## About MatterScribe
MatterScribe is an AI-powered transcription platform built for legal professionals. It converts court audio, depositions, hearings, and other legal proceedings into searchable transcripts with speaker identification and timestamps. MatterScribe is one of the only transcription services with native support for ForTheRecord (.TRM) files — the proprietary audio format used in thousands of courtrooms across the United States. Legal professionals who work with .TRM court recordings can upload files directly — MatterScribe automatically converts them to MP3 and generates a transcript, eliminating the need for the Windows-only FTR Player application. The platform also accepts standard audio and video formats including MP3, MP4, WAV, and others. The platform is entirely web-based and works on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, Chromebook, and Linux — any device with a modern browser. No software installation is required. Core functionality includes AI-generated transcripts from court audio and legal recordings, speaker identification and labeling across multiple participants, timestamped transcript lines synced to audio playback, click-to-listen playback that jumps to the corresponding audio for any line in the transcript, automatic .TRM to MP3 conversion, and export of transcripts to PDF and DOCX. MatterScribe is designed for attorneys, paralegals, court reporters, legal aid organizations, judges, and other legal professionals who need working transcripts faster than traditional transcription turnaround times allow. AI transcription delivers rough drafts in minutes rather than the days or weeks typical of manual transcription services, at a fraction of the cost. The platform does not replace certified court reporters or official transcription. It provides immediate working transcripts for case preparation, hearing review, motion drafting, and internal reference — giving legal teams access to the record while certified transcripts follow through traditional channels. MatterScribe offers tiered pricing with a Professional plan at $25/month (1,250 minutes, 7-day retention) and a Professional Plus plan at $50/month (3,000 minutes, 30-day retention). A 14-day free trial with 120 minutes is available for new users. Founded in Portland, Oregon, MatterScribe was built by legal operations professionals with direct experience in family law firm practice and court proceedings.

## MatterScribe Reviews
  ### 1. Fast, Searchable Hearing Transcript Tool That Makes Testimony Easy to Find

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2026

**What do you like best about MatterScribe?**

I love that the program works quickly to provide searchable PDF transcripts of hearings (from FTR audio files), making it easy to determine when parties or witnesses testified about specific issues or made specific statements.

**What do you dislike about MatterScribe?**

Sometimes the program has trouble identifying the speaker correctly, but it seems that this is based on the number of microphones in the courtroom and which microphone is picking up the speaker. For instance, sometimes the same speaker will be identified as two different speakers.

**What problems is MatterScribe solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me quickly pinpoint when, during a hearing, certain facts came up or specific lines of questioning occurred. That makes it much easier for me to zero in on the exact time in the FTR audio files. Then, if I need a court-certified transcript I am able to quickly direct the transcriber to the time of the hearing, saving me time and my clients money.

  ### 2. MatterScribe Makes FTR Transcription Fast, Easy, and Effortless

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about MatterScribe?**

MatterScribe has been a genuinely impressive addition. Transcribing FTR files is far less tedious and time consuming with this program.

The interface is easy to understand. Uploading files, converting them to MP3, and generating transcripts is easy.

The biggest benefit is that instead of having a staff member take an hour or more to transcribe the hearing, it's done in the background while I am doing other work.

The built-in MP3 conversion is another thoughtful touch. Being able to quickly download clean, accessible audio files alongside transcripts streamlines everything and makes it really easy to share the court audio files without having to talk someone through downloading FTR software. Being able to drag and drop a ZIP folder into the program and have it convert the audio seamlessly is such a bonus.

Overall, MatterScribe delivers exactly what you want from a tool like this. It takes a traditionally tedious process and turns it into something efficient.

**What do you dislike about MatterScribe?**

The interface is still learning how to identify speakers when there are multiple voices talking at once, but the MatterScribe team is always working to improve the program and I am sure this will not be an issue for long. Customer service is great, and they will answer any questions you have.

**What problems is MatterScribe solving and how is that benefiting you?**

More than anything, MatterScribe makes it easy to incorporate the findings from the trial court into the final judgment. Instead of taking hasty and panicked notes while the judge is giving their ruling, I can relax knowing that I'll be able to easily review the transcript in just a day or two. It takes longer for the court to get me the FTR files than it does to get a transcript of the hearing.

  ### 3. Fast, Low-Cost Hearing Transcription That Helps Me Prep for Trial.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2026

**What do you like best about MatterScribe?**

It is very useful for me to be able to transcribe hearings quickly at very little cost when I don't need official transcripts. Drafting orders, preparing for trial , etc.

**What do you dislike about MatterScribe?**

I cannot cntrl F when I am on the matterscribe website. I know there are other search options but when moving quickly my brain auto moves to cntrl f to search for key words

**What problems is MatterScribe solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to not have to listen to the FTR which is very time consuming.
