**What do you like best about Exalate?**

The scripting flexibility is what sold me. We sync issues between Jira and GitHub and the Groovy-based scripts let us control exactly what gets mapped and what doesn't. Most sync tools force you into rigid field mappings that never quite fit, Exalate actually lets you handle the edge cases. Setup took some time but once it clicked, it just runs.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The learning curve is real. If you're not comfortable with scripting, you'll struggle in the beginning. The documentation is decent but some of the more advanced use cases aren't well covered and you end up digging through community forums. Would be nice to have more ready-made templates.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At Genezio we work with external partners and clients who use different project management tools. Keeping everyone aligned without manually copying updates was a pain. Exalate handles the cross-platform syncing so our team stays in their tools and the other side stays in theirs. Saves us a few hours a week easily.

At AssessPrep, we manage assessments, question banks, and academic workflows on our platform, while our product team works in Jira. Exalate helped connect both systems without forcing either team to change how they work. The flexibility of the synchronization rules made it possible to keep assessment-related requests and development tasks aligned.

Initial setup takes some effort, especially if your workflow is customized. We needed technical input to configure everything correctly, and troubleshooting advanced sync scenarios can be challenging.

Before Exalate, when a client reported an issue with an assessment or requested a feature through AssessPrep, updates had to be manually communicated to the product team in Jira. **What do you like best about Exalate?**

Exalate has been an absolute game-changer for our workflow integration. The tool itself is incredibly powerful, flexible, and handles complex data syncing with ease.

However, what truly sets Exalate apart is their world-class customer success team. Our account representative, German, has been nothing short of amazing. German is incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in our success. It’s rare to find an account rep who goes this far above and beyond.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

There is a bit of a learning curve if you are dive deep into advanced, custom scripting, but the documentation is solid, and with German’s and his team exceptional support, any hurdles we faced were resolved almost instantly.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exalate automatically syncs our tickets, comments, and attachments between the two Jira platforms in real-time. This eliminates manual updates, cuts out endless email chains, and ensures both teams have accurate data instantly. Because of its decentralized security, both sides maintain total control over what data is shared, making it the perfect, secure bridge for our Jira-to-Jira workflows.

We work with clients and candidates across a lot of different regions, and keeeping our internal Jira in sync with client-side tools was always messy. Exalate handles that really cleanly. The fact that both sides control their own sync rules is a big deal for us since we deal with sensitive candidate data and information.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Initial setup took so much longer than we expected. We had to loop in an developer to get the scripts right, which isnt ideal if you want something up and running quickly.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cross-company issue tracking without exposing our internal workflows. We can collaborate with enterprise clients on hiring pipelines without giving them access to our full project board. Saves a lot of back and forth.

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

I really appreciate the decentralized architecture. It allows us and our partner to maintain full control over our own Jira environments. We don't have to give them admin access to our system, and they don't have to give us theirs. It’s the most secure and professional way to sync tasks across different organizations and versions of Jira (Cloud and Server).

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The initial configuration can be time-consuming, especially when bridging different versions of Jira (Cloud vs. On-prem). Because both sides of the connection need to be configured separately to maintain security, it requires a lot of coordination with the partner's admin. This can be challenging when working across different time zones, as any small tweak to the sync logic usually requires verification from both parties

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Exalate is solving the critical challenge of synchronizing our Jira Cloud instance with a partner’s on-premise Server. The biggest benefit has been overcoming the timezone gap; because Exalate uses an asynchronous queuing system, our teams stay aligned even when we aren't working at the same time. This has saved us hours of manual updates and coordination meetings. The scripting flexibility also allows us to handle the complex field mapping required for our technical projects, giving us a reliable, automated bridge between two very different environments.

Our product and engineering teams run on different tools and syncing tasks between them was a constant headache. Exalate solved that without forcing either team to change how they work. The two-way sync is solid and the flexibility in mapping fields is something we havent found in other tools.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The error messages when something breaks in a script are not always clear. You sometimes spend more time debugging than you should. Better
logging would help a lot.

Keeping our product roadmap aligned with engineering sprints across different project boards. Before Exalate, someone had to manually update tickets on both sides. That's gone now.

What we like most about Exalate is its flexibility. The scripting engine allows us to fully control how Jira and Salesforce communicate, even in complex scenarios. It doesn’t feel like a “rigid connector”, it adapts to our processes instead of forcing us to adapt to it.

We also really appreciate its reliability over the years and the quality of the support team, which has always been responsive and knowledgeable when we needed help.

The main challenge is the learning curve. To fully leverage Exalate’s power, you need some technical knowledge, especially around scripting and sync logic. It’s not a plug-and-play tool if you have advanced requirements.

