## Wwise Reviews
  ### 1. Wwise is my go-to for all things game audio

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gerald C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Its difficult to pick a favorite aspect of Wwise. Its all amazing. The integration is seem-less with Unity and Unreal. The way organizing Music may be my absolute favorite part. Being able to subtly transition from one section to the next is important with game music, and Wwise makes accomplishing this extremely simple with minimal code experience.

The fact that there are already components saves a ton of time in the game development process. AKAmbient, AkEvent, etc all save me SO much time. Being able to visually see the attenuation spheres when using the AKAmbient component is extremely useful too.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

This is only my least favorite thing about Wwise because I don't fully understand the concept personally. Understanding what parts of the file structure I NEED to include in my source control. This, however, forces me to dig into a topic that is unfamiliar to me and learn about it. This is difficult, but the pay off will be worth it.

The interface is also rather unappealing. I like it now that i have used it for a while, but for a newcomer I'm sure it can be intimidating and not as aesthetically pleasing as other audio solutions.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

I know the interface can be kind of bland! Stick with it. Dig in, learn, and make amazing audio. The game development process is not about you, but the player. Always remember that you are creating a world for the player lose themselves in. Just because the interface is not the prettiest thing ever does not mean that it is not the most powerful audio solution for game development. IT IS! You'll see. :)

The Wwise courses on Audiokinetic's website are extremely valuable.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wwise helps me with mixing after all the audio assets have been created. Pulling up the mixer and dialing in the sounds is super convenient and removes the going back and forth between unity and my DAW to get the sounds perfect.

It is also helping me solve attenuation problems. Im no programmer. I cannot type a bunch of randomness, make it work, AND somehow visualize what I typed. The Attenuation spheres are extremely helpful. I also really like the way reverb zones work.

All of this saves a ton of time. This keeps the business and game development process rolling along smoothly.

  ### 2. Complete and convenient middlesoftware for game audio.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Max R. | Sound Designer, Audio Programmer, Music Composer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Pros :
- the easy integration process through Unity and Unreal game engines.
- the possibility to program easy to highadvanced interactive audio in a fully standalone application.
- the user-friendly interface and interactive audio programming possibilities offered without needing any coding skills.
- the abbility to program very complex systems, whether gamer-based (interactions, footsteps, weapons, etc.) or environment-based (complex ambient systems, day-night cycles), using a variety of tools (containers, randomizers, switches and states, RTPC,...).
- the online support and documentation, very rich, helpful and up to date.
- free usage for non-commercial and academic projects, otherwise price adapted to the cost of production.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

- lack of support for certain contexts (indie game engines like game maker, godot, construct, no web GL support).
- lack of built-in granular tool (useful for some specific sound generating such as engines).

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

- This software is the perfect tool when you have someone dedicated to audio, as it allows this audio tech to work without being necessarily on the game engine. Consider having at least one person dedicated to audio-music implementation who can handle all the wwise part.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- I suceeded in creating fast a convincing interactive audio system without access to the game engine, and integrated it fast.
- The sonic experience is way more rich and resourceful than with most built-in sound engines.

  ### 3. True example of beautiful programming

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arya A. | Post-Production Audio Editor/Mixer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Very simple GUI, Randomization options, connectivity with various engines and perforce, all the music features. Beautiful debugger, easy game sound mixing

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Almost nothing! Would be nice if there was a native way to set your own hotkeys, and an option to extract multiple assets out of the same file could be nice too. This is purely fantasy but also a way for Wwise to warn you when you change a value that affects other bits of code. Another amazing feature would be for Wwise to allow for an "executable" audio file for music that is generated from scratch every time, that one could post on a site and so on!

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Read the manual!

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wwise helps me with some sound design and music based applications that would normally be possible through expensive plugins. Like creating randomized variations of samples, "particle" effects to create a wall of sound from one simple sound, and introducing generative random music.

  ### 4. Flexible and fully functional audio solution for interactive media

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Edward D. | Composer | Sound Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

The layout is very organised. The Events lists is a simple folder structure akin to a bus structure in a DAW. This software is made with traditional audio engineers in mind. It even has the potential to include well known plugins, and has partnership with the likes of Izotope and Krotos.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Although I am very familiar with the layout and structures, the GUI isn't as visually pleasing as most software in 2020. (Though this really doesn't matter too much!) In comparison with similar software FMOD, that has a more user friendly, DAW feel.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

As I said previously, this software has much of the same organisational concepts of a traditional DAW, with Bus's and effects plugins. So I would say sharpen up on at least 1 DAW before thinking about getting into interactive, non linear based audio solutions such as WWISE. WWISE is the leading software for interactive audio so it is a valuable skill to know if you wish to enter the industry.

