## Progression Reviews
  ### 1. Great platform to build a career ladder and measuring performance against it

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Travis N. | Director Of Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

I loved that I could build a career ladder by leveraging like organizations that had public profiles. I also loved that my teams could track their wins against those ladders and have it all visible for managers and ICs during performance reviews.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

A minor annoyance was that some of the out of the box frameworks and skills had localiziation to en-gb vs en-us. This meant I needed to go edit all of those skills before adding to my career ladders (en-us). There were small bugs here and there, but the Progression team was really quick to address and fix them.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Progression helped us build out career ladders in a very collaborative way within my organization. It was greating being able to pull in public skills and frameworks, then customize to meet the needs of my organization. Additionally, the check-ins and wins tracking was very helpful in our performance review process.

  ### 2. Working Smarter, Not Harder

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lauren S. | People Operations Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Building a career progression framework is an incredibly important project, but it's an enormous overhaul - Progression makes it feel like a fraction of the work if you were trying to do this from scratch. The AI tool they have is super helpful and easy to use once you get the hang of it. They've got an incredibly fair pricing point and extremely helpful customer service. They saved us months of work. Highly recommend!

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

When the AI tool errors out, it doesn't save what you've inputted. However, we've shared this feedback and I know they are working continually to improve the AI experience and this doesn't happen often enough to deter me using the product. The pros outweigh this one growing point 10-fold.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed to organize the responsibilities and expectations for positions across the company at each level in order to show growth pathways for folks that wanted to progress within the company.

  ### 3. Progression makes your career framework visible

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Isaac G. | Agile Transformation Coach, Release Train Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

I love that Progression captures your current state career framework. There are so many tools to help import or even create your framework. Once you have it captured, you can then start to iterate and improve it. Each check-in cycle is a beautiful opportunity to iterate and become more accurate. Conversations around career paths are critical, and Progression facilitates them around check-ins and even during the in-between as people use the other features. Make your career framework visible and see people start to value the behaviors you value. Then make it better!

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

The AI generation needs a few cycles before you can get quality content from it. While I look forward to future improvements, my recommendation is to stick to the pre-written or shared frameworks and skills from other companies and Progression as your starting point.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We did not have visibility of our career framework. People didn't know what was expected from them in their roles, and we were struggling to promote a stable cultural expectation. By capturing what we thought we had in Progression, we enabled conversations that showed blind spots that needed attention. Now, we can easily communicate core cultural expectations to everyone, show promotion paths, facilitate good conversations with managers, and accurately assess which skills we have and which ones we need. I appreciate the wins feature that enables positive reinforcement at the peer level. The open communication and expectations make meaningful conversations more likely across our company.

  ### 4. Takes the guesswork out of career development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rocío G. | Senior People Operations Manager III , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

TLDR: Progression provides invaluable tools for empowering individual team members to take ownership of their career growth, enabling managers to be effective leaders in stewarding professional development, and mitigating bias and subjectivity to support a fair and equitable evaluation process (which informs decisions for performance reviews, promotions, and role changes).

- Best-in-class, responsive customer success team and ongoing support
- Intuitive and easy-to-navigate UX/UI, including pre-built skill libraries and frameworks that make it relatively quick and easy to get started
- Reduces friction in delivering constructive feedback by making it easy to connect to concrete skills needed to succeed
- Facilitates shared understanding and collaborative goal-setting for "leveling up" or pursuing "track changes" for individuals
- Provides a single source of truth for what's expected for every role and level across the company
- Enhances team engagement via feedback and wins

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

I can't say there is much that we actually dislike about Progression.

We started out very small when we started using it (<20 team members) and have since grown and been acquired to 250 headcount, and the functionality has scaled very well with our needs.

We see room for them to expand the product to support our more developed performance evaluation processes (which currently live in a separate platform where we're moderately satisfied), and we also see those components in their product roadmap.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. Reducing Attrition / Improving Retention (Training & Development): Career growth is consistently among the top reasons our team members stay at our company. Progression helps us celebrate incremental wins and provides opportunities to support continuous growth. Progression also helps us enhance professional development with a lean POps team because team members have the frameworks and tools at their disposal to understand and plan their individualized growth plans.

2. Increasing Engagement (through Succession Planning): Engaged team members are more likely to invest in internal mentorship and promote our employer brand, serving as a multiplier for the entire organization. By designing a compelling framework in Progression, we can provide enough detail to empower team members to understand their developmental status for self-directing their growth and enable managers to engage in these conversations (in the absence of HRBPs, for smaller to mid-size companies like ours).

3. Enhancing Performance & Productivity: Teams with access to career frameworks that provide clear expectations and guidance for growth have better performance outcomes than those without. Progression frameworks enable managers to be more effective, improving productivity and reducing regrettable attrition, including voluntary turnover and underperformance.

  ### 5. Empowering Employee Growth with Challenges

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Progression excels as an employee evaluation tool, enabling seamless skill tracking and personalized development plans. Its user-friendly interface simplifies feedback and empowers skill growth. The app's insights aid in talent allocation and training decisions, fostering engagement through transparent skill mapping. Overall, Progression offers a valuable platform for effective employee development and progress monitoring.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

Progression does have some downsides to consider. Its complexity might lead to a learning curve for both employees and administrators. Customization options could be limited, potentially not aligning perfectly with unique evaluation processes. Additionally, its reliance on technology raises concerns about data privacy and security. Regular updates and support may also impact user experience and stability.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Progression is solving our skill management challenges by providing a structured platform for tracking and developing employee skills. It streamlines skill assessment and feedback, enabling personalized development plans. This benefits us by fostering skill growth, identifying strengths and gaps, and facilitating informed talent allocation. With Progression, our workforce becomes more engaged and motivated to enhance their abilities, contributing to our overall organizational success.

