# How do enterprise teams use technology review platforms to research and compare software solutions before committing to a purchase decision?

I've been pulling together a piece on how enterprise procurement and IT teams actually use technology review platforms during software evaluation, and it looks pretty different from how individual users browse these sites. At the enterprise level, there's usually a buying committee, a shortlist process, and someone whose job is to pressure-test vendor claims before any demo gets scheduled.

In reviewing how these platforms get used in the technology review platforms category, the ones that come up most for structured enterprise evaluation workflows are G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius.

Here's what the data shows:

G2: Enterprise teams use G2's Grid reports and comparison tools to benchmark vendors across categories before engaging sales. The verified review system and segment-level filters let procurement teams pull reviews from other enterprise organizations, reducing some of the noise from SMB feedback that doesn't translate to complex deployment contexts.

Capterra: Reviewers in enterprise roles use it primarily for initial shortlisting: gathering features, pricing tiers, and user sentiment in one place before requesting demos. An enterprise reviewer noted that it helps cut through marketing copy by showing what real users experience day to day, saving time on early-stage calls. The sponsored listing placement is a recurring complaint, as it can reorder results away from the most relevant options.

TrustRadius: Known for long-form, in-depth reviews that go into implementation detail. Enterprise evaluators specifically cite it for understanding the post-sale experience, including migration complexity, onboarding, and the quality of ongoing support, which doesn't always show up in shorter review formats.

SourceForge: Used by IT and technical teams for its integration filtering, which lets users narrow by specific tech stack compatibility before reviewing. Reviewers from the IT and computer software sectors describe it as the platform most suited to finding software that will connect cleanly with existing systems.

PeerSpot: Focuses specifically on enterprise and technical buyers in IT, security, and infrastructure categories. Reviews tend to be longer and more technical than other platforms, making it useful for evaluations where peer practitioner experience in similar environments matters.

For enterprise teams that use multiple review platforms during a single evaluation, which one does the most work in terms of actually narrowing the shortlist, and which one tends to just validate a decision you'd already mostly made?

In practice, the platforms do the most work at discovery and early shortlisting, surfacing vendors that a team did not know to consider. The narrowing to a final two rarely comes from a rating; it comes from segment-filtered reviews and reference calls. Most often, the score confirms a direction the committee already leaned toward.
