Their responsiveness to districts' needs is amazing. We purchase their IEP, 504, MTSS, and Medicaid programs. Each program is simple to use, is supported equally by its customer support and integrates seamlessly with other educational software. **What do you dislike about Embrace?** I can honestly say, the only thing I dislike about embrace is that it is not supported financially by our state board of education. ISBE gave millions of dollars to private contractors to develop an IEP system that no one in the state uses. I am not sure why ISBE and Embrace were unable to work toward a common solution. I can't say this is the fault of embrace, but they have not come forward and discussed why ISBE would not contract with them. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** Embrace continues not just to stay abreast of changes in Medicaid, but some of their employees have assisted Illinois with expanding Medicaid reimbursement. This forward-thinking has allowed them to begin modifying their programs to implement those changes the day they are signed into Law in Illinois. ### 2. I like how PowerIEP shows clearly when the student's next 3-year evaluation is due. On Easy IEP, it did not show this. I also like how it is easy to add and take away forms when writing the IEP. I also like the drop-down options for the educational placement section. On the minute's page, it is extraordinary how the special education minutes are automatically totaled for us. **What do you dislike about Embrace?** I don't particularly appreciate how more than one person can't be on the same page simultaneously. We often work on the IEP together, and one of us can't get into the page. We are an educational team and usually collaborate on all of our students, which hinders our collaboration. If the program doesn't let us be on the same page simultaneously, I wish there was an option to approve another teacher to join the page with you. Then at the IEP meetings, everyone on the education team can have access to the same information. **Recommendations to others considering Embrace:** I think that Embrace is very user-friendly, and with the proper training, anyone can use it. In the long run, you will be happy you switched to this program. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is beneficial to have Embrace IEP because I can easily access a student's education plan to ensure they get the accommodations and support they need. ### 3. It's easy to click and scroll between sections in the same document. Word, name and phase prediction based on previous use is very helpful when accurate. As a school psychologist who writes 10-20 page reports, the evaluation report format prompting input in very short sections, or evaluation components, makes writing the report less daunting, and suggests logical starting/stopping points as you are working through a report (great for those of us prone to hyperfocus or have a hard time stopping 'in the middle' of something). **What do you dislike about Embrace?** Where do I start? Full disclosure: I am here reviewing Embrace fresh from an 'incident' that is going to cost me a good hour of my life. I was finalizing the longest section of a report, which described and analyzed a particular student's performance in a subject area. Somehow, I accidentally deleted the ENTIRE SECTION. I have no idea which unfortunate sequence of keys I inadvertently struck to cause such an unwelcome event, but do you think Embrace could have asked: 'Are you sure you want to delete this section?', considering the fact that there is NO UNDO button. You read that correctly. In Embrace, you are expected to be perfect. You may not make mistakes, big, little or otherwise, or you will pay. With your time, with your energy, with your heart; with your tears. You may not click UNDO. There is no UNDO in Embrace. This is not by any stretch the only issue with Embrace, not by a long shot- but it's all I have in me after what I have just been through. My intent is that you directors of special education, of technology, or whomever else might be considering purchasing Embrace right now, might give pause. Perhaps you could dangle your not-yet-signed contract to the Embrace powers that be, demanding that the above described and other Embrace idiocies might be fixed before you strike your deal. Your district psychologists, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and IEP writers will thank you, from the bottoms of their collective hearts. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** When everything goes smoothly, and you are able to put aside the many problems with the wording and format of the require forms, the long reports that I write as a major component of my position can be more efficiently completed and less daunting to start. **Official Response from Joe Koenig:** > Thank you for your feedback. We value all input and appreciate the time you have taken to put these frustrations into writing. We are truly sorry to hear about your experience, as we understand how time consuming it is for a school psychologist to write evaluation reports and how busy all school psychologists are these days. While there is not an undo button in Embrace®, there is autosave, which happens roughly every two minutes, and we do keep logs of actions, as well as a document history, which contains each autosave. Our customer service agents are able to access this information, and can typically restore the information within a few minutes, if a situation like this occurs. Customer service agents are available from 7:30am - 6:30pm CST and typically answer the phone on the first or second ring, respond to chats within one minute, and respond to e-mails within twenty minutes. The green check marks, highlighted areas, etc. make it much better. