What do you like best?

The ui is easy to use, it's feature set includes everything you need or want in a storage system. ZFS that it's based on is the absolute best file system for file storage.

Also the logging capability is excellent! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Without paying for their hardware you can't really get redundant controllers so there is no downtime when doing updates, however this is not unexpected and is easily manageable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It is the best solution you will find in the industry. Just be sure to set it up properly and understand ZFS before you put it in production. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Central redundant storage for virtualization and file shares. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

One word ZFS rocks ! Used FreeNAS for almost 5 years now on my homelab and my clients for being extremely reliable is an understatement describing this software software.

Its can rival its corporate counterparts from ease of use and reliability when it comes to business applications. Its open source, free, secure and have a very good support forum with its very helpful community. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

abolutely none this software is a godsent thanks to ixsystems! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

use recommended hardware particularly ECC RAM, and same hard drive models for best results Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

i have native sata and non ECC rams to begin with on some of my setups and it give me headache due to setting up non compatible hardware due to freebsd drivers lacking on those setups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

FreeNas help us to build solid storage node based on different equipment, with reasonable access speed and quite dissent compression abilities. Which helped us to save about 40% of disk space and decrease net traffic workload. Thank you for your work! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Could be a bit tricky if some extra functions required. not so simple approach in plugin installation comparing to other brands with preinstalled marketplaces, but manageable anyway Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used FreeNAS system to build onsite work server for small company of 25 users. It was cheap and reasonable choice, which had benefits everywhere, from wide ranges of equipment it could work with to tight amount of time required to launch it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like that was easier to deploy, the way to handle the permissions for the different OS, the easy way to administrate all the solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I think nothing at this time, the deployments I did were very smooth. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It's an excellent alternative if you are looking for a low-cost NAS for storage Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I think the best benefit I had with my clients is the cost-benefit of use this solution instead of expensive solutions, the problem I have solved is the investment that clients do buying a small server and deploy FreeNAS instead of buy an expensive NAS for the same purpose. It's rock-solid stability! Out of all of the other kit in the rack, FreeNAS just sat there and worked, reporting of any disk/other errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

What do you like best?

The web gui, the disk support, the full raid and zfs (snapshot ecc) support Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It’s not a freenas fault, but maybe mine: I feel uneasy handle the freebsd disk system. In disaster recovery it can be a problem. Actually I use linux mint as samba server, not using raid at all, I found a better disaster prevenction to have a secon backup disk handled by cron jobs that backups data asinchronusly(better than mirtoring). I don’t trust striping raid soluctions... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Optimum free opensource solution , simple and could be installed on cheap hardware. I’m not sure on manual recovering faulty systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Obtain a free nas on old hardware, with the possibility of encription. You can install the boot on usb and use an ssd in raid sustems for increase performance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Freenas is exactly what the name suggests... freeNAS appliance. The software is amazingly efficient. I get 800 Mb/Sec transfers on my regular SATA hard drives via Gigabit Ethernet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

This does not work well with RAID controllers. It works best when you use the proprietary ZFS file system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

FreeNAS allows us to share files over the network and use our Active Directory structure to control access. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
