  ### 4. AR is a Game Changer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shonda H. | Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2023

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Acellerated Reader is the most successful reading program I have ever seen. I have been in education since 2003. There is not a better program out there. AR offers practice in all areas of reading.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

The only complaint I would have is that it is student driven. In most cases, this is awesome and students love to choose their own reading. Avoidant readers don't love AR though. I do use this time to try and invoke interest and sometimes it works.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This helps so much! I love that it records and saves all data and even communicates the data with the family of the students. I love that they choose their books and always have more interest.

Renaissance Accelerated Reader allows me to tailor lessons in reading to fit the needs of each of my students needs while incorporating their strengths, interests, and character.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

One thing I dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader is that sometimes the students are not able to check if the book has an AR test before they read it. Then I will read the book and create a test for them.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Renaissance Accelerated Reader helps me to incorporate differentiated reading instruction in the classroom among differing subject-level criteria and information.

  ### 6. Worth It!

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I like the way Accelerated Reader motivates students to read.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

It can be misused if not monitored. It is not meant to teach reading. It is a tool to increase student reading.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students are more motivated to read. They start by wanting to get the points, which continues to be important. I have observed student develop a love for reading also.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shelley D. | Librarian/ Paraprofessional, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I love the easiness of it. It gives clear instructions on how to use it. The new updates that were done last year are great. I like the new goal classification system. This year they have replaced the ATOS reading level with the Reading Range and I love it.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

There is not much about Renaissance Accelerated Reader that I dislike. The Accelerated Book Finder is a great tool as well. I don't see anywhere that there is needed improvement.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Last week the accelerated reader book finder was down. I sent in a help request. They fixed the problem over the weekend and let me know quickly. I use that site nearly all day long, especially when I am inputting new books into my library system. If I do have a question, they are quick to respond when I use the chat box. They are extremely helpful.

  ### 8. 2nd grade Veteran Teacher’s Takeaway on AR

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alicia W. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Renaissance is a helpful already made program that holds students accountable for the book(s) they are independently reading. Students being able to take a quick checkpoint of 5 -10 questions, followed by earning badges and treats at our school. Kids get excited about reading .

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

The least favorite thing about AR is the taking the time to look up book titles otherwise it is hard for them to take a test. Students in K-12 struggle typing in title vs ar quiz #

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Renaissance is solving the time encouraged to read independently daily. Plus great to check their comprehension and application of applying what the student retained

  ### 9. More Than Accountability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stacia G. | High School English Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Renaissance Accelerated Reader offers so much more than accountability. If used properly, Accelerated Reader provides statistics and data teachers can use to align lessons and group students. The program offers visual reports and goal setting as well as rewards. As a teacher using the program, I have experienced great growth and excitement in my students.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Many teachers feel that AR is just a test. I dislike that we don't always promote all of the other features of the program. It is a very helpful tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the problem of student reading in our school. I have realized that with accountability and intervention, students can find a love for reading.

  ### 10. Accelerated Reader Improves Student Engagement and Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer T. | Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Students are intrinsically motivated to read through the process of earning badges or points. They are also held accountable through testing and therefore take their time to read books more thoroughly. Also, the AR book leveling system is straightforward, though you can use any leveling system. With AR, students are selecting books that are within their ZPD and having successful interactions with texts at an appropriate level. Reports and student progress are easy to see and commincate to parents.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I have found little I dislike, the most probably being that the points system is complicated for younger children to understand. However, this year, AR updated with a different option for younger students that used badges instead of points, and the students were able to understand and be more successful with that format.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

AR is a very inclusive program and meets multiple needs in the classroom. This program fees up a lot of my time so I can focus on instruction, and not supervising and assessing independent reading in the classroom. Probably the most valuable program I use in my classroom.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AR is helping me to encourage students to read independently while also holding them accountable for their reading. I don't have time for all students to read 1-on-1 with me, so AR fills that need. I can see what books they choose, what difficulty level the books are, and if they understand what they are reading through short quizzing. I have seen benefits such as increased independent reading levels, increased intrinsic motivation to read, and an excitement to take tests to both celebrate successfully reading a book and also to earn class and individual rewards through their reading journey.

  ### 11. Great tool for growing readers!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa T. | Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Renaissance Accelerated Reader helps me by providing a way to assess comprehension and encourage independent reading among my students. There are so many titles included that virtually every book a child might have at home is included in the database!

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Some parents think that Renaissance Accelerated Reader limits what their children can read. While I do expect my students to stay within their suggested ZPD reading ranges, I do allow students to read above their ranges when they demonstrate an 85% or higher comprehension on tests or when their parents are reading along with them.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

Accelerated Reader is well worth the price paid for the program!

