Automatic billing feature saves me a lot of time. Mail merge works great. The tech support is outstanding and they are responsive. They have a lot of training. **What do you dislike about Smokeball?** There's a big learning curve for billing. I wish the software had full accounting. I was told calendar integration with Outlook doesn't work currenlty. Migration from our old software wasn't that great and is taking much longer than anticipated with some issues. The software isn't perfect, but I'm not sure any legal software is. Sometimes, the AI billing is too aggressive. It's relatively new software, so I'm sure it will improve over time. **What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?** Auto billing is nice. It's a very thorough software. I love the way the Smokeball features interact and the regular updates to make Smokeball better. I ahve confidence in the security and the team has been great when you need help. **What do you dislike about Smokeball?** There are some common hot-keys - such as backing out of a sub-folder using the DEL key - which would make navigation of Smokeball files easier and quicker. I'm unsure how well files are backed up and for how long, so I don't know to what extent I need to preserve client files on my own server,or in hard-copy. **What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?** Smokeball makes it easy to see my open matters and move between them. Smokeball is very helpful is submitting my billing and keeping up-to-date with it. When opening a new pdf not sent through email, I must save it to my computer first. I can change billable to nonbillable in less than a second. We love the built-in state-specific court forms that eliminate the need to purchase additional state form repositories that are extremely expensive. Payments are automatically sent to Ledgers, despite attempting to invoice them and reroute them in a more organized fashion. Smokeball tracks the time you spend on documents, and it does so automatically. During my first months using Smokeball, my billable hours increased by over 50%, while my work hours remained the same. The difference was all those little interrupts to check a document, revise a document, read a doument, or take a phone call. Smokeball integrates with RingCentral, and automatically tracks the time of a call and create a time entry in the right matter. **What do you dislike about Smokeball?** Smokeball billing is not as strong a feature as the components. However, Smokeball has been making improvements to billing regularly. **Recommendations to others considering Smokeball:** Examine the time required to make manual time entries, plus the time spent weekly or monthly reviewing and editing those time records. With smokeball, the only time you have to make time entries is when you are working outside of the program, e.g., time spent researching issues. Almost all of that time becomes available to produce more billable hours. **What problems is Smokeball solving and how is that benefiting you?** Document automation is not a new feature, and programs like HotDocs have been around for many years. I had been using HotDocs for at least six years, but Smokeball's documents use all the information loaded in the case management system. If you are familiar with HotDocs or other document automation packages, Smokeball's document automation is easy to learn. And you never have to reenter information that is part of the case management system. ### 34. The files also get overrun with emails, because it is so easy to save emails to matters. I do not like many of the document templates, as they are not formatted to my very precise specifications, and so far I have not had time to go back to Smokeball with requested changes. **Recommendations to others considering Smokeball:** Ask your sales representative to allow you to do a test drive. Understand that Smokeball may not play well with older computer equipment, so upgrading your computers may be necessary. Everyone has easy access to case information. The time tracker has helped us both bill clients and monitor employee productivity.
