I like the ease of use that enables me to quickly create games indistinguishable from high-budget top-down 2D games on the market today. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I dislike lack of an in-built character creation tool, such as Game Character Hub, that could otherwise help to keep all my work in the same place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Isn't a game. But it's a program that allows you to create your own game.
The interface is very friendly and the simplicity is something that doesn't scare people who are unfamiliar with programming and executing games. It has a lot of resources of customization, like music, art and etc.
For the ones that hopes to be a game design, the RPG Maker VX Ace is a good (if not the best) starting point.
For the company, it has a good use about creating simulations agains't simple hacker attacks.
It's not commonly used, but it can be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have only 2 things that i disliked in the RPG Maker VX Ace.
The maximum resolution (640x480) and the lack of new content compared to it's predecessors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I've always been a fan of rpg games and even paid to play them in this regard I think it's fabulous since you can create the game through this fabulous manager and who knows if it becomes popular Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is no problem with this training and development software for business motivation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Is a very flexible software for creating most of features that an RPG has (dialogues manager, controls movement, save system, battle system, etc.).
You can create the worlds as easy as dragging and dropping tiles.
Basically you don't need to worry for anything related to code, and you can focus on the real mechanics and story. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Most of it likes me, the only thing that I would like to be different is its scripting language (it uses Ruby, it would be better if it used Java, javascript, C# or any other "more common" language). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
First of all I must say that RPG Maker Vx Ace is a powerful tool for beginners in the development of video games, but for connoisseurs of programming is an extremely versatile tool where the limit will come defined by your imagination and your technical skills in the use of Ruby as a language of programming.
The tool offers a basic manual for the development of scenarios in 2.5D environments. It contains many features that simplify the implementation of events in the scenarios: transitions, automatic movements, animations. It has a character generator, allowing you to generate protagonists for your work in an easy and fast way.
The tool is oriented to its users to share their resources (graphics, scrips, sounds, among others) to be implemented in personal projects and commercial use, always considering the copyrights defined by each creator, this implies that even with basic knowledge of programming, you can implement scrips of professionals in Ruby development, giving greater professional characteristics to your work.
The incredible thing about this application and its community, is that the tool is not only limited to the development of RPG, adding certain scripts you can change the type of game, such as a game of action and puzzles, the options are many, your creativity will define the variety of options. RPG Maker Vx ACE corresponds to the RPG Maker franchise, which has a large number of similar programs, some older and others more modern. Having a large number of programs focused on the same creative goal (RPG videogame development) segments the community of content creators a lot and when a new RPG Maker comes up the community constantly migrates to the most current. It would be ideal to have a single application of RPG Maker that is updated with different DLC that allow to add innovative features and not create a new program.
RPG Maker VX Ace, like every RPG Maker program before it, comes with a fully loaded library of presets for you to play around with and use at your leisure This helps to alleviate the extremely steep learning curve that is inherent to the program. Native documentation and helps are sparse and vague when it comes to the actual mechanics and utilization of the different game variables and settings. Fortunately, another one of the best things about the RPG Maker series of programs is the die hard user base that provide third party support in a multitude of ways. There are plenty of freeware RPG Maker games, demos, scripts, sprites, tilesets, animations, tutorials, etc. available in vast amounts for anyone to use. Some of these media additions are now being sold for low prices due to the advent of content marketing platforms such as Steam, but the availability of information and media is still quite abundant. The learning curve as I previously mentioned can take quite some time to adapt to. True proficiency and comprehension of the scope of capabilities that RPG Maker provides are difficult to come by, so most projects end up in development hell or released as sub-par fan games. Outside knowledge of scripting style languages will give you a huge boost in design manipulation, and computer graphic design- especially sprite and tile modeling are also huge assets to have. No one ever said a AAA JRPG style piece of game software should be easy to make, or able to be developed overnight - this engine and library in a shell reinforces that concept heavily by not completely holding your hands - but still providing enough to keep your mouth watering and anticipating your next unique design move to establish your own IP. RPG Maker was designed to focus on a particular genre (japanese role-playing games) and it does it particularly well. Just like GameMaker, RPG Maker provides a visual editor that allows beginners dwelve into game development without that much of a hassle, while providing more experienced developers with a scripting system, based on Ruby, with which more complex systems can be developed, like a jib system, advanced inventories, and even overhauling the battle mechanics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The main problem with RPG Maker is that the gap between the visual editor and the scripting system is abysmal. This means that the visual editor has plenty of shortcomings compared to the more powerful alternative, resulting in plenty of games that will look and feel the same.
Also, resources available through Steam are very expensive, making it even harder for amateurs and beginners to have unique sprites and audio effects in their game. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