I should also add that it is completely free to download and learn. Along with game engine you wish to couple this software with, that's is all the materials you will need to get started.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use WWISE with Unreal Engine. The fact I can connect WWISE RTPC's to any game parameter really opens up creative possibilities to play with dynamic, interactive audio for games.

  ### 5. Game Audio Programmer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jater X. | Freelance Soundtrack Composer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Wwise provides easy to use and easy to set up interfaces and hands-on tutorial projects to practice. The switch and state system, RTPC, and various other features make the connection between the audio engine and the game engine smooth and effortless. Interactive music systems eliminated most of the communication barriers between composers and programmers, make cool interactive audio ideas become quickly possible to test. The WAAPI introduced another layer of flexibility for programmers to customize the audio systems and expands their ideas.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

No fade in - fade out on sound sources and containers, only on events.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

I use Wwise to do game audio programming and create in-game audio systems. Wwise cleared up the needs of creating audio systems from scratch and make composers and sound designers easy to work with their audio assets and communicate with programmers. I do not have to create underlying systems every time when I jump on a project. With the functionality and toolbox provided by Wwise, the work efficiency is higher than ever before.

  ### 6. WWise review from a sound designer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Timothee R. | Motion Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

I love the fact that you can easily try out some sounds to create ambiences. I've had a lot of fun generating random infinite music loops. It's a great and powerful tool to test if all your sounds blend and the built-in tools are very useful.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

I saw the product change throughout the years and I must say that the only thing I've had trouble with and luckily had an audio programmer for is connecting it to Unity to see my changes at each push.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

If you're looking for a middleware to help you simplify your gaming without coding that it's the perfect tool!

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wwise is a great tool to try your audio environment, especially in-game pre-production. I wish I knew more about music because I've seen some incredible demos. Overall I would say that Wwise is a must-have for a big gaming studio as it really simplifies life for sound designers without having to code or to minimize this part of the process.

  ### 7. The all-in-one for game audio integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jimmy B. | Sound Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

The hierarchy window for master buses, sound fx, and music provides a tremendous amount of flexibility in organization, which in turn opens the doors to an incredibly vast array of integration options.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

The UI can be rather intimidating. At first opening up the program, baby steps were required to find my bearings, but the online educational materials provide a wonderful step by step introduction to many facets of Wwise, allowing me to comprehend and utilize what I needed.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’ve been able to fully implement original audio for games that have used my sounds to elevate the player experience. Wwise provides a way to fully realize the concepts in my head and place them successfully translate them into the game engine.

  ### 8. Powerful middleware for versatile audio implementation.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Santiago A. | Lead Sound Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Wwise is an incredible piece of software that will let you create complex audio behavior in videogames. With little practice you'll be able to create things that are just not possible without middleware. You can easily set up things like convolution reverb, variations, and other sophisticated parameters. It even has integrated synths that will let you create complex adaptive audio in game.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Wwise requires some level of comprehension to be able to take advantage of all the tools. This is no big problem as there is a lot of information on the internet that will help the user create incredible games.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Wwise is a powerful tool that will let you create the complex behaviors you're looking for in your production. Take some time to read the documentation and look for videos and information on the internet. That is enough to get you started with this incredible tool and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Wwise you can easily tune events and parameters. One feature I like are the synths used as wind generators, as you can create wind that adapts to a falling character and speed. Once you get the hang of it I also think it's better than other middleware software, as tools are very powerful and really let you get deep into your integration.

  ### 9. Wwise is an excellent tool to create interesting interactive game audio experiences

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin A. | Fulfillment Associate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Wwise is an essential tool for any sound designer. It allows you to easily alter your soundscape based on player interaction and game event, which leads to a truly immersive experience with much less effort. It is incredibly simple to edit your audio this way, especially if you use their free online courses.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

It can be a little complicated to integrate Wwise into your game engine, however there is lots of help and advice online and on their website if you run into any issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

If you have never used Wwise before have a look at their online lessons, found on their website. It is simple to follow and gives you the opportunity to put sound into your first game with ease.
It also helps if you have prior experience with a DAW, as many concepts and editing processes are the same.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wwise hands control over the audio experience back to the sound designers, over coders, allowing you to know exactly how your sounds will interact with each other in game. you still need to collaborate closely with coders to ensure the game runs and sounds as best it can, but Wwise allows sound designers to sculpt the audio experience they want before it is needed in game, saving time for both colleagues.

