I use Smarty as part of my day-to-day work in a law firm environment, where accurate address information is extremely important. We regularly work with addresses for properties, individuals, businesses, correspondence, and other information connected to our legal and administrative processes.

Smarty gives us a quick and reliable way to verify that an address is valid and properly formatted before we use it. Rather than relying solely on the information that was originally provided to us or spending additional time manually researching an address, I can enter the information into Smarty and quickly determine whether corrections or adjustments may be needed.

Smarty delivers excellent ROI, providing high confidence address matching and detailed information at a reasonable cost at any scale (hundreds to millions of addresses). Their APIs and results are intuitive to understand and provide developers flexibility for any database or architecture that their enterprise uses. Responses are lightning fast, and I've only noticed the service down once in the 1.5 years we have used Smarty services. Their data is the backbone of a growing initiative to unify addresses across our massive organization, and we definitely made the right choice, one that will fit well in each stage of this long-term project.

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

There are certain kinds of address that create matching issues, and aliases are a constant problem that Smarty is working on. These gaps are systematic, so it can create problems for certain parts of your business. But any address product will struggle with these areas, and I have found their customer service to be responsive and transparent.

**What do you like best about Smarty?**

Smary provides address validation for multiple countries. For our project, we specifically needed validation features for at least the UK and Australia, and this covered that requirement.

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

We used Smarty for UK address lookup and verification, and overall the experience was solid — the API was reliable, easy to integrate, and did a good job verifying a single address once you had one typed in. Support and documentation were also fine, no complaints there.

The problem was the address search feature itself. When a user typed in their postcode to find their address from a list, Smarty would only ever show up to 10 addresses for that postcode — even when the postcode actually had far more properties than that (blocks of flats with 50, 60, 80+ units aren't unusual in the UK). In practice, that meant a real chunk of our users couldn't find their own address in the list and had to type it in manually, which is exactly the friction this kind of tool is supposed to remove.

We checked whether a higher-tier plan would fix this, and it won't — it's a fixed limit on how the product works, not a usage cap. For an address lookup tool, that's a significant gap, because it means the feature quietly fails for a meaningful share of addresses in the country it's built for.

It's a shame, because the underlying product is decent, but this limitation directly affects the experience of the people using our platform. We've decided not to renew our contract with Smarty and have moved to a provider that returns a full, uncapped list of addresses per postcode.

Our current UK address search experience isn't well-suited to that workflow because the number of results returned is limited. We're always looking for ways to improve our services, including how we handle result limits in scenarios like this. At the moment, though, we don't offer a UK autocomplete experience specifically designed around postcode-first lookup, and we’ll work on being clearer about that expectation.

We are using Smarty’s International Autocomplete Address service, and our experience has been excellent. The service is reliable, accurate, and works very well across all our business verticals. It has significantly improved our address validation and autocomplete experience, making it easier for customers to enter correct address information.

Integration has also been smooth on our side, and the overall setup fit well into our existing tools and workflows. Support has been responsive and helpful whenever we’ve had questions, which made the rollout even easier. We also appreciate the intelligent behavior of the autocomplete, which helps guide users to the right address and reduces errors.

Overall, we are very satisfied with Smarty’s International Autocomplete service and would highly recommend it. It has been very valuable for us, and we plan to implement it across our remaining internal tools as well. Based on its value and the positive experience so far, we may consider upgrading to a higher-tier plan in the future.

I’m extremely happy with Smarty. The API is very easy to integrate, the support has been spectacular, and the service helps reduce unnecessary shipping costs for our company. I highly recommend it.

When that happens, we pay for the original shipment, the return, and then the replacement shipment essentially tripling our shipping costs. It also protects the customer experience. The API is reliable and the data quality is high. For outbound mail, that’s the whole game: Smarty helps us avoid return-to-sender issues by confirming the address is mailable before we send.

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

Two gaps:
1. Smarty verifies that an address is mailable, but it doesn’t tell you whether a business is actually at that address. I’d love a feature that checks occupancy / whether the company is really there.
2. Billing is frustrating. I’m on a plan with a monthly fee (about $17) plus a credit quota (~$1,000). I only burn through that quota every ~2 months, so I’m effectively paying twice for the credits I use. Pure usage-based billing (pay for credits as I go, no monthly floor when I’m under quota) would fit how we actually consume the API.

We are very pleased that we onboarded Smarty at ALS Network. We use it to help people fill out complete and accurate addresses on our online forms. The plug in was very easy to add as well. In terms of adding much needed accessibility features and reducing friction for people interacting with our website, Smarty was the right choice! We have also used the bulk address verification for a one-off project and it was extremely helpful.

As a developer, I found Smarty very easy to integrate into our C#/.NET and JavaScript projects. We also haven’t experienced any downtime with their service so far. When we’ve needed help, their support team has responded quickly, and the pricing feels reasonable for what we get.

It would be helpful to be able to set up a monthly budget, so that if a service auto-renews unexpectedly multiple times within the same month, it doesn’t end up exceeding what I planned to spend.

When we first started using Smarty, we didn’t realize that some Suite addresses weren’t yet integrated into the Smarty solution. I believe this has since been updated, but early on it was probably our biggest challenge, even though it was fairly minor overall.

