is extremely intuitive and with updates, it seemingly gets better every day. If you think of something you want to do, there's likely a way to do it, as it's already been thought of. Those are the most intuitive apps, where if you can think of it, you can do it. Plus, the look of the call sheet is well designed, some apps have a spreadsheet-type feel to them, or no design or customization features. SetHero was created with a designers touch. I always feel that's important as we're a company that does design, who operates in a creative field, so everything we send to the client should reflect our good tastes in general design. SetHero gives you that. The other thing I like about SetHero is the support, they are on top of things to ensure all your questions are answered. It's impressive when the company's founder reaches out to help with an issue or listens to your ideas about new feature suggestions. Very impressive support. The biggest issue with SetHero for us is the pricing structure, which is charged by the number of projects. We're a small company, so subscription costs must be scrutinized. But we also do a lot of productions, and being restricted to 15 projects is a problem. That level fits our budget, but it makes us choose whether a client is important enough to use a call sheet like this. There are plenty of free options for making call sheets and production books, but why must I use more than one app to do this? If I'm paying for an app subscription, I want to use that app and not be restricted by the costs of a software package that has zero ROI. I might as well use a Google Doc or Sheet.

Secondly, I'd also love a way to publish all the days of a shoot at once instead of having to do one day at a time; this is terribly inefficient. Please give me that option. Lastly, my employees want an app. Everything has an app, so why not SetHero? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

For me, it's a long-desired development that takes a big load off my shoulders, mostly when shooting commercials or short films. Splitting the CallSheet and checking that all segments have been reached and accepted with a shooting plan, all in a couple of clicks. Now that's an amazing thing. Well, of course there is still room for improvement for such a young software system, for example partial data exchange between different projects or for non-English language productions a more convenient language module switch or better customisation of outgoing messages would be nice.

This time around, one of our scenes went missing between exporting the Cinapse file of the schedule and creating the call sheet and I didn’t notice until we were on set. When Studiobinder--which I'd been using for years--changed it's subscription tiers to make it cost-prohibitive for users like me to be able to track views and confirmations, I found Set Hero.
