The upside of using TestOut and their products are that the support system is prompt. They listen and provide an convenient learning system that we as instructors are able to utilize online or in the classroom. Our students are able to gain the most up to date skills needed to succeed in their the chosen field.

On top of that, instructors are encouraged to enhance their own skills and increase their own knowledge base using the products that TestOut provides. TestOut offers a large variety of classes to choose from. I have been using TestOut in excess of 10 years and have always been successful without any major issues. I went into the 20-21 school year teaching a class that I have never taught before. I also had to find a curriculum to go with the course. I looked at multiple courses but chose TestOut IT Fundamentals Pro and I am so glad I did. The foundation for the course is already done, pacing is complete and section quizzes. TestOut allows me to focus more on assessment data and planning vs figuring out what to teach. I dislike the fact that you cannot "lock" sections until you are ready to use them. If my students wanted to they could technically go backward and redo tests that would change their grade in TestOut, they could also work forward if they wanted to. I've submitted to my professor 3x now screenshots demonstrating the labs that just are not recording my (correct) entries which should complete the lab. Step by Step, I show the instructions, and my completing the task. At the end, labsim doesn't record/ cannot "see"/ can't tell that I've done what is asked.

Also, the videos, which I presume are supposed to replace in class (actual) learning and education are well produced, and I like the presenters, but really fall short of what I imagine will be needed in an actual career. they do not prepare the student in a way that comes near to my own experience with a live human instructor. I like that the skills labs allow the students to 'skip' training if they know how to do the task but provides training (hints, etc.) if needed. I also like that it gives the tasks that students used help with to the students again so they have to actually pay attention to the help. I would prefer that the Challenge and Applied Labs would allow students to stop and pick up where they left off. I also would prefer if the custom exams had more simulations to choose from for each module or if there was a task list for each module instead of complete simulations. The learning system is very well structured, using a mixture of several different teaching methods. From videos, recorded screen videos, virtual laboratories and much more. It accompanies the learning process from the basics to the deepening, self-study and assessments. The multiplechoice tests are well structured and can be created quickly. I like that it gives you the objectives for each chapter that corresponds with the actual exam certification objectives. You can also redo labs and quizzes to help clarify wrong or missed answers. I also liked that there are certification exam practice test at the very end of the chapter. They will really help you pass the real life certification exam. It can be kind of boring. Watching the lectures is slightly redundant. The labs are cool, but become redundant after while. What I find the most helpful about TestOut is the one on one customer service I receive. From ordering and setting up licenses, to technical assistance with their LabSim software; TestOut always answers the call. I also like how TestOut updates their certification software every year, ensuring my students are learning the most current and relevant skills and knowledge required in the industry. TestOut is a must for anyone seeking a platform that will prepare them for success in taking information technology certifications like CompTIA A+, Net + and Sec +. What I dislike about TestOut is that it is currently not on our states list of certifications that can be reimbursed by Perkins V. We need more educators in Texas advocating to have TestOut added. Currently in Texas, CompTIA is the only recognized certifications for the classes I teach.