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem I can solve by using Renaissance Accelerated Reader is that I can check a child's understanding on material they choose to read without having to read the material myself (which can be very time-consuming in a large classroom of students). The benefit is that they are able to choose material they enjoy rather than an assigned book. This truly helps struggling readers that do not enjoy reading get a feel for it and develop a love of reading.

  ### 12. Renaissance Accelerated Reader

AR is helping our students develop more proficient comprehension skills while still providing book choices in their optimal range of reading.

  ### 13. Accelerated Reader & Mini Lesson Format

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jody S. | Elementary Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

AR is the perfect program for student accountability with the mini lesson teaching format and the read-to-self rotation.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I like all aspects of AR. I have not found anything I don’t like about AR. It allows for student accountability and independence.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

Just start. Your students will catch on to the login process and the AR protocols. Start with baby steps at first. Crawl, walk, run.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Students need copious amounts of time to practice their reading. AR is the accountability tool so I know that the kids are engaged, learning, on-task, and growing academically.

  ### 14. The Power of Renaissance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Renaissance is a multi-faceted, engaging, and holistic program that supports literacy and student achievement. Accelerated Reader provides a platform where my first graders can find repeated success.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I've used Accelerated Reader for over a decade. I have yet to find an issue with the program.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All of my students fall within the ELL learning framework so, reading is always a challenge. Accelerated Reader, however, provides a platform where my students can find repeated success. The students may choose from a wide range of literature ( across various genres) and read. They may read in multiple ways: with peers, independently, or proctored by their teacher. We can focus on comprehension, vocabulary, and reading fluency skills while simultaneously creating a love for reading. My students are growing into capable and confident readers.

  ### 15. Renaissance Accelerated Reader is a Must!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** KATHRYN P. | Classroom Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

The thing I like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader is that my students can take a beginning of the year test to get their reading level, and then they can choose books that interest them on their level. They can then test on these books and earn rewards from me!

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

There is nothing I dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader. We have been using it at my school for years, and the students get excited to compete against their classmates and get the most points.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem I am solving with Renaissance Accelerated Reader is better reading comprehension in the classroom. Reading comprehension is necessary for every school subject, so Renaissance Accelerated Reader is helping tremendously.

  ### 16. Read with Renaissance Accelerated Reader!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephania S. | Academic Director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Students love to read and share what they know about the book. AR is a great platform to provide students the opportunity to show what they know about a book and hold students accountable to reaching goals!

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I love the new platform for our younger students with character and images students love. I wish middle schools was a little more trendy.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Student goal setting and empowering students to reach their goals!

  ### 17. AR is Great

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Students can be motivated to read more! I was librarian before we started AR and it has made a BIG difference in reading!

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I dislike monitoring cheating, but this is not a problem Renaissance Learning can fix.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

The program increases reading by motivating students.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes it rewarding, because students will see me outside of the library and tell me their average, say they've met their goal, tell how many words they have, etc! They are excited about reading.

  ### 18. 4th Grade loves AR.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda A. | Academy Teacher- 4th Grade

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I like that I can do the STAR assessment to see what level students are at and their reading range. I like the AR testing to help students test their comprehension and reach their 40 book club challenge goal.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I am not a huge fan of the pricing for the program.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am supporting students reading comprehension with books they are choosing. They are able to choose a book, then test on AR to see if they are improving with their comprehension. The STAR Assessment also allows students to see their reading growth throughout the year.

  ### 19. Great Motivator

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

Having offline access to quizzes would be nice.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a great motivator for getting students to read.

  ### 20. I enjoy AR because paired with Star you can make sure that students are reading within their ZPD.

Helpful - AR Reports and the ZPD levels.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

The dislikes - I don't have any dislikes.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

Make sure that you join Renaissance Royals because they have a ton of tips from other educators.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't have any problems with AR. The benefits are that students can see and monitor their progress.

  ### 21. Great Program for Reading Growth Monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I love that you can set goals for each student and that you can monitor the progress easily.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I think the reports need to be modified so that you can send them electronically without downloading the PDF file.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am helping my readers develop their reading habits and passion.

  ### 22. Accelerated Reader

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amber A. | Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

A fully comprehensive program that encourages students to read.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I wish it had more choices for ebooks for students.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AR is a great program to motivate students to read books that they are interested in that are on their level. Students are seeing growth, not just in reading, but all subjects as well.

  ### 23. AR review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lea W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

What is most helpful is the teacher access.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

What I dislike most is that students can guess answers. This is not unique to AR but to any technology program. I would love to see incentives that encourage students to do their best.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Renaissance offers so many books for children to quiz themselves on. The variety helps students read on their level and in their interests.