  ### 10. Professional and comfortable solution, very useful for game sound development.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Wwise provides easy to use and easy to set up interfaces and hands-on tutorial projects to practice. The switch and state system, RTPC, and various other features make the connection between the audio engine and the game engine smooth and effortless. Interactive music systems eliminated most of the communication barriers between composers and programmers, make cool interactive audio ideas become quickly possible to test. The WAAPI introduced another layer of flexibility for programmers to customize the audio systems and expands their ideas. Usability and functions, you could setup audio as you need, sides, balances, layering. I could make all manipulations with audio as I want. It helps me in my daily work with game audio.
Great solution for games audio engineering.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Interface a little bit difference that other DAWs, but it's for the first time. I want to find more tutorials in other languages, on Russian for example. Also no fade in - fade out on sound sources and containers, only on events.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Yes!!! Sure, very useful software. I think to use Wwise regularly in my work.
Know I just start to you that software, I use different DAWs for different options: ProTools for recording, mix and mastering; Adobe Audition for editing; iZotope RX for restoration etc. And now I wanna try Wwise for game audio development, I hope it will help me more that others. Also I could add vst and integrate it with other platforms, for example Unreal Engine.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can insert audio to game as I need, right side, right balance and volume. I didn't know how to set up sound in video game, and I only could send audio file to game developers and they had to insert audio by them self, but know I could make all manipulations with audio as I want and send it you developers. I made audio for games only for freelance. But I'm sure that professionals use Wwise in their daily work. Because you could provide audio for mobile, desktop, console and AR/VR platforms.

  ### 11. Second to none game audio implementation tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert M. | Sound Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

I love how intuitive random containers are - allowing for superb ease of implementation and great sounding non-static audio manipulation. The idea that you can add to the player's immersion so easily and successfully never fails to make me feel like I'm working with real progress being made at all times. In my previous experiences with middleware so often was I left feeling lost in the weeds and I've never really experienced this with Wwise other than when I was first opening it up. I also found Wwise's courses and the practice/learning games an absolute god-send when I first started learning it.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Being used to digital audio workstations and their standardised workflows, I found that switching over to Wwise was at first quite a roadblock with it requiring such a different way of thinking. Only after using Wwise's own tutorials/courses did it really being to make sense to me - I will say that once this hurdle was overcome I found Wwise highly intuitive as a sound-designer. One thing I will say is that editing scripts is something I still find difficult at times, though this is more to do with my lack of knowledge in code than anything else.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

If you've found yourself putting off learning a piece of middleware due it seeming daunting, I can promise that Wwise quickly and effectively put to rest any fear of a steep and prolonged learning curve to rest.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems Wwise has helped me solve come down more to the specifics of the type of program Wwise is. With it not being entirely code based, and with the Wwise interface being tailored towards audio professionals, I find that as a sound designer I'm put back in the hot seat with utmost power and control over the audio I'm implementing - I love that it effectively solves the need to have to translate highly audio specific terms and language to coders in order for them to implement my work.

  ### 12. Wwise, the pinnacle of AAA audio implementation toolsets, for both Indie and AAA teams.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan M. | Sound Designer / Composer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Wwise is a critical part of the workflow for many audio teams, sound designers and composers. It offers complete flexibility in the implementation of interactive audio, parameter changes and ad hoc audio tools. I really like the support and resources which Audiokinetic offer, though my favourite aspect is the ease of use and it's practicality when prototyping within Wwise itself. The ability to adjust any and all parameters within Wwise's tools results in lower bugs and better implementation, as you can tweak and perfect an audio event before it is even implemented into the game.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Often confusing and dull GUI/Workflow. UX design is often confusing, especially for the first time user and can result in people wanting to use other products which are much more user friendly when first booted up. Integration and communication with game engines, particularly proprietary; is often a little more difficult than it could be, although the aforementioned help, advice and support which the Audiokinetic team offer often irons out any difficulties with this process.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wwise offers much more in terms of features than native audio tools within an editor. It also offers a lot more control and cooperation when working in teams of any size. It also grants developers with further autonomy in a games production, which in practise, improves the workflow of an entire team. Wwise remains to be the last word in Audio middleware in video game development.

  ### 13. Extremely powerful tool for immersive sound and music

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yves M. | Music Composer and Sound Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

The different layouts adapted to tasks are quite useful. I like how Wwise treats sounds as instances requiring triggers, and the whole setting accomodates that. It is not DAW-like, which helps for adaptive media rather than static media. I love that for non-commercial use or for student projects, it is free, so it is possible to try it and get experience on it. I love pitch control and random containers in wwise, along with space control. Provides great immersiveness potential.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

There isn’t anything i really dislike, or at least i don’t have enough experience to say that some things just don’t work. Since the layout is not like a regular DAW, it does have a learning curve as the environment is foreign at first. But once that hurdle is passed, no issues really. The most useless feature to me would be the midi options because while a lot of music is done with virtual instruments, few today go for that 8-bit feel, but it may still be useful in some instances

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

If you are going for video game sound/music, this is an amazing tool for that because it focuses heavily on the adaptive nature of sound to different situations. There is a learning curve, sure, but once that hurdle is passed, the malleability of the program to different aspects of what needs to be achieved is eecond to none. The courses are free to watch, and extremely well explained, so this takes care of that.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is just much deeper than what unity or unreal engine can do on their own, so basically, everything in the implementation of sound in video games. I am still not working on big-time projects, as i am still new really. I found that it has the greatest potential for immersiveness i have come across. So many options to control space, the sound itself, the randomness of it, etc.

