While OrbisGIS is a powerful and user-friendly GIS software, it does come with a few potential drawbacks. One key limitation is that it may not be as feature-rich as some more established commercial GIS options. In addition, because it is open source, it can sometimes be less stable or have more bugs than commercial software. Finally, for people who are new to GIS, OrbisGIS may feel like it has a steeper learning curve, since certain features and plugins require more advanced knowledge of spatial analysis.

  ### 3. Utilized OrbisGIS as a database to house student data

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shelly M. | Career Services and Co-operative Education Administrator, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2018

**What do you like best about OrbisGIS?**

The ease with which the system can be used

**What do you dislike about OrbisGIS?**

The system does not allow for customization. It is difficult to add any new fields as seeing updates to OrbisGIS can take time. Also we had issues with the data upload to Orbis that caused some major issues to our information. We also had duplications of accounts in the database.

**Recommendations to others considering OrbisGIS:**

I would ensure that any fields you require for the database are either already part of the database or can be customized. In addition, it is best to ensure that any information you are uploading to Orbis is correctly uploaded each night, as we had issues with this situation. The updates to Orbis is slow and it can take some time to see improvements to the database.

**What problems is OrbisGIS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to use system to house student data in one place. The database allowed us to use the system to collect and gather information on our co-op success rates in order to validate our programs.