  ### 24. Love for Accelerated Reader

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelsie H. | Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I like best that this is a quick and easy way for me to test that students are actually reading the books they are reading and when I read a book aloud to know that they were actually listening.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I do wish that tests for newer books would be available sooner. You have the ability to make a test but I buy so many new books that it is nearly impossible for me to read them for myself and then to sit down and make a test for all of them.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

Join the Renaissance Royals program for teachers and administrators. They put out webinars and useful tips very often. Also, reaching out via chat gets things done and most issues you may have handled quickly, sometime more quickly than a phone call.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been able to very clearly see when my students are reading books and if they are comprehending what is going on being able to recall details from each story.

  ### 25. AR is the best, most widely known reading accountability program available.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ann S. | Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I love how AR helps students and teachers keep track of reading. It really motivated the children to challenge themselves and improve their reading scores. The reports help teachers pinpoint where individual students are struggling in their independent reading in order to provide intervention in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I don't know how it would work, but I wish there was an easier way to get the quiz numbers. Young children often don't type in the book title correctly, and there are many books with the same title leading to confusion. Kids are much better at correctly typing the quiz numbers.

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

It is essential to have this product in elementary schools.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reading logs are widely used, but they are way too easy to falsify and don't give a good picture of how much the child understands. AR provides very clear parameters for the students and clear view of reading comprehension for teachers.

  ### 26. Great Product If Used As Directed

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason E. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Accelerated Reader really works. There is a lot of data and push stating that the product causes a hatred of reading. But if the product is used as directed and recommended, it helps students BUILD a love of reading and gain knowledge as they continue to grow their reading comprehension skills.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

The cost of the product is my main dislike. I feel it is expensive for schools to implement on a yearly basis. As a librarian, I would gladly take this cost to buy books and supplies over Accelerated Reader, but I understand the reasoning for a district to purchase it. My other dislike is the sheer number of educators that do not use this product as instructed to use. This is not the fault of Accelerated Reader, but the schools using it for just "points" and reaching goals.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our students are reading more than ever and reading a variety of texts. Some students feel like they are forced to read but most of our students are reading for pleasure and using Accelerated Reader to meet the demands of our teachers (that do not use the product correctly).
Accelerated Reader has the potential to help students grow and develop a love of reading.

  ### 27. Accelerated Reader

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I love that the student can take a comprehension or vocabulary test after they read a book. It is a great quick assessment that shows comprehension of the story and vocabulary within in the story. I also like that goals can be set on the amount of minutes read each day along with the number of points earned. At my school we then have point clubs that have prizes for the students when they reach different levels of points. That is a great motivator for the students to keep reading.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I can not think of anything that I dislike about Accelerated Reader.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am getting my students more excited about Reading and motivating them to continue reading. They really love to set their own goals for each quarter and then seeing if they can reach their goals at the end of each quarter.

  ### 28. Why Renaissance AR Works for Students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carly S. | 3rd Grade Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I like that AR has a wide range of books that are leveled according to a reader's ability to read independently. Renaissance even allows books to be added to their already extensive list. Or points can be awarded to students who read text not on the list based on their teacher's discretion.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Accountability is a positive but some young students do not have the maturity to understand why they should not test until ready. Teaching the "why" of reading books more than once can be a bit of a battle. I don't like that books failed in a previous grade level can't be retested in the next grade. I don't like that I can't remove a bad test score. I want to teach my students to develop better skills. I do not want a system that discourages them.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving reading problems by meeting with my students about what they are reading. We set goals together. Students are quizzing each other, which develops self-questioning skills they need when reading their own books. I am seeing high growth scores that translate into academic success.

  ### 29. Achieving Reading Goals with Accelerated Reader

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda E. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I love that Accelerated Reader is flexible and easy for teachers to use.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

The downside of Accelerated Reader is that the reading quiz has to be in the system to take the test. However, they have a very large collection.

**What problems is Renaissance Accelerated Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Renaissance Accelerated Reader, I am able to encourage and motivate students to read daily. I am also able to monitor their reading/AR quizzes quickly and easily.

There really aren't any downsides that I have found.

**What do you like best about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

Accelerated reader or AR is an awesome reading incentive program. I love all aspects of the program. I love that it increases fluency. Comprehension. I love that there are quizzes for all levels. All genres. Both fiction and non fiction.

**What do you dislike about Renaissance Accelerated Reader?**

I dislike that my current school system will not purchase it for my young students. I currently teach at a PreK and kindergarten school. I believe it’s the perfect time to introduce the program. The district evidently disagrees

**Recommendations to others considering Renaissance Accelerated Reader:**

Utilize this as an enrichment, remediation or early finishers activity. I personally don’t recommend using it as a grade. My personal experience was it worked better as an incentive program. Not required

Children are motivated to read. The program increases fluency and comprehension. For my child and my niece, the program kept them out of trouble. I believe it reduces discipline problems by keeping the students actively engaged
