Heads-up for anyone considering ManyChat to manage organic DMs: read the "active contact" definition before you commit. I assumed an "active contact" meant someone I reached through an automation I built. In practice, a contact counts as "active" any time a message is sent or received through the platform — including organic conversations that land in the connected inbox, not just ones an automation started. That distinction isn't clear from the plan names, and the definition lives in fine print most people never read. It adds up quickly: the Essential plan ($14/mo) includes 250 active contacts, then charges $0.10 for every additional contact that month, so one post that drives a wave of DMs can push you over before you notice. I'm still in the trial period and I've decided to cancel. The tool itself works most of the time, but in my opinion the billing model isn't transparent enough about what you're actually paying for. Know exactly what "active contact" means before you connect your accounts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