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's made it so much better when writing IEPs. It specifically highlights things you need to complete before each meeting, and is organized really well. I like that it checkmarks a section once you have all necessary fields completed. I have probably saved on average 1 hour when writing IEPs in comparison to eSped ### 7. I work for a private schools but we serve the public schools. Therefore, it is critical that we maintain good communication on their student's goal progress. This makes the process much easier that tracking goal on our our forms, printing them, and then mailing them out,as the districts have access on embrace. **What do you dislike about Embrace?** You used (when it was PowerIEP)to be able to upload additional data related to a students present level of preformance right on the present level page. This made for a good presentation on the printed IEP. Now you have to upload it under additional documents and it prints out at the bottom. **Recommendations to others considering Embrace:** I would recommend over many others like easyiep. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** Being on the same page with the 23 districts that my school serves and making sure all students are receiving the accommodations that they require to be successful ### 9. It benefits us by keeping these important documents organized and secure. ### 12. The forms are easy to find and organized in a way that makes sense. I also like that I have the option to print a "DRAFT" of everything prior to an IEP meeting. Having the ability to rearrange the order of the goals has been helpful as well. Lastly, I like that I can upload specific assessments/documents and attach them to specific meetings or the student in general. **What do you dislike about Embrace?** I dislike that I am unable to enter the IEP if another staff member is working in it; I'm "locked out". I also HATE that information doesn't automatically update when I enter it into the "Student Information Page". **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** I don't deal with the business aspect of PowerIEP so I cannot speak to this. ### 13. powerIEP review **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2018 **What do you like best about Embrace?** I like the streamlined interface and the checks and balances (highlighted areas for necessary sections) **What do you dislike about Embrace?** ***Having to "leave page" formally in order for another person to be able to access the page. At minimum, an "override" function by an administrator/LEA/case manager would be helpful. If someone were to be logged onto the page on their home computer this could be a problem. It is also inconvenient that only one person can work on a page at a time (doc of evaluation results). Section with goal implementers: there is no way to designated primary implementer. When multiple implementers are checked, they all appear to be clicked with no regard to the order. I get around this by using the "other" checkbox and listing in the order desired. In "scheduling for determining progress" there is no option for "monthly" which is what many in my district use. In the related services area, there is no "trimester" option for frequency. This would be helpful since my district is on a trimester vs. quarterly schedule. When printing a goal, there does not appear to be an option to print it without "goal updates" included. For parent contact documentation form, there is not an option to select which contacts to print (such as if I wanted to only pick my contacts for my records). **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** Can't think of any at this time. ### 14. I don't like that you can't use the back button becasue sometimes I accidentally do that and it takes me back to a page I didn't want. **Recommendations to others considering Embrace:** It is pretty easy to learn. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** I like how you can see all the goals and can navigate easily through all of the evaluations. I also like that I can name my goals so they are easier to reference later. Another feature I like is the ability to quickly check portions that typically have responses to improve efficiency when working. **What do you dislike about Embrace?** I dislike that multiple users cannot be on at once. I also disliked that the company takes a long time to input existing information from other software. Schools need to meet specific deadlines and therefore teachers had to do the extra work. **Recommendations to others considering Embrace:** Definitely worth is once you get used to it. If you are switching make sure you save electronic copies of everything on your old software. This will make inputting information much easier. **What problems is Embrace solving and how is that benefiting you?** I an easily able to write and navigate IEPs. I find that it makes my meetings run smoothly. I like that I can EASILY print the sections I need to be prepared for my meetings as opposes having to scroll through an entire pdf to print the needed pages. ### 16. I like that multiple users can get into different pages and put their input in at the same time. I also like that the system is web-based so I can access it from anywhere. I have never had it lose data that I have put into an IEP, which is something I cannot say about other software. **What do you dislike about Embrace?** I don't love the medicaid billing system attached to it. I used to be able to bill super easily, but now I have to go into each month seperately.
