Since we handle 4-6 projects each year, I appreciate having a "bank" of people to choose from—this means that even if someone is removed from a specific project, they remain listed under "All People." I also found the software easy to learn. The mobile app interface is sleek and modern. Our crew and cast like it. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** It's not easy to build the call sheets on mobile devices (though reading them is easy for the end user). Because of this, I usually build them out on my laptop in advance and then access via my phone just to update the call time and publish. The SD info is missing from the mobile call sheet, so I end up having to print the daily PDF to have full information. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Creating call sheets. ### 2. I moved to Los Angeles from India about five years ago for film school, and now I work full time as a filmmaker and First Assistant Director. When I came across Set Hero, I was instantly sold. The biggest strength of Set Hero for me is how much time it saves. Creating call sheets used to take hours, but now it feels effortless. From adding or removing people, inserting locations, and updating numbers, to publishing and sending call sheets, everything is quick and intuitive. The workflow is incredibly smooth, especially on busy shoot days when time is tight. Everyone on set has complimented the call sheets made through Set Hero. They look clean, professional, and easy to read. It has become an essential part of my production process, and I honestly don’t see myself switching to anything else. Set Hero has made my job as a First AD significantly easier. It’s one of those tools that truly understands how film crews work. Many of the shows I work on have a large number of background actors, and it would be great to include their names and roles directly in the call sheet. The software has been thoughtfully designed and is beautifully executed. It makes distributing critical logistics info a breeze, and is actually fun to use. Customer support has proven fast and efficient over the handful of times I needed to reach out to them. With easy to implement tools you'll be able to integrate it right into your workflow, and accomplish more, faster. It's the best call sheet software out there -- hands down! **What do you dislike about SetHero?** Though excellent in so many ways, SetHero still has a few aspects that I have found I need to wrestle with from time to time. One is figuring out the number of people and trying to juggle plans if more folks are added. Also subscriptions have always seemed to me somewhat burdensome, but this seems to be the way so many companies do things today in order to continue development and maintain support, so it's not a surprise. The nice thing is that the support team is sympathetic and helps work through such things! **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Organzing and Disseminating information efficiently is what SetHero helps me with. If you think of something you want to do, there's likely a way to do it, as it's already been thought of. Those are the most intuitive apps, where if you can think of it, you can do it. Plus, the look of the call sheet is well designed, some apps have a spreadsheet-type feel to them, or no design or customization features. SetHero was created with a designers touch. I always feel that's important as we're a company that does design, who operates in a creative field, so everything we send to the client should reflect our good tastes in general design. SetHero gives you that. The other thing I like about SetHero is the support, they are on top of things to ensure all your questions are answered. It's impressive when the company's founder reaches out to help with an issue or listens to your ideas about new feature suggestions. Very impressive support. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** The biggest issue with SetHero for us is the pricing structure, which is charged by the number of projects. We're a small company, so subscription costs must be scrutinized. But we also do a lot of productions, and being restricted to 15 projects is a problem. That level fits our budget, but it makes us choose whether a client is important enough to use a call sheet like this. There are plenty of free options for making call sheets and production books, but why must I use more than one app to do this? If I'm paying for an app subscription, I want to use that app and not be restricted by the costs of a software package that has zero ROI. I might as well use a Google Doc or Sheet. Secondly, I'd also love a way to publish all the days of a shoot at once instead of having to do one day at a time; this is terribly inefficient. Please give me that option. Lastly, my employees want an app. Everything has an app, so why not SetHero? **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Multiple people in our office will typically be assigned to build a production book or call sheet for a project. This makes for inconsistencies, errors, or even inferior design looks that all affect the general usefulness of a production book. Some people are simply better than others at doing this. And details can be missed, wrong phone numbers, wrong titles, etc. With a built-in database of contacts, this problem is solved. With SetHero, every book is consistently well designed and implemented with standard features our clients expect to see. Consistency for every production and a very professional approach to any and all projects, makes us look good. ### 7. Splitting the CallSheet and checking that all segments have been reached and accepted with a shooting plan, all in a couple of clicks. Now that's an amazing thing. