## About Modaal.dev
Modaal is a macOS app for building production-ready native mobile apps with AI. Unlike tools that generate cross-platform wrappers, Modaal produces real Swift/SwiftUI for iOS and real Kotlin/Compose for Android — code you own, export, and ship to the App Store and Google Play. It's built around a PRD-driven workflow with senior mobile architecture enforced at every step, so the output scales past the prototype stage instead of collapsing under its own weight. iOS is generally available; Android is in open beta, with general availability in September 2026. Key Features and Functionality: =Truly native output, both platforms: Swift + SwiftUI for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch; Kotlin + Compose for Android (open beta, GA September 2026). Each platform gets a fully native, HIG- and Material-compliant UI — Liquid Glass on iOS, Material on Android. = Modaal Duet: A shared business-core framework guaranteeing that iOS and Android behave identically. Anything that works on one platform works the same on the other, with native shells on top. Build once, ship two genuinely native apps. Currently available in the Android open beta. = Bring your own AI agent: Works with 13 build agents including Claude Agent, Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cline, and OpenCode. No per-token markup, no vendor lock-in to a single model. = Architecture enforcement: A PRD-first workflow and architectural guardrails mean generated code follows real app structure — not throwaway demo code that has to be rewritten before launch. = Project templates: Start from a template via the New Project wizard, including a 2D game / interactive app template built on SpriteKit. = Distribution built in: TestFlight and App Store submission, Google Play publishing, and Git integration for team collaboration. = Full code ownership: Export your codebase at any time. No proprietary runtime, no platform dependency. = Free tier, no card required: One active project, unlimited prompts with no message caps, your choice of iOS or Android, native builds, and code export — free forever.

**What do you like best about Modaal.dev?**

Modaal.dev feels like an actual agentic build partner for native iOS/Android, not just a code generator. I've used it to ship full features end-to-end for BookBank: Book Clubs, Bookshelf, and an Accessibility page, while keeping architecture consistent across RIBs, SwiftUI, and Firebase. It also caught real security issues on its own, like flagging four vulnerabilities in a Book Clubs audit and refusing to reintroduce an unsafe Firestore rule I'd previously removed.

**What do you dislike about Modaal.dev?**

The Firebase panel has been the biggest pain point, it's thrown persistent false errors (HTTP 403, "no apps registered") even when CLI access clearly confirmed everything was fine. Re-authenticating with the same Google account sometimes fixes it, but not reliably, so I've ended up managing Firebase mostly through the console directly and avoiding Create/Register/Deploy actions in the panel altogether.

The local Claude Agent login also expires unpredictably, causing 401 errors mid-session. The fix is just logging out and back in, but it interrupts flow when it happens without warning.

**What problems is Modaal.dev solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a one-person founding team without a full-stack engineer, I don't have the bandwidth for a large native mobile team, but I still wanted a genuinely native (not cross-platform-compromise) iOS and Android experience for BookBank. Modaal.dev solves that gap: it lets me, as the product designer driving vision and strategy, actually participate in building real features: Book Clubs, Bookshelf, Accessibility, without needing to hand every spec off and wait on engineering capacity we don't have.

The bigger benefit is speed without cutting corners on things that would normally get skipped at our stage: proper Firestore security rules audits, HIG compliance, accessibility support tied to live system state. Those are the kind of things a resource-constrained early team often defers, but Modaal makes it feasible to bake them in from the start rather than retrofitting them later.