We use Exalate to integrate Jira and ServiceNow ITSM for incident escalation between our support and engineering teams. The biggest advantage is that we get full control over what we want to share: fields, comments, attachments, etc. From an ITSM perspective, this is important since we want to keep ServiceNow as our system of record for incidents, while Jira manages development work. We also added conditional logic like: mapping ServiceNow assignment groups to Jira components, and synchronizing work notes differently from public comments. This was easy with Exalate's scripting capability.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Because the tool is so customizable, there is a slight learning curve if you are moving beyond basic syncs into complex scripting. It’s not a plug-and-play tool for complex ITSM workflows, but once configured properly, it’s stable and reliable. Plus, their AI assistant (Aida) can help generate the sync logic and can significantly cut down deployment time.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a complex ITSM incident escalation use case and Exalate was the right fit. We could customize everything the way we wanted. I’ve set it up so that internal developer chatter stays in Jira, but public "Work Notes" sync back to ServiceNow automatically.
It’s cleared up the communication bottleneck and saved our team roughly 10 hours a week of manual data entry. We’ve seen a 35% faster resolution time on cross-team bugs.w.

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

We've been struggling with syncing Jira and ServiceNow across two different teams for almost a year. Tried a couple of other tools before Exalate and honestly nothing came close to what we needed. the setup took a bit of time to figure out, especially the scripting part, but once it clicked everything just ran smoothly.
What I really liked is that each side of the connection is configured independently. Our partner company doesnt see fields they shouldn't, and we don't get flooded with their internal notes either. That was a big deal for us since we work with external vendors a lot.

The support team was super helpful when we got stuck. they responded within a few hours and actually understood the technical side of things, not just copy/pasting from a FAQ page.

There is a learning curve to get started, but once you're past it, the flexibility and power are hard to beat. Overall, would definitely recommend it for teams that need serious, flexible integrations. Not a plug-and-play solution, but absolutely worth the effort. (edited)

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

The two-way sync between Jira instances is what sold us, and it genuinely works as
advertised. We collaborate with two external partners and before exalate we had
someone manually copying updates across projects every single day. Embarrassing to
admit but that was our actual process. Once we set up exlate the synchronization just
runs in the background comments, status changes, attachments everything stays
aligned without anyone having to babysit it. The field mapping configuration is flexible
enough that we could control exactly what gets shared with each partner and what stays
internal, which was a non-negotiable for us from a data privacy standpoint. Setup took a
bit of time upfront but the exalate team was responsive and helped us get the mappings
right.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Honestly the initial configuration is not something you can figure out in an afternoon,
especially if your Jira setup has a lot of custom fields and workflows. We hit a few edge
cases where certain field types weren't syncing the way we expected and we had to dig
into the mapping rules to troubleshoot. Documentation is decent but could be more
detailed on advanced scenarios. Not a dealbreaker at all, just something to be aware of,
plan for a proper onboarding window rather than assuming you can flip it on in a day.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The core problem was cross-company collaboration on shared projects without giving
external teams access to our internal Jira. We had tried shared boards, export/import
workflows, and email threads. None of it scaled once we had more than a handful of
active tickets moving at the same time. Exalate solved this cleanly. Each company
keeps their own Jira instance and their own workflows, and exalate just syncs the fields
that matter to both sides. Since rolling it out we've basically eliminated the manual
update process entirely, which was probably eating 3-4 hours a week across the team.
More importantly, our partners are no longer working off stale information (they see
updates in near real time), which has cut down on a lot of back-and-forth clarification
emails.

I value Exalate for its ability to synchronize Jira issues with GitHub issues seamlessly, which is crucial in maintaining consistency between the private and public project views. This synchronization ensures that my team can focus their daily work within Jira while simultaneously providing visibility to our community and supported customers on GitHub, where they do not have direct access to Jira. Additionally, I admire the basic setup process, which is straightforward and allows for quick implementation, facilitating efficient initial deployment. Furthermore, after evaluating multiple vendors, I concluded that Exalate was the superior choice, confirming its effectiveness in fulfilling our specific needs.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

I find advanced scripting in Exalate challenging, especially when trying to implement more complex functionalities. Despite contacting support, I had issues syncing Jira fixversion with GitHub milestone, which required more than 50 lines of code and stopped working after a few months, leading to frustration and me eventually giving up on it. Additionally, I am not satisfied with the text rendering between Jira and GitHub, which I feel needs improvement.

We've been using Exalate to synchronize tickets between Zendesk and Jira, and the experience has been smooth and highly effective. for someone new to Exalate, the setup can be a little confusing at first. And sometimes, the error messages aren’t very clear, which makes troubleshooting harder than it should be.