  ### 6. Career management at scale!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

As a design leader part ir my job is to keep track of many career management aspects.

From the career framework, to our skills portfolio, the level and career progression of each designer and their achievements, progression covers everything and helps me manage career at scale!

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

It's still a young product and company, so expect to have a few features that feel like MVPs.

But my main dislike is how they try to quantify the career progression, by overly simplifying if a designer is performing or not. Often progression will say someone is x% above their level, triggering some unwanted tricky discussions with direct reports.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Progression helps us keep track of our career framework and what level each designer is.

This helps us understand our skills portfolio and team balance, in terms of seniority.

On top of that, we keep track on how each designer is progressing and their achievements, so when it's feedback time, we have everything in the same platform.

  ### 7. Agile, streamlined progression

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Progression makes it super-easy to collect, review, and track feedback when it comes to performance review time. This can sometimes be a stressful and time-consuming process, but with Progression, all your wins, peer reviews, and manager assessments are stored in one place, which makes follow-up conversations about performance more transparent.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

Nothing. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, so you can dive in and start using the features pretty much straight away without any extensive training or tricky learning curve.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use and transparency. With Progression, it's super easy to request feedback from my colleagues, and everything they write about me or my direct reports is stored right there in the app. In addition, I can invite my reports to assess their own performance against specific skills, which makes it a lot easier to plan follow-up conversations about performance and progression.

  ### 8. Good product but some parts are clunky

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

It's really good from an employees perspective as it helps structure performance reviews really easily and it allows for clear comparisons of colleagues.

The review process as a manager is also easy.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

The set up of roles is complicated and time consuming. It ends up being confusing working out which screen is the right one to set up the role.

It's made longer by the fact you can't copy over details from other roles or levels so you have to manually copy and paste then edit. Fortunately you only need to do this when initially setting up a team/role, but it could have been much quicker.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Personal reviews/managing promotions.

We mainly use it for our employees to guage where they are compared to peers. It has helped make our employee reviews more consistent too.

  ### 9. Progression has helped increase transparency and decrease subjectivity

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tim G. | Development Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Progression increases accountability throughout the organization by encouraging leaders to define structure and expectations to each role clearly.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

Formatting within text fields - some basic markdown would be a welcome addition

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Progression helps us set expectations and facilitate reviews with those same expectations in a single tool. We have organizational skills which are shared by everyone and department/position skills which are distinct and Progression helps us manage both. Progression also greatly helps minimize subjectivity in promotions and career trajectory for everyone in the organization.

  ### 10. Enhance your self

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

You could easily identify what you need to improve to grow, discuss them with your manager, and take action to gain better knowledge. It is easy to use, in most cases.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

Sometimes it is difficult to find categories such as actions, or the pop-ups do not close properly. When reviewing it with the manager, it is not clear if we match in the answer or not.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We find that for some roles, I am missing some necessary points, and we could proceed to write down the required actions to take, in every detail. With that, we will be able to follow the progression I am having.

  ### 11. Great idea, lot of potential

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Great and simple app to roll out a Progression Framework for your organization. They added a library where you can get inspiration with pre-made skills collections and even frameworks from other companies.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

Some minnor bugs with the UI, but they seem to be quite active improving and evolving the product.
Might not be adequate for all cases, we had to adapt our previous Progression Framework to match the format.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before we were using Google Spreadsheets to evaluate each employee agains our Progression Framework template. This simplified a lot the process, it's easir to fill in, and gives much better insights when analyzing results and progression.

  ### 12. Progression review

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Natalie R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

The kudos ability to give recognition to my colleagues. The check-in process. The ability to view the overall career progression within my team.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

There's no option to control which notifications to receive. The interface is a bit confusing when I want to see overall what my action items are I don't know where to look or if that view is available.
The check-in form feels very long and repetitive.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A centralized way to manage feedback and performance and check career progression.

  ### 13. Good tool for performance reviews & co-worker feedback

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Being able to request & send out feedback to co-workers, and the check-in with yourself and your manager against your current and upcoming career level.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

There are a lot of different features and especially as a new user this could be overwhelming and lead to using the product less

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Progression helps me to provide & request instant feedback from my peers and managers whenever I finalize a joint project. it's beneficial when working in large teams with people from various different departments. It helps me check in on my current skills and level, which is important in the performance review and justifying promotions.

  ### 14. Great system for monitoring progress of employees

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caroline C. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Progression allows you to set individual goals for many different job roles; it's really easy to use as a manager and a user.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

You can't export or review the descriptions, so when you want to send the content for someone to review before you actually set the targets, this means copying and pasting into a different tool for suggestions and edits.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us to set expectations for each job role at the company and what is expected to perform at that level and how an employee would progress to the next level. This benefits us as it gives clear expectations for the employees.

  ### 15. Progression experience as a Tech Leader

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sports | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Progression?**

I liked the fact that it was simple and easy to create the different roles and skills. The check-ins are a great way for my engineers to self assess.

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

I was missing connection to our payroll and employee management tools. I would have loved more support to set a career development plan.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a place for us to store our different career tracks and to be able to do self assessment in every check-in and see the progression of your career development

  ### 16. A great way to track my development

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Progression?**

Great UX
Customization of progression frameworks - by dept/team was intuitive
Also a pretty streamined review management tool

**What do you dislike about Progression?**

Nothing that I can think of - I do not have line of sight to the pricing so can only assume you get what you pay for.

**What problems is Progression solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Objective, transparent, and consistent methodology to assessing and promoting employees for their skills and impacts in the company.
