# Which service desk software offers the best ticket management features?

<p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">Hey folks, we're in the middle of evaluating <a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/categories/service-desk">service desk platforms </a>and one thing that really matters to us is <strong>ticket management</strong>. We need something that can handle routing, prioritization, notifications, and ideally integrate well with a knowledge base so users can self-serve when possible.</p><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">From the G2 data, here are the ones I’m looking at:</p><ul>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/servicenow-it-service-management/reviews"><strong>ServiceNow IT Service Management:</strong></a> Strong across the board with automation, prioritization, notifications, and knowledge base integration. Feels like the enterprise gold standard, but probably heavy for smaller teams.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/autotask/reviews"><strong>Autotask</strong></a><strong>:</strong> Solid on routing and prioritization, but knowledge base features look a bit lighter.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/jira-service-management/reviews"><strong>Jira Service Management:</strong></a> Good balance of automation, notifications, and knowledge base integration — especially if you’re already in Atlassian.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/freshservice/reviews"><strong>Freshservice:</strong></a> High marks for routing, prioritization, and KB integration, with an easier cloud-based setup than some enterprise platforms.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/atera/reviews"><strong>Atera</strong></a><strong>:</strong> Lightweight with decent ticketing and KB features, seems more SMB-friendly.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/solarwinds-service-desk/reviews"><strong>SolarWinds Service Desk</strong></a><strong>: </strong>Covers all the essentials — automation, notifications, KB — though not quite as strong as the top-tier enterprise tools.</li>
<li>
<a class="a a--md" elv="true" href="https://www.g2.com/products/sysaid/reviews"><strong>SysAid</strong></a>: Consistently solid across automation, prioritization, and KB integration, making it a good mid-market fit.</li>
</ul><p class="elv-tracking-normal elv-text-default elv-font-figtree elv-text-base elv-leading-base elv-font-normal" elv="true">For those of you running IT support, which platform has actually made ticket management <em>easier</em> day-to-day, and not just look good in a feature grid? Any gotchas I should be aware of before picking one?</p>

&lt;p&gt;I’m also curious, for those of you who’ve used these tools, is automation really the game-changer in ticket management, or do most teams still end up relying on manual triage anyway? Feels like every platform claims to automate routing and prioritization, but I wonder how well it works in practice.&lt;/p&gt;