Once you understand the outgoing/incoming sync set up for both programs, it is pretty straight forward in coding the changes.  I leverage ChatGPT, Exalate's AI and a third party partner to complete our integration.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

As I chose the 'code your own' option, the one thing that initially hit us was our nuanced set up of Azure DevOps.  Some custom fields weren't mapping so we ended up leveraging Bit2Bit to help us get across the finish line.  Experience is key.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had to copy/paste content out of Zendesk into our Azure Devops work items so leveraging Exalate allowed us to skip the ~5 minutes per issue creating a work item from Zendesk but also allowed us to close the loop on the Zendesk side once the ADO Work Item was completed.

What stands out most about exalate is the support and custom AI tool that helps you code ( if you choose for script syncing) and set-up syncs incredibly fast

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

We haven't had any issues yet with exalate itself if there would be one "dislike" that would be the need of a license on both the source and destination side however with a new Exalate networks this is off the table and no longer the case

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

It is very flexible. I could implement practically every scenario I wanted because I was not limited by the interface. It is script based but there are so many ready to use scripts in the documentation that it is not a problem if you do not know the groovy scripting language.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

If the sync gets stopped it is hard to identify the reason just by reading the error log. Maybe some kind of filtering would be helpful. Also, sometimes the sync stops without any reason and then you need resolve and retry a connection. However, notifications about it can be configured.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It connects two Jira instances so one of them can be put in front of a firewall and the other remains in a secured environment.
It can connect two teams in one Jira instance where outputs of one team can become an input for another team.

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

It really helps to cut down on repetitive work by automatically creating the Jira ticket from Zendesk.

We have Exalate in our Zendesk support ticketing and use it with Jira.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

Exalate tends to go down randomly pretty often. Never for very long, but just long enough to ask colleagues, "Anyone else having issues?" you get a few yesses and then it's working again.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It cuts down having to enter ticket information in multiple places by doing it for us.  It also allows the technicians to reply to Support via Jira, since they never access ZD (nor have any reason to).

When updating connections the order of connections in the list is changed and it's challenging to follow up on what connection you already updated and what is still left.

Error messages are console messages and users without experience can't easily understand what's the error about.

Our customer did need to copy tickets from JSM-project to "Development"-project(s) based on different criterias. With Exalate we can easily create separate configurations with simple UI.

It is  a good representation of our desired use case. I like the option of being able to configure the app via scripting.
I don't know any competitors so I can't do a comparison here :)

We often get unexplainable issues that can be resolved by clicking "Resolve and retry" once without any other action. I wished that if a sync fails Exalate automatically retries it once after some delay so there is no need that a JIRA admin clicks the button.

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

The support is great and if you are a talented Groovy coder you can for sure do cool things.
It is recommended to work with static typeing when writing sync scripts.
Please also note that the Connect option does not fire the sync scripts again - this is an important "need to know, else you may run into a trap".

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Copying this from ticket in helpdesk:

our use case is as follows:
We do have an external JIRA which acts as helpdesk for our clients.
We do have an internal JIRA which acts as issue tracker for our developers.

This setup has been chosen because we did not want to open our internal JIRA to the world since it can include confidential data.

If a client reports a bug we do not yet have in our issue tracker we use Exalate to clone the ticket into an internal issue that we then update with some additional information manually.
If now further clients also report the same issue we will connect their tickets to the existing internal issue.
These process is done because we have various automation to inform the clients in the ticket about the progress of their cases based on the status of the internal issue.
So the use case in a nutshell is to connect customer tickets to internal issues (retrospectively).

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

The visual interface, although new is a good way to go. Easy to configure. There are bugs that I reported but once that is fixed, the product will be complete.
It did take some time to polish all bugs, but after that was done, it didn't require us to monitor anymore. 
I strongly suggest you opt-in for professional services if you have time constraints. 
Sales and support are excellent.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

It takes some time to understand how the product operates. Definitely not a tool for quick fixes. 
It will become a great product once all interface issues are solved. Before that happens you need to get into groovy scripting.

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

If you have simple tasks that you need to do, then you might consider Exalate. Using it across platforms (Zendesk, JIRA DC, JIRA Cloud) as I do is painful and not reliable at all. Errors are popping like Xmass lights for all kinds of reasons. Even if you make it work and for hours there is no a single Sync error, two days later you come back, there are 60 errors in the bucket. So it needs to be constantly monitored. Which goes into the reliability section.
Features are different, depending on the platform. For instance, Visual editor which is simple to use and which I do like is available in Zendesk -> Jira Cloud migration, but when you try JIRA DC -> Jira Cloud migration, this option is not available. You need to go with the script. So if you didn't have any contact with Groovy, now you will have to excel it. So definitely you should check if using something to do API calls instead of Exalate is something that is easier to set up. 
Some of the bugs of the Zendesk component interface I've already reported so these need to be fixed. Limitations like the addition of the new fields you need to overcome. 
Here is the explanation. If you create a connection using Visual editor and after you are done you want to add one new field to be synced, this is not possible without writing a script. It doesn't o refresh. 
Also, system fields from Zendesk are not being synced so I cannot catch Zendesk Issue ID and place it on the JIRA ticket for reference. This is a problem when keeping track of issues you have in Sync!

