It’s more that I need additional training and experience with Blocksi to use it effectively. A representative told us he could provide a Zoom training for our school, and we still need to get that scheduled. Right now, I haven’t been able to successfully restrict all branches of a specific site. For example, when I ask students to only be on IXL, it keeps them on the main login page, but as soon as they try to work on a skill, that page gets blocked because it uses a different web address. I also need some additional training for monitoring past student activity (once the class period has ended). **What problems is Blocksi solving and how is that benefiting you?** Blocksi helps show my students that they are accountable for their online activity during class. In many ways, they monitor each other almost better than I do, and they help keep one another on task and accountable. Because of that, I feel more at ease working with small groups (especially during the math block) while other students are working independently at their computers. ### 2. The near instantaneous allow/blocking with the Exception List has been amazing to use. ### 3. I also like their Policies feature where you can have categories of websites allowed or not allowed. Then, you don't have to know specific URLs in that case. I also like how easy it is to share websites with students so they don't have to type in a long URL. You can push it to them in that moment, rather than having to plan ahead to have on your Canvas page, for example. **What do you dislike about Blocksi?** Unfortunately, Blocksi has not been reliable. We've had a lot of issues this past school year and the year before with Blocksi not working the way it's supposed to. It will not consistently load all of the students. One reason for this is because students have figured out a way to make Blocksi crash. For a while, Blocksi didn't believe us that it was because of the kids, and they thought it was other issues. They've been troubleshooting literally the whole school year, and it's been kind of a nightmare. A lot of teachers have been super frustrated and haven't been using it this year. Also, although I found the setup easy, some teachers didn't find it as easy. There's a little learning curve, and the setup of schedules could definitely be easier. **What problems is Blocksi solving and how is that benefiting you?** Blocksi lets teachers see and block websites, send URLs to students easily, and use assessment mode to keep students focused by locking Chromebooks to specific sites. ### 5. They helped set up the site and answer any ongoing questions. Blocksi solves this by blocking theses sites. At one point a student looked up information about suicide. Blocksi caught this and informed Administration. Here's what we like, based on our experiences of the past 3 months. 1) Blocksi updates fast. Once you get the Blocksi Chromebooks extensions rolled out, you can make a change in a filtering profile, and students see the effect within a few seconds. 2) The Blocksi dashboard is very informative, showing blocked versus filtering sites, most blocked students, videos, etc. 3) Blocksi's student safety feature is nice. It in the few months we have had it, it has alerted us to several situations where students were feeling depressed and possibly considering self-hard. 4) Blocksi for Teachers has some great features that may lead us to replace our current student monitoring system for teachers. 5) Company has been very proactive in reaching out to us. **What do you dislike about Blocksi?** 1) Blocksi for Teacher appears to have some bugs related to screen sharing and importing lists of blocked or allowed URLs. 2) Individual student reporting could use more detail, such as a list of visited URLS by date and time. 3) Policies applied to a parent OU in Google are not automatically inherited by child OUs. You can set them to inherit, but we had to do this individually by child OU. I'm not certain if there is a setting somewhere that would make policies inherit by default. **What problems is Blocksi solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a public school division, we are required to provided filtered Internet access for our students. Blocksi solves that problem. It also provides us with a way to give individual teachers more granular control over how their students are using their devices during class, including limited students to particular websites, or blocking all access when the teachers needs to get the students' attention. ### 14. We were given the teacher dashboard and admin dashboard. I could set up global things for everyone and do general blocking and help for the teachers. Apparently we were not paying for the admin dashboard even though we got it for the 1st two years of our 3 year contract. At the start of the 3rd year they killed the admin dashboard and told us that we would have to pay $9200 to have it back. Needless to say we will not be gong back after our contract is up. **What do you dislike about Blocksi?** If students create a link to the teacher chat they can open that window which will send an alert when a teaccher starts to view their screen. Students can then close their browser and the teacher is unable to see what they are really doing. Really turns in to a classroom management thing but frustrating none the less. **What problems is Blocksi solving and how is that benefiting you?** Allows teachers to lock students into specific sites and "helps" keep students on track. ### 16. Slows the entire computer to a crawl. It also gives us greater clarity on what sites the students visit and allows teachers to view student screens and make in-class filtering decisions. **What do you dislike about Blocksi?** One of the primary bugs I have seen is that sometimes when syncing with our Google Admin Console, the program will not automatically assign licenses to new members of an organizational unit (even though there are enough licenses to assign new ones enrollees). **What problems is Blocksi solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before Blocksi, we did not have an effective way of filtering our 1:1 Chromebooks that students take home. We also had issues with students getting off task in the middle of class. Blocksi has allowed our teachers to have visibility of what websites their students are going to during class, and allows for content filtering outside of the school. There are constantly new features being added and our teachers love classroom management module. The student safety system is amazing! **What do you dislike about Blocksi?** There are some quirky things about rules with block/deny/exceptions. For example, *.domain.com will unblock or block all subdomains, but sometimes the main domain is unaffected. A second rule will need to be added for only "domain.com". There is also some things that could be streamlined.