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** Well, of course there is still room for improvement for such a young software system, for example partial data exchange between different projects or for non-English language productions a more convenient language module switch or better customisation of outgoing messages would be nice. It takes all the raw data input that goes into a call sheet and organizes it beautifully and quickly, with tons of options for customization and formatting. They also make it really easy to send the call sheets directly to cast and crew, with e-mail and text options available, making it really simple to get the info to those who need it on your film production. As someone who runs a small film production company, SetHero makes a process that would otherwise involve a lot of formatting so much simpler, and their prices are very reasonable. Seriously, a great and very helpful website! **What do you dislike about SetHero?** One downside to using SetHero is that for it to work smoothly, you have to do a decent amount of work up front in data input, and it has to be formatted properly for SetHero to automatically use all the data to populate the actual call sheets. To be fair, you would have to do similar work if you were making call sheets totally from scratch, but it is a sizable amount of work up front, especially for a larger film production - not too difficult if you already have your data pretty well organized about your cast, crew, and schedule, but still something that has to be done in order to fully get the best use out of SetHero. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** SetHero is helping me to create call sheets that look amazing and have everything formatted properly, to make my life easier as a small indie film director and producer. ### 14. Its level of detail is what I used working on international blockbusters as a 2nd/3rd AD. Very impressed with their customer care, and I love that they are investing in our youth, allowing free student accounts. What was a poorly produced student short film, is instantly a teaching ground of the highest level allowing for ownership of production, call times and essential set, cast and crew details. This has hands down upskilled our students more than any other tool on a production level and given them intentionality and organization that is a must for a great film! **What do you dislike about SetHero?** Interface slightly hard to use at first, but I see these flaws being ironed out everytime I teach it to students. My crew likes how it is all laid out. I like the tutorial videos that come out. They're nice to learn and see ways to improve my call sheets. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** I think it would be nice if there was an option to automatically send out our call sheets the night before. I've just been manually doing it for my crew. The new autofill option is also a lifesaver! I do love that all the elements are there so you can't forget certain parts of the day. The extra notes sections are my favorite and also the easy way to toggle on and off certain people's contact information. Similar to contacts, once the locations are all in, it is super convenient. The ability to view past projects all in one place works very well in order to duplicate a project that will be similar. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** When you have crew members that aren't there for all the days of the shoot, I dislike how uou can't take them out till the day of. e.i. When you toggle them to be in ghost mode/absent for a shoot, it ends up doing it for all the days. I also wish for when you list cast members that they don't ask for a number or letter and that it would autofill at least. It also can sometimes LAG a lot. And the drop downs sometimes cause extra steps that wouldn't be the case if it was a big excel sheet, etc. I also dislike how finnicky the time is for call times and it's sometimes takes too long to put a precall for some folks and later call for others. If there was a way to apply all call times and not have to click those extra buttons just to change a couple crews' times, that would be great. Sometimes when taking away or adding days to a shoot, the __of__days will not autopopulate correctly. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Working remotely amongst team members and having multiple people contribute to call sheets. Keeping track of all contacts across multiple projects so that it's easy to reach out when at a different city, etc. ### 17. Smart features such as being able to push all call times by a certain increment of time, or having map directions linked within the call sheet itself, are some of my favorites. Cast and crew always appreciate distribution of call sheets via both text and email (with personalized call times for each person within the text), and I love the ability for me to see live updates of call time confirmations, allowing me to see if there is anyone I need to follow up with. It is also just so clean and organized, giving my call sheets a refreshing, easy to read look. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** There are a couple features that don't allow for specific customization, but I know the developers have worked on that in the latest updates. I also don't like that it doesn't provide the ability to have a two day advanced schedule at the bottom, limiting it to just one. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to spend more time on set, assisting my 1st AD because I don't have to spend as much time locked to my computer, creating call sheets. I really enjoy how it allows me to organize my contacts and use them across all of my projects. Additionally I'm able to give easy admin access to the production team members that need it. Once you've got the scenes, cast, crew and locations loaded you're able to very easily build up the call sheet and customize it with various options. Perhaps my most favorite feature is the ability to distribute the call sheet to the cast and crew with just a few clicks. It can send it by phone and e-mail, but even better is that it tracks when people open it - both date and time. You can't keep people from saying "I didn't get the call sheet..." but you can show them proof they got it when they do. The call sheets even have clickable links that can take people to Google maps for directions to base camp or set. At the end you can create the production reports that use all of the information that was put in the call sheet. