FreeMILL is a free and easy way to get started with 3D CNC milling. It lets you create toolpaths where a cutting tool moves over your 3D design in parallel layers to shape your part. You can create both rough and finish cuts, run a full simulation to see how the material will be removed, and then export the G-code to your CNC machine. FreeMILL works with both RhinoCAM and VisualCAD/CAM. That means you can either use it as a plugin inside Rhinoceros, or run it on its own using VisualCAD, which is also free. It’s a great option if you’re just getting into CNC machining or want to try out CAM software before buying a full version.
