# Is a paid image optimization platform worth it for a small ecommerce store?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Short version, a paid image optimizer is only worth it for a small store once you're past what the free tiers comfortably handle, and a lot of small stores aren't there yet. How I'd think about it:</p><ul>
<li>Free is often enough at first. <a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/tinypng/reviews"><strong>TinyPNG</strong></a> is free for light, occasional use with no signup, and several plugins have free tiers that cover a modest catalog.</li>
<li>Paid earns its keep once optimizing is constant. <a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/imagify/reviews"><strong>Imagify</strong></a> is priced low enough that reviewers still rate it worth it for a small site, though one flagged a painful cancellation flow, so keep that in mind.</li>
<li>Watch the metered options. <a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/optimole/reviews"><strong>Optimole</strong></a> is capable, but reviewers note its free plan is very limited and the bandwidth-metered model can be poor value on cheap hosting.</li>
</ul><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">So I'd start free and only pay once manual optimizing becomes a chore or the catalog outgrows the limits. Start free is the right instinct, and the actual trigger for paying is the day you catch yourself resizing images by hand before upload. That habit costs more than any subscription. From small-store owners I&#39;ve heard from, going paid moved the bill more than the speed, unless the theme was shipping huge unoptimized hero images, in which case the fix was the theme, not the optimizer.