The API is super easy to integrate with, was able to use it with a voice agent, to quickly look up addresses using fuzzy match, and correct speech to text weirdness that happened.

We were having trouble collecting addresses via voice. We would often get the user to spell the address, which is imperfect, and this would lead to a clunky experience. The REST API was straightforward to integrate, suggestions are responsive, and the structured address and ZIP data fit our forms well. Domain-restricted website keys and ZIP filtering are also useful for our setup.

It was very fast and easy to get the addresses reviewed. Additionally, the depth of returned material was nice. It is great to know more about addresses, why they may be invalid or their status in addition to just correcting the physical material. Sorting the outputs into categories was incredibly helpful to my analysis, and made decision-making a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

Smarty returned in depth material, but upon review some of the invalid addresses returned were simple errors of formatting. For example, 123MAIN STREET was deemed invalid. Upon investigation and re-running, 123 MAIN STREET was valid. It was minorly frustrating to have several errors, such as BOB CAT versus BOBCAT, or RED BUD versus REDBUD, completely throw the system off.

**What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In rural areas, addresses can go by many names and utilize complicated suffix/street name combinations. Additionally, obtaining data that has not been yet cleaned can create a large time commitment to get the addresses cleaned to a USPS standard. Smarty was very helpful in cutting the time commitment to address cleaning in to a small fraction, which is great for the mind and body.

I love how easy it was to set up Smarty. The API was the quickest and most user-friendly integration in our entire stack. Since we use it every day, the reliability and simplicity have been fantastic. There are also many valuable use cases we can support with it. And whenever we’ve needed help, customer support has been responsive and genuinely helpful. Overall, it has been simple, effective, and a pleasure to work with.

So far, there isn't much I don't like about Smarty.  It's useful, easy to use and implement and its really helpful!

**What do you like best about Smarty?**

We are a volunteer organization that has approximately 2500 members.  Quarterly we send out newsletters to our membership via snail mail.  Somehow I was roped into helping with mailings since I take care of our online membership and website.  I was looking for a rather simple web based program that could verify address since our membership list has address that are approximately 30 years old.  With the new bulk mailing rules/process USPS uses we needed something to verify these address and be able to fix them if needed.  Smarty was the best option.  It is not perfect, but it works to verify and even gives changes to address when needed.  We went from approximately 300 address being kicked out by USPS to approximately 20-30 now.  With bulk mailing you pay whether it is delivered to an address or not.  Smarty definitely saved us money the first few mailings.  The best part of Smarty is that I think they are one of the only companies that never tried to upsell us. As a not for profit volunteer organization money can be a bit tight some days....

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

We have to buy two licenses each month of use.  They don't have an in between user option.  Some address are still kicked out by USPS verification tool, but that is minor.

Ease of use for address verification.  Our volunteer's do not always keep accurate records.

**What do you like best about Smarty?**

Their CS, Sales and Support teams are very good at communicating if we have any questions or issues. They provide good API documentation and can accommodate both address auto-complete and validation requirements for the US and International addresses. They were very responsive to our feedback and added a new requirement we asked for.

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

There are some inconsistencies with the accuracy of validations for different countries. There are also quite a lot of detail passed through the API so it's a bit difficult to know how strict we should be with our address validation. If they offered best practices or different "levels" of validation, that would be great. It's nice that now we know commercial vs. residential addresses so we can control the the level of address validation for both use cases.

**What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We ship products from our warehouse to different parts of the world. Our warehouse and supply chain team previously had to manually flag and update any incorrect addresses, but with Smarty, we can pass on this responsibility to our customer, before the order even reaches our warehouse and vendors. It has reduced our manual process.

I really appreciate how Smarty's API is organized to deliver precisely the type of address and place data I need. Compared to other APIs, such as Google, it is much more developer-friendly. Using it is a pleasure. It’s straightforward to implement, and the data quality has consistently been excellent.

**What do you dislike about Smarty?**

Honestly, if you work extensively with addresses, Smarty can feel somewhat pricey, particularly when it comes to the autocomplete API. Striking the right balance between a responsive user experience and the number of API calls is challenging, and it's easy to hit your usage limits, even during development.

Smarty makes it simple to obtain accurate addresses in a user-friendly way. The autocomplete feature works very well, and the address verification is also excellent. We mainly rely on it to clean up user input, and for that purpose, it has truly been a pleasure to use.

It is very easy to use and to implement not experts skills needed to conduct functions on this tool.
This tool has great pricing plans hence gives value for money.

I do not have dislikes. Smarty has been seamless.

This tool reduces cost of production and other hidden costs with unclear terms. It allows users to subscribe for a monthly plan without annual price rises which do not tie us for yearly plans which is a bit expensive. They even offer money back for unused data.

The ease of use. I also like the data spit out. AABB, etc. The data I wasn't positive about accuracy, but it seems to be pretty solid! Ease of implementation and integration is also a key function.

Although most of the api docs are accurate, there are some smaller changes should be reflected in the docs as well to keep them up to date

We use Smarty’s address verification service to double-check addresses and offer suggestions to users before they create shipments. This reduces workload on dealing with returned shipments due to invalid addresses. The detailed address data has also enabled us to customize our shipping logic, such as selecting different shipping providers for PO Box addresses.