I'm using Exalate to support migration from Zendesk to Jira Cloud and from Jira DC to Jira Cloud. 
Important to mention is that I'm not using it to migrate issues! I'm using it to keep them in sync (unidirectional) until the cutover date. Another tool is being used for the actual migration of issues.

Exalate is extremely powerful and configurable. Like many tools, this is both a strength and a weakness. Make sure you fully understand your business requirements before you start writing any mapping logic. Treat the configs as code and store them in git. Make sure to do PRs as part of your process to make changes. If you need help reach out to the Exalate team early. If you need help with anything, work with a local consulting firm / Exalate partner who is experienced in working with the tool.

Oddly enough, Jira to Jira integrations and Jira to Zendesk Integrations require several API configurations even though there are native add-ons. Exalate has made it great to easily connect Jira instances even using the standard licensing and configure what fields/workflow-related items go-between project tickets for any cases you integrate.

There isn't much to say; the support has been great to get a hold of for user issues. You will need to contact the team that develops Exalate, not jira.

We wanted reporting and analysis of developers working in Kanban/Azure Devops whilst also being able to assign them tickets from the main Jira workflow. Before, devs would have to swap back and forth between Jira and Kanban, and both of them had different information.
This way, the developers never have to leave the safety of Kanban, there's WAY less work being done to duplicate and assign tickets, and we were able to save some $$ on Jira licenses that we didn't need.

I have used Unito and Exalate and I am convinced Exalate is the winner. 

Unito has an "intuitive UI" that handles a lot of use cases, but it is also limited to what it's UI has implemented, on the other hand, Exalate relies on groovy scripting to control every detail of the Jira to Jira synchronization. There is no limit to what you can tweak and adjust to achieve perfect communication between different teams and workflows.

The status dashboard is easy to understand and helpful in troubleshooting issues and understanding the way scripting works.

The learning curve is steeper but the rewards are better.

And it is also cheaper than Unito.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

I would like to let other non administrator users manage their own connections.

I would like a better script editor with some form of autocomplete or hints for syntax and objects.

When working with an external organization, I would like to have access to manage their end of the connection without administrator access.

**Recommendations to others considering Exalate:**

You will need some scripting/coding knowledge to get the best out of Exalate. Prepare for a bit of a learning curve. Exalate is not as friendly as other products out there, but the rewards outweigh the cost of learning.

I needed to synchronize our internal Jira board with a customer's own board but we have different statuses and workflows. Exalate made it very simple to translate our workflows back and forth and gave us varied options to handle differences and discrepancies.

Scripting interface is best since we can control very well the sync rules behavior. Also once tuned the app is very stable. Syncing with Service Now and other apps is a plus, still we did not have a chance to use them so far.

The visual interface for connection definition that is perhaps new needs improvement. I had to uninstall all visual connections and replace them with scripted ones to overcome initial problems during trial period.

The support is great and setting it up was only complicated because of the strict security measures we have in place. But this was all set-up like a breeze. The system management part is great in tracking problems, recovering of synchronization problem. each synchronised defect is clearly labelled with its sync status. So it is really mature and easy to work with for user and system manager. (We use JIRA on both sides).

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

The one time setting up of the synchronization parameters is done with a script-like language. If you are comfortable with that it is powerful and easy. Might be a problem if you expect a graphical user interface.

We needed to synchronize defect description and statusses between companies, without it meaning to give full access to the company owned defect tracking system. Exalate is simple to configure, but if you really want to go all-in you can make some pretty powerful configurations with the groovy engine. There are little use cases unhandled, and if there are, the Exalate team is always prepared to offer help. We've used Exalate for Jira Data Center - Jira Server, Jira Cloud - Jira Data Center, Jira Server - SNOW, and the Jira Server - Zendesk setup.

Lots of possibilities, lots of power and an amazing team behind it!

**What do you like best about Exalate?**

Intuitive interface and excellent documentation.

**What do you dislike about Exalate?**

My attempts were unsuccessful using the suggest method of synchronizing the "Send Epics retaining relationship with its stories" because the Jira Cloud does not support providing the Groovy scripts for the incoming processing.

**What problems is Exalate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tremendous time savings (> 100 hours) migrating from Jira on-prem to Jira Cloud!  Also plan to use to integrate Zendesk support with Jira Cloud (for software developers).
