"Seamless AWS Integration and Robust Security Make S3 a Standout Choice"
What do you like best about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

S3 integrates well with the broader AWS ecosystem, making it easy to connect storage with compute, analytics, and backup workflows. Features such as versioning, lifecycle policies, and storage classes help us manage data efficiently, control costs, and enforce retention requirements. Access control through IAM policies and bucket-level permissions allows us to apply the principle of least privilege across teams and applications.

Security is another major strength from an admin perspective. S3 supports encryption at rest and in transit, detailed access logging, and integration with monitoring and auditing tools. These capabilities help meet institutional security and compliance requirements while maintaining operational flexibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

There are some challenges when using S3 at scale. Cost management requires careful monitoring, especially with data egress, request rates, and long-term storage. From an administrative standpoint, misconfigured permissions or overly permissive policies can pose risks if not governed properly, which makes strong internal controls and regular reviews essential. "Solid storage but a bit of a maze to set up"
What do you like best about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

The best part is definitely the reliability. I use it for storing all my team's project files and honestly, it never goes down. Once it's running, you just forget about it and it works. Also, the speed for uploading and downloading big files is much better than other stuff we tried before. It's great that it scales automatically so I don't have to worry about running out of space. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

The interface is just... too much. If you're not a pro, finding specific settings in the console feels like a puzzle. Also the pricing is super confusing. It's hard to predict how much we're gonna pay at the end of the month because of all those extra fees for data transfer and requests. I wish it was more straightforward for a regular user who just wants to store stuff. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable, scalable, and highly integrated cloud storage"
What do you like best about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

Amazon S3 offers reliable, scalable, and highly durable object storage, with smooth integration across the AWS ecosystem. I find it easy to use, and the setup is straightforward for storing, retrieving, and managing large volumes of data. Its flexibility, the range of storage classes, and strong security controls make it well suited for both frequent access and archival needs. Integration with services such as Lambda, CloudWatch, and EC2 also supports automated workflows and more efficient data management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

While S3 is extremely reliable, managing complex permissions and policies can be challenging, especially for beginners. Costs can also add up quickly if you rely heavily on versioning or perform frequent data transfers. In addition, working with very large buckets containing millions of objects can feel cumbersome without solid organization and well-defined lifecycle policies. "Reliable and scalable cloud storage solution for all use cases"
What do you like best about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

Amazon S3 provides incredibly reliable and highly scalable object storage, making it perfect for everything from backup storage to hosting static websites and data lakes. The integration with other AWS services is seamless, and the pay-as-you-go pricing model makes it very cost-effective for both small and enterprise use cases. The security features, including bucket policies, IAM, and encryption, are also top-notch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

The pricing model, while flexible, can be confusing—especially when dealing with multiple storage classes, data retrieval fees, and transfer costs. Also, managing permissions with bucket policies and IAM roles can get complex and error-prone without clear documentation or experience. A better built-in UI for file management in the AWS Console would also improve user experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Scalable and Reliable Solution for Data Storage"
What do you like best about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

What I like most about Amazon S3 is the ease of storing and accessing large volumes of data in a secure and scalable way. The integration with other AWS services is extremely smooth, and the ability to configure different storage classes (such as Standard, Glacier, and Intelligent-Tiering) allows for cost optimization as needed. The high availability and durability of the data are also strong points that provide a lot of confidence in using the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

What I like least about Amazon S3 is the pricing structure, which can become complex, especially for those working with large volumes of data and multiple requests. It would also be interesting to have more detailed usage monitoring dashboards natively, without relying on integrations with other tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable, Scalable Object Storage for all workloads"
What do you like best about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

Amazon S3 delivers a robust object storage platform designed for virtually unlimited scalability and high durability.

The architecture is built around the concept of buckets and objects: buckets act as logical containers, while objects can be any type of file up to 5TB in size, each uniquely identified by a key. S3’s elastic scalability means there’s no need to provision storage in advance; capacity grows or shrinks automatically based on usage.

The durability and availability metrics are industry-leading. S3 is engineered for 99.999999999% (11 nines ) durability and 99.99% availability, with data automatically replicated across multiple geographically separated availability zones within a region. This level of redundancy ensures data integrity and resilience against localized failures.

Security features are comprehensive. S3 supports server-side encryption (SSE-S3, SSE-C, SSE-KMS), bucket and object-level access controls, and integrates with AWS’s broader security suite, including CloudTrail for audit logging and IAM for fine-grained permissions. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit by default.

The API-first design is a major strength. S3 provides REST and SOAP interfaces, making it easy to integrate with custom applications, third-party tools, and other AWS services. Features like versioning, lifecycle management, and event notifications enable sophisticated data governance and automation scenarios.

Storage classes offer cost and performance optimization for diverse workloads. S3 Standard is ideal for frequently accessed data, while Standard-IA, One Zone-IA, Intelligent-Tiering, Glacier, and Glacier Deep Archive address infrequent access, archival, and compliance needs with different pricing and retrieval characteristics. Lifecycle policies can automate transitions between these classes based on rules or object age.

Integration with the AWS ecosystem is seamless. S3 works natively with services like Lambda (for event-driven compute), Athena (for serverless querying), and Redshift Spectrum (for analytics), enabling a unified data lake architecture.

The global infrastructure is extensive, with S3 available in 24 AWS regions, allowing data residency and latency optimization for users worldwide. S3 Outposts extends these capabilities to on-premises environments for hybrid scenarios. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)?

The pricing model can become complex, especially for organizations with unpredictable access patterns or high data egress. While storage costs are competitive, additional charges for data retrieval, API requests, and cross-region replication can add up quickly if not closely monitored or optimized. Intelligent-Tiering helps automate cost savings, but understanding the nuances of each class is essential to avoid unnecessary expenses.

The user interface in the AWS Management Console, while functional, can feel overwhelming for newcomers due to the breadth of configuration options and nested settings. Navigating permissions, bucket policies, and lifecycle rules requires a solid understanding of AWS’s security model.

For workloads requiring traditional file system semantics (like POSIX compliance or low-latency random access), S3’s object storage paradigm may introduce challenges.

Tools like Amazon Mountpoint bridge this gap, but performance and cost trade-offs must be considered, as S3 operates on whole objects rather than file blocks.

Some advanced features, like cross-region replication or event-driven automation, require additional setup and integration with other AWS services, which can increase operational complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
