Confusing configuration – The settings to adjust this are unclear **What problems is Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** In our daily routine, the team rarely stops to recognize each other. We have a sprint retrospective session that includes space for this, but it always feels very generic—usually just one general piece of feedback for the whole team. My colleagues and I missed receiving direct, day-to-day recognition for our work. That’s why we tested Matter, which was really helpful in making us pause—especially at the end of the week—to give feedback and kudos to one another. The gamification aspect also motivated us to do this more consistently and made it fun. While it was effective for addressing our needs, we faced issues configuring the bot. Whenever someone failed to complete missions or give kudos to colleagues, it would send excessive notifications in our Teams channel—tagging people directly, which became uncomfortable. What started as a lighthearted practice turned frustrating due to notification overload and invasive alerts cluttering our feed. Whether you’re tech-savvy or not, navigating the app feels effortless. The design prioritizes simplicity, so users can quickly jump into giving and receiving feedback without the frustration of a complicated setup or overwhelming options. I enjoy the integration with Slack and the ease with which you can celebrate team wins, birthdays and work anniversaries. It supports people using it frequently and I like the reminders and that it doesn't take long to use. **What do you dislike about Matter?** The range of apps it integrates with is still limited and growing but this would be the only drawback for me. **What problems is Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** Often you get too busy in the workweek to stop and give thanks to all the people who support or do a really good job in the company, this makes employee recognition simple, fast and seamless with the workday as it integrates to Slack which is where we do most of our communication. It also allows you to see what people are appreciative on in the team and highlight stand out team players. ### 27. It works perfectly in Slack which is our main line of internal communication. So easy to leave public or private feedback too! Matter has put kudos in the hands of individual staff, giving them each the power to make a difference in our culture. This has also increased visibility of the great things our part-time staff do. **What do you dislike about Matter?** Matter often kicks off Monday messages on national holidays. It would be nice if I could click a box to default these messages to the next day. I find we get much less engagement when these messages are posted on work holidays; many of us still work these, but many are away and staff are cognisant of when they post and who gets a notification. **What problems is Matter solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had a morale problem; everyone was working in a vacuum. Big things got shared but the little thanks bring people joy day to day. An educator might share that the accountant dynamically improved a daily excel schedule, which saves her time. Someone had a spider in their office, and someone jumped in to help. Managers can highlight important behind-the-scenes projects that staff are working on. It's been great. The recoginition, the kudos that our team gets to use, and they can't be stacked so everyone gets a set amount weekly, makes it super easy. We made a very large increase in retention, and we did do a lot, but Matter definitely helped. **What do you dislike about Matter?** The lack of G chat implementation.
