When one of our consultants is new to a class or to the material, it is imperative they have as much information as possible to run a successful class. By adding notes and things for the instructor to say, they are more confident with their role. By doing so, you create more pages in the instructor guide than in the participants' guide. If you only use Word, then you have essentially to manuals that have to be kept in sync, when something changes. By using LearderGuide Pro Plus, you no longer have two manuals to worry about. Go with the subscription license. You'll be able to upgrade as soon as new versions and any patches are released, and each version adds so much new functionality that you really don't want to miss a single one. Great Circle Learning listens to its users and updates always include features or improvements that every-day users of the product suggested.

Take advantage of GCL's outstanding customer service and their offers for one-on-one conversation. They're not just there to help you when you get stuck - they offer advice, suggest the best way to tackle a project, and often give tips and tricks that save tons of time. Of course they know their own product, but they also know Microsoft products and can recommend best practices that will inform your work outside of LeaderGuide Pro. We have multiple audiences who take classes structured around the same content (we do application training). Examples, sequence, level of detail vary, but the core content is the same.

Before we had LeaderGuide Pro, we had created and were maintaining individual instructor and participant guides for each class; we had multiple people making the exact same change to multiple documents each time the content needed to be updated. We saw heavy cost in terms of time and quality, and a very obvious lack of consistency.

The biggest benefit we've seen has come from using LeaderGuide Pro's extraction functionality. We create a master document for major topics in our curriculum that contain all of the examples, details, notes, etc. for each audience in one place. We update this single source when the content requires changes. We archive these master documents and then build our classes from the parts, extracting only what's required for a single audience (and leaving the rest untouched in the master document). The instructor and participant guides are always up to date and in sync, and we've streamlined the materials maintenance to a bare minimum, which means our resources are freed up to do other work. We moved from PowerPoint slide notes, you know, two images per page, to a clean and well organized document with appropriate level of detail for the instructor, and similarly appropriate (a sub-set) detail for the student. It literally takes 3 minutes to extract the instructor guide and create a student guide. Our customers/students really like the new format, they can find information more quickly and believe the books will be more useful as a reference following the training. I spent a few months using Word templates and quick parts to create leader guides. I had a 100 page document that I needed to refer to on how to create a leader guide for the company that I was working for. I was working with a team of several instructional designers and we all interpreted the Word templates different. For me, LGP would have saved a TON of time. Not only could they have created a custom collection so there was never a concern about fonts, colors or logos but the block inserts replace the need to work in tables. If you have worked with tables you know they are a large pain. LGP uses tables but is so smartly programmed that it automatically splits your table whey you are the end of page. Be prepared to spend a reasonable amount of time setting up the templates as you require so any documentation fits with your company brand. Have one or a couple of people focused on templates and putting together the guides and performing the updates and content administration. I work as a Training Consultant and a customer had a requirement to generate trainer and participant guides for classroom based training. That would help to ensure the same content for a subject was being taught by all the trainers and provide professional training material. Majority of content was PPT based, so in order to not recreate the wheel some software was needed to import PPT (as created by SME's) to create professional trainer guides with additional exercises and guidance notes and from these generate training guides. We also needed to be able to update the PPT's and regenerate the guides efficiently. LGP is that software, it is relativity inexpensive, uses MS Word which most people are familiar with and allows you to house the entire content for one course in a document (or set of modules) from which sections can be extracted for other manuals as required in a matter of minutes.

Whilst I'm not currently using the software today, should I have a client with a similar requirement I would return to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