  ### 14. Audio/Video Syncing Essential

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nasser A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

As I need to sync some animation with sound effects sometimes before releasing a video artwork, wwise gets the thing done with the most simple/effective method. I really like the workflow that wwise software goes with, it really makes me lose the sense of time passing which makes the whole process fun.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

during a discussion with one of our entity employees, we both agreed about that the full grey color interface gives kind of a sad vibe, so I think if the colors of the interface changed in the next release, I will be the first one getting it.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am getting my video/audio projects synced and rendered together.

  ### 15. The standard in music implementation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** João L. | Music Composer for Film & Games, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

What I like best about Wwise is their beginner tutorial pdf handouts which helped me greatly to understand the software. Perfect for implementing music in video games the way you want it to sound

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

I feel this kind of software is still relatively new so the UI is still not as intuitive as a lot of different other kinds of softwares. But I’m looking forward to see the UI simplified to a point where a composer can have a very quick idea on how to use it without relying too much on the PDFs.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Take some time to go through the tutorials first.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

How to start/stop/transition to any track I want .

  ### 16. Right Tool for the Job

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael H. | Audio Engineer , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Easy program to get trained on and be efficient with in no time. Whichever Game Development program you decide to use Wwise will implement with it perfectly. I'm my opinion it's the best tool for getting audio into your game.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

The biggest downfall of Wwise I would say is the lack of an Autosave feature. For the most part I do remember to save regularly but there has been a time or two that I have lost some progress with no way to retrieve what was lost.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Learn coding, it'll help you a good deal when it comes to working with a while team

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps audio team be self reliant. It does require some coding knowledge but nothing to crazy to be able to operate within their roll.

  ### 17. Take everything for paying nothing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam A. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

I like how it provides everything I need during my music production process or even my free time while playing video games at a point where I don't pay a dollar!

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

Only the user interface colors I think they could be more fun.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it as my main sound equalizer tool as per it gives me the exact result I need for my product.

  ### 18. WWise audio interaction

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

not specifically aimed at musicians . more at the games.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

its the no 1 choice to go to. the team winner. obvious option. hope it keeps ahead of the competition

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

enabling the integration of audio to games smoothly allowing both the creativity that they deserve.

wwise is only one of 2 platforms that do this.. so the benefits are being able to integrate audio to video games smoothly

  ### 19. Essential for gamers to stream!

**Reviewed by:** Rashad C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

I like how Wwise makes it better to solve sound latency which isn't available on other platforms, so it makes me completely satisfied with the quality it provides me.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

it's kinda complicated to change some options, but overall I still can recommend it to relatives.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Wwise, Indeed.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I feel more comfortable using Wwise while gaming as per it organizes the whole process.

I am creating all the original sound effects we need for all our projects.

  ### 22. Industry standard professional softwares for all your audio visual needs.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Varun S. | Audio Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

  ### 35. The best audio integration software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Evan K. | Sound Designer & Mix Engineer, Computer Games, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2016

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

Wwise is a middleware software, which means that it is used to integrate something into something else. It is used mainly to integrate and mix sound effects, music and voice acting into the game engine you are working on. Its workflow is very convenient and has all the tools needed to produce a full fledged video game, since all the major developers use it anyway.

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

There is not much I could say I dislike about Wwise. The only downside I could find is that for a beginner it might be a bit complicated to carry out the integration to the engine. You will need to adjust all the triggers and be careful of the naming of all the aspects of the game process. But that would not really be a downside as this is the way a game production works.

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Wwise as a concept is a problem solver by nature. Its purpose is to save you the hustle of coding your sound into any given engine and instead used a regular user interface to carry out all the needed tasks. I t allows much freedom to the user and helps audio engineers and sound designer focus on the "sound" aspect of the production, letting the coders do the integration part for you.

  ### 36. Very Nice interface.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2016

**What do you like best about Wwise?**

I use this solely for file conversion and it helps a lot with reducing the size of audio files while maintaining the quality. The interface is really nice and easy to use, and audio mixing with this software is great

**What do you dislike about Wwise?**

It feels in a way like am using FL studio, the interface is very alike.

**Recommendations to others considering Wwise:**

Great for sound mixing and file conversion

**What problems is Wwise solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audio mixing