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** ***FOLLOW UP TO REVIEW*** SetHero followed up with me and let me know that the scheduler export is back. Sure enough it is and working great. I was able to easily pull my schedule from Movie Magic Scheduler and import it into SetHero. So happy to have this functionality back! Thank you SetHero! It used to have a tool where you could take a Movie Magic Scheduler export, import it and create the spreadsheet the program needs to build up the scenes. It made it a lot easier to build up the call sheets. The company will do it for you on their backend if you send them your file, but that keeps you from making any last minute changes, which let's be honest happens a lot in this industry. I don't think this could quite work for a large feature, but it's definitely very powerful for Indie projects. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Creating easy to read and distribute callsheets. ### 20. The confirmations and view counts also offer a ton of peace of mind that the CS was recieved by cast and crew. I love using it, especially on long term shoots. Set up takes a minute but once everyone is imported its a breeze. Not to mention that the callsheets are the nicest and easiest to read layout I've seen. The text message portion is also incredibly easy to use on the crew side, which means my crew loves SetHero callsheets. I also love that i can import my crew lists and scenes and locations from spreadsheets with ease. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** Every now and then there are bugs, but they get fixed quickly and communication is great! The ability to transfer an account to another owner would be nice (I've set it up for people in the past and was unable to hand over the keys fully if I remember correctly). Having a mobile app to review who has checked and opened the call sheets would be nice, but the web browser on the phone does a good enough job. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Set Hero makes it easy for me to deliver official call sheets to everyone involved in the process... from the crew and cast to the agency reps and clients. I can create a call sheet in an hour instead of 3-4. I also love that it publishes digitally and sends call times to phones all in a seamless process. It looks really good on the web app interface, where you get all the call sheet information as if it was an app, without having to install anything. The quick linking for phone numbers and maps is nice too. When working on productions, this is so helpful that I have paid out of pocket for the option when production was hesitant to spend the money. Worth every penny. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** The main downside is internet. If you are out and about without internet then that makes it kind of non viable. I love the way that everyone has to confirm and I can see when they looked at the call sheet as well as when they confirmed. I also like that you can make changes and can either notify everyone when changes are made or do it silently. I feel embarrassed when i have to send a whole new call sheet for one typo. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** it can be a little glitchy when someone is on the call sheet more than once. I've used SetHero for many projects, mostly commercial film. I did use it for one movie (as the production coordinator). One of the biggest perks of using SetHero is the capacity to send call sheets VIA TEXT and email. It's life-changing. There are no excuses that you didn't see an emailed call sheet, or a call sheet update when you literally get a text to your phone. AND you can see who's viewed the call sheet, how many times they've viewed it, and people can confirm their call time from the text or email. **What do you dislike about SetHero?** There are some very picky things that I don't like about SetHero. I'm not going to list them, but there are a few small things that aren't very intuitive, which means that if I have a 2nd AD on a project, I do have to train them on SetHero if they haven't used it. But honestly, its still the most intuitive thing out there by far. It's the best thing I've found for call sheets. Studiobinder seems great in theory, but the site is always down, don't do it. You'll be in the middle of a project and for a half hour to an hour can't access your call sheets. That's an eternity. SetHero is always up and running and very very intuitive compared to anything else out there. **Recommendations to others considering SetHero:** Try it for a project. It's fairly inexpensive, and definitely worth giving it a shot. If you're not using call sheets already, start with a free one like simplecallsheets.com, especially if you have a tiny crew and the call sheets don't need to have lots of info. I don't use SetHero for day shoots with a crew of 3 people. That's unnecessary. But for shoots over a few days with a crew of 8 or more, it's life changing. **What problems is SetHero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Call sheets are so easy to make, and I know that people saw them and are gonna show up on set. If someone didn't see a call sheet, I can follow up with a text making sure they got it. I don't have to be anxious that someone to their shoot days confused and isn't going to show up. It's definitely saved people a time or two (that I've been told) from thinking a shoot was on the 11th instead of the 10th. People aren't perfect.
